b9d45cebf4 The interface index space may be sparsely populated (e.g. when an
interface in the middle is if_detach()'d). Return (and handle)
ENOENT when the ifmib(4) is accessed for a nonexistent interface.

f9132cebdc Wrap array accesses in macros, which also happen to be lvalues:
ifnet_addrs[i - 1]  -> ifaddr_byindex(i)
        ifindex2ifnet[i]    -> ifnet_byindex(i)

This is intended to ease the conversion to SMPng.

82d9ae4e32 Style police catches up with rev 1.26 of src/sys/sys/sysctl.h:
Sanitize SYSCTL_HANDLER_ARGS so that simplistic tools can grog our
sources:

        -sysctl_vm_zone SYSCTL_HANDLER_ARGS
        +sysctl_vm_zone (SYSCTL_HANDLER_ARGS)

ce02431ffa * Change sysctl from using linker_set to construct its tree using SLISTs.
This makes it possible to change the sysctl tree at runtime.

* Change KLD to find and register any sysctl nodes contained in the loaded
file and to unregister them when the file is unloaded.

2127f26023 Examine all occurrences of sprintf(), strcat(), and str[n]cpy()
for possible buffer overflow problems. Replaced most sprintf()'s
with snprintf(); for others cases, added terminating NUL bytes where
appropriate, replaced constants like "16" with sizeof(), etc.

These changes include several bug fixes, but most changes are for
maintainability's sake. Any instance where it wasn't "immediately
obvious" that a buffer overflow could not occur was made safer.

6875d25465 Back out part 1 of the MCFH that changed $Id$ to $FreeBSD$. We are not
ready for it yet.

1130b656e5 Make the long-awaited change from $Id$ to $FreeBSD$
This will make a number of things easier in the future, as well as (finally!)
avoiding the Id-smashing problem which has plagued developers for so long.

Boy, I'm glad we're not using sup anymore. This update would have been
insane otherwise.

4458ac71b1 Removed nested include if <sys/socket.h> from <net/if.h> and
<net/if_arp.h> and fixed the things that depended on it. The nested
include just allowed unportable programs to compile and made my
simple #include checking program report that networking code doesn't
need to include <sys/socket.h>.

bbd17bf8e1 Add better support for retrieving management information from network
interfaces. This creates two new tables in the net.link.generic branch
of the MIB; one contains (essentially) `ifdata' structures, and the other
contains a blob provided by the interface (and presumably used to
implement link-layer-specific MIB variables). A number of things
have been moved around in the `ifnet' and `ifdata' structures, so
NEW VERSIONS OF ifconfig(8) AND routed(8) ARE REQUIRED. (A simple
recompile is all that's necessary.)

I have a sample program which uses this interface for those interested
in making use of it.
