7d1d4407f5 net80211/ifconfig: print hardware device name for wlan interfaces
Add IEEE80211_IOC_IC_NAME to query the ic_name field and in ifconfig
to print the parent interface again. This functionality was lost
around r287197. It helps in case of multiple wlan interfaces and
multiple underlying hardware devices to keep track which wlan
interface belongs to which physical device.

e5539fb618 libifconfig: Add function to get bridge status
The new function operates similarly to ifconfig_lagg_get_lagg_status and
likewise is accompanied by a function to free the bridge status data structure.

I have included in this patch the relocation of some strings describing STP
parameters and the PV2ID macro from ifconfig into net/if_bridgevar.h as they
are useful for consumers of libifconfig.

8e725dacd2 ifconfig(8): make it possible to filter output by interface group.
Now options -g/-G allow to select/unselect interfaces by groups
in the "ifconfig -a" output just like already existing -d/-u.

Examples:

to exclude loopback from the list: ifconfig -a -G lo
to show vlan interfaces only: ifconfig -a -g vlan
to show tap interfaces that are up: ifconfig -aug tap

Arguments to -g/-G may be shell patterns and both may be specified.
Later options -g/-G override previous ones.

b2e60773c6 Add kernel-side support for in-kernel TLS.
KTLS adds support for in-kernel framing and encryption of Transport
Layer Security (1.0-1.2) data on TCP sockets. KTLS only supports
offload of TLS for transmitted data. Key negotation must still be
performed in userland. Once completed, transmit session keys for a
connection are provided to the kernel via a new TCP_TXTLS_ENABLE
socket option. All subsequent data transmitted on the socket is
placed into TLS frames and encrypted using the supplied keys.

Any data written to a KTLS-enabled socket via write(2), aio_write(2),
or sendfile(2) is assumed to be application data and is encoded in TLS
frames with an application data type. Individual records can be sent
with a custom type (e.g. handshake messages) via sendmsg(2) with a new
control message (TLS_SET_RECORD_TYPE) specifying the record type.

At present, rekeying is not supported though the in-kernel framework
should support rekeying.

KTLS makes use of the recently added unmapped mbufs to store TLS
frames in the socket buffer. Each TLS frame is described by a single
ext_pgs mbuf. The ext_pgs structure contains the header of the TLS
record (and trailer for encrypted records) as well as references to
the associated TLS session.

KTLS supports two primary methods of encrypting TLS frames: software
TLS and ifnet TLS.

Software TLS marks mbufs holding socket data as not ready via
M_NOTREADY similar to sendfile(2) when TLS framing information is
added to an unmapped mbuf in ktls_frame(). ktls_enqueue() is then
called to schedule TLS frames for encryption. In the case of
sendfile_iodone() calls ktls_enqueue() instead of pru_ready() leaving
the mbufs marked M_NOTREADY until encryption is completed. For other
writes (vn_sendfile when pages are available, write(2), etc.), the
PRUS_NOTREADY is set when invoking pru_send() along with invoking
ktls_enqueue().

A pool of worker threads (the "KTLS" kernel process) encrypts TLS
frames queued via ktls_enqueue(). Each TLS frame is temporarily
mapped using the direct map and passed to a software encryption
backend to perform the actual encryption.

(Note: The use of PHYS_TO_DMAP could be replaced with sf_bufs if
someone wished to make this work on architectures without a direct
map.)

KTLS supports pluggable software encryption backends. Internally,
Netflix uses proprietary pure-software backends. This commit includes
a simple backend in a new ktls_ocf.ko module that uses the kernel's
OpenCrypto framework to provide AES-GCM encryption of TLS frames. As
a result, software TLS is now a bit of a misnomer as it can make use
of hardware crypto accelerators.

Once software encryption has finished, the TLS frame mbufs are marked
ready via pru_ready(). At this point, the encrypted data appears as
regular payload to the TCP stack stored in unmapped mbufs.

ifnet TLS permits a NIC to offload the TLS encryption and TCP
segmentation. In this mode, a new send tag type (IF_SND_TAG_TYPE_TLS)
is allocated on the interface a socket is routed over and associated
with a TLS session. TLS records for a TLS session using ifnet TLS are
not marked M_NOTREADY but are passed down the stack unencrypted. The
ip_output_send() and ip6_output_send() helper functions that apply
send tags to outbound IP packets verify that the send tag of the TLS
record matches the outbound interface. If so, the packet is tagged
with the TLS send tag and sent to the interface. The NIC device
driver must recognize packets with the TLS send tag and schedule them
for TLS encryption and TCP segmentation. If the the outbound
interface does not match the interface in the TLS send tag, the packet
is dropped. In addition, a task is scheduled to refresh the TLS send
tag for the TLS session. If a new TLS send tag cannot be allocated,
the connection is dropped. If a new TLS send tag is allocated,
however, subsequent packets will be tagged with the correct TLS send
tag. (This latter case has been tested by configuring both ports of a
Chelsio T6 in a lagg and failing over from one port to another. As
the connections migrated to the new port, new TLS send tags were
allocated for the new port and connections resumed without being
dropped.)

ifnet TLS can be enabled and disabled on supported network interfaces
via new '[-]txtls[46]' options to ifconfig(8). ifnet TLS is supported
across both vlan devices and lagg interfaces using failover, lacp with
flowid enabled, or lacp with flowid enabled.

Applications may request the current KTLS mode of a connection via a
new TCP_TXTLS_MODE socket option. They can also use this socket
option to toggle between software and ifnet TLS modes.

In addition, a testing tool is available in tools/tools/switch_tls.
This is modeled on tcpdrop and uses similar syntax. However, instead
of dropping connections, -s is used to force KTLS connections to
switch to software TLS and -i is used to switch to ifnet TLS.

Various sysctls and counters are available under the kern.ipc.tls
sysctl node. The kern.ipc.tls.enable node must be set to true to
enable KTLS (it is off by default). The use of unmapped mbufs must
also be enabled via kern.ipc.mb_use_ext_pgs to enable KTLS.

KTLS is enabled via the KERN_TLS kernel option.

This patch is the culmination of years of work by several folks
including Scott Long and Randall Stewart for the original design and
implementation; Drew Gallatin for several optimizations including the
use of ext_pgs mbufs, the M_NOTREADY mechanism for TLS records
awaiting software encryption, and pluggable software crypto backends;
and John Baldwin for modifications to support hardware TLS offload.

82334850ea Add an external mbuf buffer type that holds multiple unmapped pages.
Unmapped mbufs allow sendfile to carry multiple pages of data in a
single mbuf, without mapping those pages. It is a requirement for
Netflix's in-kernel TLS, and provides a 5-10% CPU savings on heavy web
serving workloads when used by sendfile, due to effectively
compressing socket buffers by an order of magnitude, and hence
reducing cache misses.

For this new external mbuf buffer type (EXT_PGS), the ext_buf pointer
now points to a struct mbuf_ext_pgs structure instead of a data
buffer. This structure contains an array of physical addresses (this
reduces cache misses compared to an earlier version that stored an
array of vm_page_t pointers). It also stores additional fields needed
for in-kernel TLS such as the TLS header and trailer data that are
currently unused. To more easily detect these mbufs, the M_NOMAP flag
is set in m_flags in addition to M_EXT.

Various functions like m_copydata() have been updated to safely access
packet contents (using uiomove_fromphys()), to make things like BPF
safe.

NIC drivers advertise support for unmapped mbufs on transmit via a new
IFCAP_NOMAP capability. This capability can be toggled via the new
'nomap' and '-nomap' ifconfig(8) commands. For NIC drivers that only
transmit packet contents via DMA and use bus_dma, adding the
capability to if_capabilities and if_capenable should be all that is
required.

If a NIC does not support unmapped mbufs, they are converted to a
chain of mapped mbufs (using sf_bufs to provide the mapping) in
ip_output or ip6_output. If an unmapped mbuf requires software
checksums, it is also converted to a chain of mapped mbufs before
computing the checksum.

6a68e95de8 ifconfig(8): Add kld mappings for ipsec/enc
Additionally, providing mappings makes the comparison for already loaded
modules a little more strict. This should have been done at initial
introduction, but there was no real reason- however, it proves necessary for
enc which has a standard enc -> if_enc mapping but there also exists an
'enc' module that's actually CAM. The mapping lets us unambiguously
determine the correct module.

251a32b5b2 tun/tap: merge and rename to tuntap
tun(4) and tap(4) share the same general management interface and have a lot
in common. Bugs exist in tap(4) that have been fixed in tun(4), and
vice-versa. Let's reduce the maintenance requirements by merging them
together and using flags to differentiate between the three interface types
(tun, tap, vmnet).

This fixes a couple of tap(4)/vmnet(4) issues right out of the gate:
- tap devices may no longer be destroyed while they're open [0]
- VIMAGE issues already addressed in tun by kp

[0] emaste had removed an easy-panic-button in r240938 due to devdrn
blocking. A naive glance over this leads me to believe that this isn't quite
complete -- destroy_devl will only block while executing d_* functions, but
doesn't block the device from being destroyed while a process has it open.
The latter is the intent of the condvar in tun, so this is "fixed" (for
certain definitions of the word -- it wasn't really broken in tap, it just
wasn't quite ideal).

ifconfig(8) also grew the ability to map an interface name to a kld, so
that `ifconfig {tun,tap}0` can continue to autoload the correct module, and
`ifconfig vmnet0 create` will now autoload the correct module. This is a
low overhead addition.

(MFC commentary)

This may get MFC'd if many bugs in tun(4)/tap(4) are discovered after this,
and how critical they are. Changes after this are likely easily MFC'd
without taking this merge, but the merge will be easier.

I have no plans to do this MFC as of now.

aee793eec9 Add GRE-in-UDP encapsulation support as defined in RFC8086.
This GRE-in-UDP encapsulation allows the UDP source port field to be
used as an entropy field for load-balancing of GRE traffic in transit
networks. Also most of multiqueue network cards are able distribute
incoming UDP datagrams to different NIC queues, while very little are
able do this for GRE packets.

When an administrator enables UDP encapsulation with command
`ifconfig gre0 udpencap`, the driver creates kernel socket, that binds
to tunnel source address and after udp_set_kernel_tunneling() starts
receiving of all UDP packets destined to 4754 port. Each kernel socket
maintains list of tunnels with different destination addresses. Thus
when several tunnels use the same source address, they all handled by
single socket. The IP[V6]_BINDANY socket option is used to be able bind
socket to source address even if it is not yet available in the system.
This may happen on system boot, when gre(4) interface is created before
source address become available. The encapsulation and sending of packets
is done directly from gre(4) into ip[6]_output() without using sockets.

This change defines the RA "6" (IPv6-Only) flag which routers
may advertise, kernel logic to check if all routers on a link
have the flag set and accordingly update a per-interface flag.

If all routers agree that it is an IPv6-only link, ether_output_frame(),
based on the interface flag, will filter out all ETHERTYPE_IP/ARP
frames, drop them, and return EAFNOSUPPORT to upper layers.

The change also updates ndp to show the "6" flag, ifconfig to
display the IPV6_ONLY nd6 flag if set, and rtadvd to allow
announcing the flag.

Further changes to tcpdump (contrib code) are availble and will
be upstreamed.

Tested the code (slightly earlier version) with 2 FreeBSD
IPv6 routers, a FreeBSD laptop on ethernet as well as wifi,
and with Win10 and OSX clients (which did not fall over with
the "6" flag set but not understood).

We may also want to (a) implement and RX filter, and (b) over
time enahnce user space to, say, stop dhclient from running
when the interface flag is set. Also we might want to start
IPv6 before IPv4 in the future.

All the code is hidden under the EXPERIMENTAL option and not
compiled by default as the draft is a work-in-progress and
we cannot rely on the fact that IANA will assign the bits
as requested by the draft and hence they may change.

Dear 6man, you have running code.

5c88595e07 Do not allow use create keyword as hostname when ifconfig(8) is invoked
for already existing interface.

It appeared, that ifconfig(8) assumes `create` keyword as hostname and
tries to resolve it, when `ifconfig ifname create` invoked for already
existing interface. This can produce some unexpected results, when hostname
resolving has successfully happened. This patch adds check for such case.
When an interface is already exists, and create is only one argument,
return error message. But when there are some other arguments, just remove
create keyword from the arguments list.

af74661403 ifconfig(8): Attempt to render non-printable sequences w/ UTF-8 Environment
Currently ifconfig(8) only prints the hex representation of ssid names
with non-ASCII characters. Many modern terminals are able to properly render
non-ASCII characters. This change checks if the terminal charmap is UTF-8,
and if so, will render the characters, rather than the hex value.

This behavior is circumvented by running ifconfig(8) in a non-UTF8 locale;
e.g. C or POSIX.

It was pointed out by kp@ during the review that APs have the option to
broadcast whether their SSIDs may be interpreted as UTF-8. Ideally, we would
honor this and only attempt this behavior if it's so-broadcasted by the AP.

However, a sample survey showed that hostapd will advertise this if
indicated in config but it doesn't seem to be so common in the AP market, so
this would be effectively useless as we'll rarely know if the SSID should be
renderable as UTF-8.

Despite this, it was decided to be OK with this anyways- there's a
straightforward path to doing it the right way based on advertisement by AP
if we need to go that route, and one can revert to old behavior easily
enough at runtime if we get it wrong.

When we exit with an error during lagg creation, a single

- Preserve non-EEXISTS errors for exit status from SIOCSLAGGPORT,

3cf8254f1e Add a place for a driver to report rx timestamps in nanoseconds from
boot for the received packets.

The rcv_tstmp field overlaps the place of Ln header length indicators,
not used by received packets. The basic pkthdr rearrangement change
in sys/mbuf.h was provided by gallatin.

There are two accompanying M_ flags: M_TSTMP means that there is the
timestamp (and it was generated by hardware).

Another flag M_TSTMP_HPREC indicates that the timestamp is
high-precision. Practically M_TSTMP_HPREC means that hardware
provided additional precision comparing with the stamps when the flag
is not set. E.g., for ConnectX all packets are stamped by hardware
when PCIe transaction to write out the completion descriptor is
performed, but PTP packet are stamped on port. For Intel cards, when
PTP assist is enabled, only PTP packets are stamped in the limited
number of registers, so if Intel cards ever start support this
mechanism, they would always set M_TSTMP | M_TSTMP_HPREC if hardware
timestamp is present for the given packet.

Add IFCAP_HWRXTSTMP interface capability to indicate the support for
hardware rx timestamping, and ifconfig(8) command to toggle it.

The MAC address reported by `ifconfig ${nic} ether' does not always match

particular, NICs which are components of a lagg(4) interface all report the

When attaching, the NIC driver passes the MAC address it read from the
hardware as an argument to ether_ifattach(). Keep a second copy of it, and
create ioctl(SIOCGHWADDR) to return it. Teach `ifconfig' to report it along

fcf596178b Merge projects/ipsec into head/.
Small summary
 -------------

o Almost all IPsec releated code was moved into sys/netipsec.
o New kernel modules added: ipsec.ko and tcpmd5.ko. New kernel
option IPSEC_SUPPORT added. It enables support for loading
and unloading of ipsec.ko and tcpmd5.ko kernel modules.
o IPSEC_NAT_T option was removed. Now NAT-T support is enabled by
  default. The UDP_ENCAP_ESPINUDP_NON_IKE encapsulation type
support was removed. Added TCP/UDP checksum handling for
inbound packets that were decapsulated by transport mode SAs.
setkey(8) modified to show run-time NAT-T configuration of SA.
o New network pseudo interface if_ipsec(4) added. For now it is
build as part of ipsec.ko module (or with IPSEC kernel).
It implements IPsec virtual tunnels to create route-based VPNs.
o The network stack now invokes IPsec functions using special
methods. The only one header file <netipsec/ipsec_support.h>
should be included to declare all the needed things to work
  with IPsec.
o All IPsec protocols handlers (ESP/AH/IPCOMP protosw) were removed.
Now these protocols are handled directly via IPsec methods.
o TCP_SIGNATURE support was reworked to be more close to RFC.
o PF_KEY SADB was reworked:
  - now all security associations stored in the single SPI namespace,
and all SAs MUST have unique SPI.
  - several hash tables added to speed up lookups in SADB.
  - SADB now uses rmlock to protect access, and concurrent threads
can do SA lookups in the same time.
  - many PF_KEY message handlers were reworked to reflect changes
    in SADB.
  - SADB_UPDATE message was extended to support new PF_KEY headers:
    SADB_X_EXT_NEW_ADDRESS_SRC and SADB_X_EXT_NEW_ADDRESS_DST. They
can be used by IKE daemon to change SA addresses.
o ipsecrequest and secpolicy structures were cardinally changed to
avoid locking protection for ipsecrequest. Now we support
only limited number (4) of bundled SAs, but they are supported
  for both INET and INET6.
o INPCB security policy cache was introduced. Each PCB now caches
used security policies to avoid SP lookup for each packet.
o For inbound security policies added the mode, when the kernel does
check for full history of applied IPsec transforms.
o References counting rules for security policies and security
associations were changed. The proper SA locking added into xform
  code.
o xform code was also changed. Now it is possible to unregister xforms.
tdb_xxx structures were changed and renamed to reflect changes in
SADB/SPDB, and changed rules for locking and refcounting.

- Add support to ifconfig to view, set and clear the IFCAP_TXRTLMT
flag, which tells if a network driver supports rate limiting or not.

- This patch also adds support for rate limiting through VLAN and LAGG
intermediate network devices.

- How rate limiting works:

1) The userspace application calls setsockopt() after accepting or
making a new connection to set the rate which is then stored in the
socket structure in the kernel. Later on when packets are transmitted
a check is made in the transmit path for rate changes. A rate change
implies a non-blocking ifp->if_snd_tag_alloc() call will be made to the
destination network interface, which then sets up a custom sendqueue
with the given rate limitation parameter. A "struct m_snd_tag" pointer is
returned which serves as a "snd_tag" hint in the m_pkthdr for the
subsequently transmitted mbufs.

2) When the network driver sees the "m->m_pkthdr.snd_tag" different
from NULL, it will move the packets into a designated rate limited sendqueue
given by the snd_tag pointer. It is up to the individual drivers how the rate
limited traffic will be rate limited.

3) Route changes are detected by the NIC drivers in the ifp->if_transmit()
routine when the ifnet pointer in the incoming snd_tag mismatches the
one of the network interface. The network adapter frees the mbuf and
returns EAGAIN which causes the ip_output() to release and clear the send
tag. Upon next ip_output() a new "snd_tag" will be tried allocated.

4) When the PCB is detached the custom sendqueue will be released by a
non-blocking ifp->if_snd_tag_free() call to the currently bound network
interface.

e9bb7f9aa1 [ifconfig] add initial VHT (802.11ac) configuration and channel support to ifconfig.
This is very preliminary and mostly enough for me (with other patches)
to work on VHT support.

It adds:

* VHT20, VHT40 and VHT80 regulatory/band awareness
* VHT20, VHT40 and VHT80 channel configuration / population
* Parses vht channel specifications (eg ifconfig wlan0 create wlandev athp0 wlanmode monitor channel 36:vht/80)
* Configuration of VHT, VHT40, VHT80, VHT80+80, VHT160 channel
  width (IEEE80211_FVHT_VHT* flags in net80211)

TODO:

* No VHT80+80 or VHT160 channels yet - I don't yet have hardware, and I'm
not yet sure how to support/populate VHT80+80 channels.
* No, I won't update the manpage until this is "more done", lest someone
tries using vht and gets upset with me.
* No, I won't commit the regulatory database I'm testing with, so you'll
just end up with no VHT channels ever populated. Which is good, as there
isn't an 11ac driver in-tree yet to try it with.

b628bdccce ifconfig: set by default FCC regulatory domain for wireless interfaces.
Change default regulatory domain from DEBUG (no limitations;
exposes all device channels) to FCC; as a result, newly created wireless
interface with default settings will have less chances to violate
country-specific regulations.

This change will not affect drivers with pre-initialized regdomain
structure (currentry ath(4) and mwl(4)); in that case, the default
channel list must correspond to the default regdomain / country setting.

You can switch to another regdomain / country via corresponding
ifconfig(8) options; the driver must implement ic_getradiocaps()
method to restore full channel list.

Full country / regdomain list may be obtained via
'ifconfig <iface> list countries' command.

Example: change country to Germany:
ifconfig wlan0 down	# all wlans on the device must be down
ifconfig wlan0 country DE
ifconfig wlan0 up
# wpa_supplicant(8), dhclient(8) etc

At the creation time:
ifconfig wlan0 create wlandev wpi0 country DE

To make changes permanent add the following line to the rc.conf(5):
create_args_wlan0="country DE"

430f7286a5 Merge ^/user/ngie/release-pkg-fix-tests to unbreak how test files are installed
after r298107

Summary of changes:

- Replace all instances of FILES/TESTS with ${PACKAGE}FILES. This ensures that
namespacing is kept with FILES appropriately, and that this shouldn't need
to be repeated if the namespace changes -- only the definition of PACKAGE
  needs to be changed
- Allow PACKAGE to be overridden by callers instead of forcing it to always be
`tests`. In the event we get to the point where things can be split up
enough in the base system, it would make more sense to group the tests
with the blocks they're a part of, e.g. byacc with byacc-tests, etc
- Remove PACKAGE definitions where possible, i.e. where FILES wasn't used
  previously.
- Remove unnecessary TESTSPACKAGE definitions; this has been elided into
  bsd.tests.mk
- Remove unnecessary BINDIRs used previously with ${PACKAGE}FILES;
${PACKAGE}FILESDIR is now automatically defined in bsd.test.mk.
- Fix installation of files under data/ subdirectories in lib/libc/tests/hash
  and lib/libc/tests/net/getaddrinfo
- Remove unnecessary .include <bsd.own.mk>s (some opportunistic cleanup)

Document the proposed changes in share/examples/tests/tests/... via examples
so it's clear that ${PACKAGES}FILES is the suggested way forward in terms of
replacing FILES. share/mk/bsd.README didn't seem like the appropriate method
of communicating that info.

This is not properly respecting WITHOUT or ARCH dependencies in target/.
Doing so requires a massive effort to rework targets/ to do so. A
better approach will be to either include the SUBDIR Makefiles directly

the benefit of having a userland/lib, userland/libexec, etc, though and
results in a massive package. The current implementation of targets/ is
very unmaintainable.

ccfb965433 Add META_MODE support.
Off by default, build behaves normally.
WITH_META_MODE we get auto objdir creation, the ability to
start build from anywhere in the tree.

Still need to add real targets under targets/ to build packages.

c1b4f79dfa Add an ability accept encapsulated packets from different sources by one
gif(4) interface. Add new option "ignore_source" for gif(4) interface.
When it is enabled, gif's encapcheck function requires match only for
packet's destination address.

eccfe69a5c Add new socket ioctls SIOC[SG]TUNFIB to set FIB number of encapsulated
packets on tunnel interfaces. Add support of these ioctls to gre(4),
gif(4) and me(4) interfaces. For incoming packets M_SETFIB() should use
if_fib value from ifnet structure, use proper value in gre(4) and me(4).

59333867ff - Remove ND6_IFF_IGNORELOOP. This functionality was useless in practice
because a link where looped back NS messages are permanently observed
does not work with either NDP or ARP for IPv4.

- draft-ietf-6man-enhanced-dad is now RFC 7527.

eb7e25b22f ifmedia changes:
- Extend the number of available subtypes for Ethernet media by using some
of the ifmedia word's option bits to help denote subtypes. As a result, the
number of possible Ethernet subtype values increases from 31 to 511.

- Use some of those new values to define new media types.

- lacp_compose_key() recgonizes the new Ethernet media types added.
(Change made as required by a comment in if_media.h)

- New ioctl, SIOGIFXMEDIA, to handle getting the new extended media types.
SIOCGIFMEDIA is retained for backwards compatibility.

- Changes to ifconfig to allow it to handle the new extended media types.
