85e4c389d1 Implement LIBADD
LIBADD will automatically set DPADD and LDADD when needed including their
dependencies, LIBADD automatically handles private and internal libs so that
the end user Makefile does not have to care about it.

This allows to reduce overlinking on the base system leaving the framework get
the dependencies properly.

It also allows to built components binaries statically.

To use it:

Replace:
DPADD=	${LIBARCHIVE} ${LIBSSL}
LDADD=	-larchive -lssl

by:
LIBADD=	archive ssl

14d4e1e250 Drop mention of ISA cards. Note that I have no idea what to cull from the
supported hardware list. Judging by the PCI driver attachment, dpt_pci.c
only supports a single adapter rather than the various PCI adapters listed.
The list of EISA adapters listed somewhat overlaps with the device IDs in
dpt_eisa.c. It's not clear which devices are ISA-only devices.

670e8b3b8c Kill custom in_matroute() radix mathing function removing one rte mutex lock.
Initially in_matrote() in_clsroute() in their current state was introduced by
r4105 20 years ago. Instead of deleting inactive routes immediately, we kept them
in route table, setting RTPRF_OURS flag and some expire time. After that, either
GC came or RTPRF_OURS got removed on first-packet. It was a good solution
in that days (and probably another decade after that) to keep TCP metrics.
However, after moving metrics to TCP hostcache in r122922, most of in_rmx
functionality became unused. It might had been used for flushing icmp-originated
routes before rte mutexes/refcounting, but I'm not sure about that.

So it looks like this is nearly impossible to make GC do its work nowadays:

in_rtkill() ignores non-RTPRF_OURS routes.
route can only become RTPRF_OURS after dropping last reference via rtfree()
which calls in_clsroute(), which, it turn, ignores UP and non-RTF_DYNAMIC routes.

Dynamic routes can still be installed via received redirect, but they
have default lifetime (no specific rt_expire) and no one has another trie walker
to call RTFREE() on them.

So, the changelist:
* remove custom rnh_match / rnh_close matching function.
* remove all GC functions
* partially revert r256695 (proto3 is no more used inside kernel,
  it is not possible to use rt_expire from user point of view, proto3 support
  is not complete)
* Finish r241884 (similar to this commit) and remove remaining IPv6 parts

f325335caf Overhaul if_gre(4).
Split it into two modules: if_gre(4) for GRE encapsulation and
if_me(4) for minimal encapsulation within IP.

gre(4) changes:
* convert to if_transmit;
* rework locking: protect access to softc with rmlock,
  protect from concurrent ioctls with sx lock;
* correct interface accounting for outgoing datagramms (count only payload size);
* implement generic support for using IPv6 as delivery header;
* make implementation conform to the RFC 2784 and partially to RFC 2890;
* add support for GRE checksums - calculate for outgoing datagramms and check
  for inconming datagramms;
* add support for sending sequence number in GRE header;
* remove support of cached routes. This fixes problem, when gre(4) doesn't
  work at system startup. But this also removes support for having tunnels with
  the same addresses for inner and outer header.
* deprecate support for various GREXXX ioctls, that doesn't used in FreeBSD.
  Use our standard ioctls for tunnels.

me(4):
* implementation conform to RFC 2004;
* use if_transmit;
* use the same locking model as gre(4);

37e4638f2e Add Makefile snippet to ease porting NetBSD testcases to FreeBSD from
contrib/netbsd-tests

This Makefile snippet handles polluting testcases with -lnetbsd, specific
headers for ATF version differences, and does necessary rewriting for the
testcases to match the format discussed on the TestSuite wiki page
(t_<foo> -> <foo>_test)

One must define SRCTOP (inspired by projects/bmake), OBJTOP, and TESTSRC
(e.g. contrib/netbsd-tests/lib/libc/gen) to use the Makefile snippet

Test programs are specific either via NETBSD_ATF_TESTS_C or NETBSD_ATF_TESTS_SH

C++ analogs aren't currently implemented.

The imported testcases will be cleaned up to use this Makefile snippet pseudo

72ba3c0822 Fix two issues with lockmgr(9) LK_CAN_SHARE() test, which determines
whether the shared request for already shared-locked lock could be
granted. Both problems result in the exclusive locker starvation.

The concurrent exclusive request is indicated by either
LK_EXCLUSIVE_WAITERS or LK_EXCLUSIVE_SPINNERS flags. The reverse
condition, i.e. no exclusive waiters, must check that both flags are
cleared.

Add a flag LK_NODDLKTREAT for shared lock request to indicate that
current thread guarantees that it does not own the lock in shared
mode.  This turns back the exclusive lock starvation avoidance code;
see man page update for detailed description.

Use LK_NODDLKTREAT when doing lookup(9).

10cb24248a This is the much-discussed major upgrade to the random(4) device, known to you all as /dev/random.
This code has had an extensive rewrite and a good series of reviews, both by the author and other parties. This means a lot of code has been simplified. Pluggable structures for high-rate entropy generators are available, and it is most definitely not the case that /dev/random can be driven by only a hardware souce any more. This has been designed out of the device. Hardware sources are stirred into the CSPRNG (Yarrow, Fortuna) like any other entropy source. Pluggable modules may be written by third parties for additional sources.

The harvesting structures and consequently the locking have been simplified. Entropy harvesting is done in a more general way (the documentation for this will follow). There is some GREAT entropy to be had in the UMA allocator, but it is disabled for now as messing with that is likely to annoy many people.

The venerable (but effective) Yarrow algorithm, which is no longer supported by its authors now has an alternative, Fortuna. For now, Yarrow is retained as the default algorithm, but this may be changed using a kernel option. It is intended to make Fortuna the default algorithm for 11.0. Interested parties are encouraged to read ISBN 978-0-470-47424-2 "Cryptography Engineering" By Ferguson, Schneier and Kohno for Fortuna's gory details. Heck, read it anyway.

Many thanks to Arthur Mesh who did early grunt work, and who got caught in the crossfire rather more than he deserved to.

My thanks also to folks who helped me thresh this out on whiteboards and in the odd "Hallway track", or otherwise.

My Nomex pants are on. Let the feedback commence!

4f3dc90023 Add fueword(9) and casueword(9) functions. They are like fuword(9)

I know (or remember) enough assembly to handle x86 and powerpc. For
arm, mips and sparc64, implement fueword() and casueword() as wrappers
around fuword() and casuword(), which means that the functions cannot
distinguish between -1 and fault.

On architectures where fueword() and casueword() are native, implement
fuword() and casuword() using fueword() and casuword(), to reduce
assembly code duplication.

b55e8e6e0d My previous commit exposed an issue as it fixed a different
issue. lib/atf isn't a prereq_lib, since it isn't required for other
libraries to build. Remove it. The old kludge of always building it
had effectively been retired. Since we don't want to build the
libraries with the tests when we're bootstrapping, invent
MK_TESTS_SUPPORT which normally defaults to the current MK_TESTS
value, except when explicitly defined. Make lib/atf depend on it being
yes. When building the libraries set MK_TESTS to no, and
MK_TESTS_SUPPORT to the current value of MK_TESTS so that later stages
of the build work correctly. This should fix (and does for me)
people's issues with parallel builds racing between lib/atf and
libexec/atf. Since lib/atf is built during the libraries phase, the
race disappears.

f0188618f2 Fix multiple incorrect SYSCTL arguments in the kernel:
- Wrong integer type was specified.

- Wrong or missing "access" specifier. The "access" specifier
sometimes included the SYSCTL type, which it should not, except for
procedural SYSCTL nodes.

- Logical OR where binary OR was expected.

- Properly assert the "access" argument passed to all SYSCTL macros,
using the CTASSERT macro. This applies to both static- and dynamically
created SYSCTLs.

- Properly assert the the data type for both static and dynamic
SYSCTLs. In the case of static SYSCTLs we only assert that the data
pointed to by the SYSCTL data pointer has the correct size, hence
there is no easy way to assert types in the C language outside a
C-function.

- Rewrote some code which doesn't pass a constant "access" specifier
when creating dynamic SYSCTL nodes, which is now a requirement.

- Updated "EXAMPLES" section in SYSCTL manual page.

007054f070 Add vxlan interface
vxlan creates a virtual LAN by encapsulating the inner Ethernet frame in
a UDP packet. This implementation is based on RFC7348.

Currently, the IPv6 support is not fully compliant with the specification:
we should be able to receive UPDv6 packets with a zero checksum, but we
need to support RFC6935 first. Patches for this should come soon.

Encapsulation protocols such as vxlan emphasize the need for the FreeBSD
network stack to support batching, GRO, and GSO. Each frame has to make
two trips through the network stack, and each frame will be at most MTU
sized. Performance suffers accordingly.

Some latest generation NICs have begun to support vxlan HW offloads that
we should also take advantage of. VIMAGE support should also be added soon.

r272234:
  Initial commit to include virtual machine images as part
  of the FreeBSD release builds.

  This adds a make(1) environment variable requirement,
  WITH_VMIMAGES, which triggers the virtual machine image
  targets when not defined to an empty value.

  Relevant user-driven variables include:

   o VMFORMATS:	The virtual machine image formats to create.
     Valid formats are provided by running 'mkimg --formats'

   o VMSIZE:	The size of the resulting virtual machine
     image. Typical compression is roughly 140Mb, regardless
     of the target size (10GB, 15GB, 20GB, 40GB sizes have been
     tested with the same result).

   o VMBASE:	The prefix of the virtual machine disk images.
     The VMBASE make(1) environment variable is suffixed with
     each format in VMFORMATS for each individual disk image, as
     well as '.img' for the source UFS filesystem passed to
     mkimg(1).

  This also includes a new script, mk-vmimage.sh, based on how
  the VM images for 10.0-RELEASE, 9.3-RELEASE, and 10.1-RELEASE
  were created (mk-vmimage.sh in ^/user/gjb/thermite/).

  With the order in which the stages need to occur, as well as
  sanity-checking error cases, it makes much more sense to
  execute a shell script called from make(1), using env(1) to
  set specific parameters for the target image than it does to
  do this in make(1) directly.

r272236:
  Use VMBASE in place of a hard-coded filename in the CLEANFILES
  list.

r272262:
  Remove a 'set -x' that snuck in during testing.

r272264:
  release/Makefile:
    Connect the virtual machine image build to the release
    target if WITH_VMIMAGES is set to a non-empty value.

  release/release.sh:
    Add WITH_VMIMAGES to RELEASE_RMAKEFLAGS.

  release/release.conf.sample:
    Add commented entries for tuning the release build if the
    WITH_VMIMAGES make(1) environment variable is set to
    a non-empty value.

r272269:
  release/Makefile:
    Include .OBJDIR in DESTDIR in the vm-base target.

  release/release.sh:
    Provide the full path to mddev.

r272271:
  Fix UFS label for the root filesystem.

r272272:
  Remove comments left in accidentally while testing, so the
  VM /etc/fstab is actually created.

r272277:
  Remove the UFS label from the root filesystem since it is added
  by mkimg(1) as a gpt label, consistent with the fstab(5) entry.

r272279:
  Comment cleanup in panic() message when mkimg(1) does not support
  the requested disk image format.

r272376:
  Separate release/scripts/mk-vmimage.sh to machine-specific
  scripts, making it possible to mimic the functionality for
  non-x86 targets.

  Move echo output if MAKEFLAGS is empty outside of usage().

  Remove TARGET/TARGET_ARCH evaluation.

r272380:
  Avoid using env(1) to set values passed to mk-vmimage.sh,
  and instead pass the values as arguments to the script,
  making it easier to run this by hand, without 'make release'.

  Add usage_vm_base() and usage_vm_image() usage helpers.

r272381:
  After evaluating WITH_VMIMAGES is non-empty, ensure
  the mk-vmimage.sh script exists before running it.

r272392:
  Add WITH_COMPRESSED_VMIMAGES variable, which when set enables
  xz(1) compression of the virtual machine images.

  This is intentionally separate to allow more fine-grained
  tuning over which images are compressed, especially in cases
  where compressing 20GB sparse images can take hours.

r272412:
  Document the new 'vm-image' target, and associated release.conf
  variables.

r272413:
  Remove two stray comments added during the initial iterations
  of testing, no longer needed.

a0dec793d0 Search for the nearest PORTSDIR where Mk/bsd.ports.mk exists, from .CURDIR.
This will only take effect if PORTSDIR is not set, as previously supported.

Use .if exists(), for four specific possibilities relative to .CURDIR:
., .., ../.., and ../../.. The fourth possibility is primarily in case
ports ever grows a third level. If none of these paths exist, fall back to
the old default of /usr/ports.

This removes the need to set PORTSDIR explicitly (or via wrapper script) if
one is running out of a ports tree that is not in /usr/ports, but in a
home directory.

ifa_ifwithdstaddr. For the sake of backwards compatibility, the new
arguments were added to new functions named ifa_ifwithnet_fib and
ifa_ifwithdstaddr_fib, while the old functions became wrappers around the
new ones that passed RT_ALL_FIBS for the fib argument. However, the
backwards compatibility is not desired for FreeBSD 11, because there are
numerous other incompatible changes to the ifnet(9) API. We therefore
decided to remove it from head but leave it in place for stable/9 and

fdd869bd8a Another rpund of fixes, after checking keymaps for plausibility and with
several updates to the converter tools. There is now support for hybrid
source keymaps, which e.g. use ISO8859-1 (not -15) but still provide an
Euro key (on the "E" key). ISO8859-1 currency symbols on other keys are
still converted to that character, not the Euro sign. A similar hack was
applied to the Japanese keyboards to add the Yen key, that could not be
expressed in SYSCONS.

Several modifications have been applied after the conversion (removal of
unused accents tables, some reformatting, exchange of a few key symbols).

The German keymap (de.kbd) is now using deadkeys only for those keys,
that behave that way under Windows. There are now ".acc" and ".noacc"
variants, which use deadkeys vs. nodeadkeys for all accent keys.

I'm still in the process of comparing keymaps that existed in different
encodings in SYSCONS. These are generally translated slightly differently,
either because of mistakes, or because of different preferences, or due
to limitations of the respective encoding.

5608fd23c2 Revert r267233 for now. PIE support needs to be reworked.
1. 50+% of NO_PIE use is fixed by adding -fPIC to INTERNALLIB and other
   build-only utility libraries.
2. Another 40% is fixed by generating _pic.a variants of various libraries.
3. Some of the NO_PIE use is a bit absurd as it is disabling PIE (and ASLR)
   where it never would work anyhow, such as csu or loader. This suggests
   there may be better ways of adding support to the tree. Many of these
   cases can be fixed such that -fPIE will work but there is really no
   reason to have it in those cases.
4. Some of the uses are working around hacks done to some Makefiles that are
   really building libraries but have been using bsd.prog.mk because the code
   is cleaner. Had they been using bsd.lib.mk then NO_PIE would not have
   been needed.

We likely do want to enable PIE by default (opt-out) for non-tree consumers
(such as ports). For in-tree though we probably want to only enable PIE
(opt-in) for common attack targets such as remote service daemons and setuid
utilities. This is also a great performance compromise since ASLR is expected
to reduce performance. As such it does not make sense to enable it in all
utilities such as ls(1) that have little benefit to having it enabled.

7ba08f8145 Attempt at converting the SYSCONS keymaps to Unicode for use with NEWCONS.
I have spent many hours comparing source and destination formats, and hope
to have caught the most severe conversion errors.

Files were converted with a Perl script which I'll shortly commit to the
tools directory. This script is a much enhanced version of the one
provided by ray@ and is expected to support the full kbdmap(5) syntax.

The naming convention used is:

 <2-letter country code>.<variant>.kbd

Only if there are multiple layouts for different languages:

 <2-letter country code>-<2-letter language code>.<variant>.kbd

In nearly all cases, the keyboards are country specific, only. Currently
there is only one case where the language was added ("ch-fr.kbd" for
the Swiss-French keyboard layout).

I choose to write Unicode character codes as hex numbers. While this
increases the diff to the SYSCONS keymap files for the trivial cases
(conversion from ISO8859-1), it really helps to verify the more complex
cases against a Unicode table (which is indexed by hex numbers).

This commit does not cover all files that have been converted, since I
need to sort out which ones to use, if there were several with different
source encodings to choose from.

Review and test of the keymap files is highly desirable before 10.1 is
released. I'd also appreciate educated opinions regarding the optimum
variant (to be made available as the default for each language).

Since there are no NEWCONS keymaps in 10-STABLE, I plan to MFC after
the minimum allowed delay of 3 days, to allow at least a few weeks to
test and improve what will be in the next release.

d029c3aa25 Rework privatelib/internallib
Make sure everything linking to a privatelib and/or an internallib does it directly
from the OBJDIR rather than DESTDIR.
Add src.libnames.mk so bsd.libnames.mk is not polluted by libraries not existsing
in final installation
Introduce the LD* variable which is what ld(1) is expecting (via LDADD) to link to
internal/privatelib
Directly link to the .so in case of private library to avoid having to complexify
LDFLAGS.

a695d9b25b Retire pmap_change_wiring(). We have never used it to wire virtual pages.
We continue to use pmap_enter() for that. For unwiring virtual pages, we
now use pmap_unwire(), which unwires a range of virtual addresses instead
of a single virtual page.

49217bc51e bsd.lib.mk does not add OBJS etc to CLEANFILES so does not automatically
get them flagged as .NOPATH. This hurts people who don't use obj dirs.
Since its clean target seprate rm's for things, use NOPATH_FILES as list
to collect things that need .NOPATH.

bsd.obj.mk will add CLEANFILES to NOPATH_FILES and do the deed if needed.
