7e91e73b9f Add $Id$, to make it simpler for members of the translation teams to 
track.

The $Id$ line is normally at the bottom of the main comment block in the
man page, separated from the rest of the manpage by an empty comment,
like so;

     .\"    $Id$
     .\"

If the immediately preceding comment is a @(#) format ID marker than the
the $Id$ will line up underneath it with no intervening blank lines.
Otherwise, an additional blank line is inserted.

d481e744ca Don't build or install ${MAN1}. It's just a copy of ${MAN1aout} and 
installing it clobbers the elf ${MAN1}.  The MAN1 -> MAN1aout changes
actually work now.

Fixed order of MAN* and BINDIR.

dca8a4e1e6 ELF preparation step 1: 
Move our old a.out utils to /usr/libexec/aout.
Enable binutils and put the utils in /usr/libexec/elf
Enable objformat, a little helper program that calls the right
utils based on /etc/objformat and $OBJFORMAT.

This will enable the ELF generating tools.
Remember that this is only step one, the system is still compiled
and run in a.out format ONLY.

Problem left to solve: The BSD manpages wins over the GNU equivalents
as the are installed last. We need to distinguish between the manpages
somehow...

93191882da localtime() needs a pointer to time_t which is not necessarily a long. 
So use a time_t in the chdr structure so that no casts are required.

9c0cd3f9df Make the long-awaited change from $Id$ to $FreeBSD$ 
This will make a number of things easier in the future, as well as (finally!)
avoiding the Id-smashing problem which has plagued developers for so long.

Boy, I'm glad we're not using sup anymore.  This update would have been
insane otherwise.

a7f4716057 The -q option does not require a list of elements: the command 'ar q foo.a' 
is perfectly valid and eventually creates an empty archive.
This is consistent with OSF1 V3.x, SunOS 4.x, ULTRIX 4.x and probably others.

dfbf6cbddc Correct some man page xrefs, and some other minor changes to bring some 
man pages up to mdoc guidelines and fix some minor formatting glitches.
Also fixed a number of man pages to not abuse the .Xr macro to
display functions and path names and a lot of other junk.

eb7b72bd3e Change ar's internal error routine to call err() instead of errx() 
so that when ar has a problem (like trying to update a read-only
archive), you get a message like:

ar: xyzzy.a: Permission denined

instead of:

ar: xyzzy.a

Which doesn't really give the user any indication that the operation
really did fail.

This closes PR# 170.

2233ca955f Back out the change in rev.1.4 and fix the formatting of the change 
in rev.1.3.  1.4 just broke 1.3 for the -x case.

This fixes PR 721 and merges archive.c with 4.4Lite2.

029e053897 Old fix from Robert Crowe <bob@speakez.com> that has been sitting in 
my mailbox since early last year. Fixes a problem with running out of
fds (by hitting the limit or whatever) when ar is given a long list of
objects. The fix was to add a missing close().
