cd72f2180b Change struct file f_data to un_data, a union of the correct struct
pointer types, and remove a huge number of casts from code using it.

Change struct xfile xf_data to xun_data (ABI is still compatible).

If we need to add a #define for f_data and xf_data we can, but I don't
think it will be necessary. There are no operational changes in this
commit.

13438f6823 When compiling the kernel do not implicitly include filedesc.h from proc.h,
this was causing filedesc work to be very painful.
In order to make this work split out sigio definitions to thier own header
(sigio.h) which is included from proc.h for the time being.

86fea6be59 o Untangle the confusion with the malloc flags {M_WAITOK, M_NOWAIT} and
the mbuf allocator flags {M_TRYWAIT, M_DONTWAIT}.
o Fix a bpf_compat issue where malloc() was defined to just call
  bpf_alloc() and pass the 'canwait' flag(s) along. It's been changed
  to call bpf_alloc() but pass the corresponding M_TRYWAIT or M_DONTWAIT
  flag (and only one of those two).

0adb6d7a49 Remove the hto(be|le)[slq] and (be|le)toh[slq] macros defined in
_KERNEL scope from "src/sys/sys/mchain.h".

Replace each occurrence of the above in _KERNEL scope with the
appropriate macro from the set of hto(be|le)(16|32|64) and
(be|le)toh(16|32|64) from "src/sys/sys/endian.h".

985cce5132 - Change mb_copy_t to take a size_t as the length argument instead of an
int.
- Change the local variable in smb_copy_iconv() from an int to a size_t.

These make smb_copy_iconv() happy in a 64-bit world.

316ec49abd Some kernel threads try to do significant work, and the default KSTACK_PAGES
doesn't give them enough stack to do much before blowing away the pcb.
This adds MI and MD code to allow the allocation of an alternate kstack
who's size can be speficied when calling kthread_create. Passing the
value 0 prevents the alternate kstack from being created. Note that the
ia64 MD code is missing for now, and PowerPC was only partially written
due to the pmap.c being incomplete there.
Though this patch does not modify anything to make use of the alternate
kstack, acpi and usb are good candidates.

5c38b6dbce Wire the sysctl output buffer before grabbing any locks to prevent
SYSCTL_OUT() from blocking while locks are held. This should
only be done when it would be inconvenient to make a temporary copy of

released.

243917fe3b Lock down a socket, milestone 1.
o Add a mutex (sb_mtx) to struct sockbuf. This protects the data in a
  socket buffer. The mutex in the receive buffer also protects the data
  in struct socket.

o Determine the lock strategy for each members in struct socket.

o Lock down the following members:

  - so_count
  - so_options
  - so_linger
  - so_state

o Remove *_locked() socket APIs. Make the following socket APIs
  touching the members above now require a locked socket:

 - sodisconnect()
 - soisconnected()
 - soisconnecting()
 - soisdisconnected()
 - soisdisconnecting()
 - sofree()
 - soref()
 - sorele()
 - sorwakeup()
 - sotryfree()
 - sowakeup()
 - sowwakeup()

44731cab3b Change the suser() API to take advantage of td_ucred as well as do a
general cleanup of the API. The entire API now consists of two functions
similar to the pre-KSE API. The suser() function takes a thread pointer
as its only argument. The td_ucred member of this thread must be valid
so the only valid thread pointers are curthread and a few kernel threads
such as thread0. The suser_cred() function takes a pointer to a struct
ucred as its first argument and an integer flag as its second argument.
The flag is currently only used for the PRISON_ROOT flag.

426da3bcfb SMP Lock struct file, filedesc and the global file list.
Seigo Tanimura (tanimura) posted the initial delta.

I've polished it quite a bit reducing the need for locking and
adapting it for KSE.

Locks:

1 mutex in each filedesc
   protects all the fields.
   protects "struct file" initialization, while a struct file
     is being changed from &badfileops -> &pipeops or something
     the filedesc should be locked.

1 mutex in each struct file
   protects the refcount fields.
   doesn't protect anything else.
   the flags used for garbage collection have been moved to
     f_gcflag which was the FILLER short, this doesn't need
     locking because the garbage collection is a single threaded
     container.
  could likely be made to use a pool mutex.

1 sx lock for the global filelist.

struct file *	fhold(struct file *fp);
        /* increments reference count on a file */

struct file *	fhold_locked(struct file *fp);
        /* like fhold but expects file to locked */

struct file *	ffind_hold(struct thread *, int fd);
        /* finds the struct file in thread, adds one reference and
                returns it unlocked */

struct file *	ffind_lock(struct thread *, int fd);
        /* ffind_hold, but returns file locked */

I still have to smp-safe the fget cruft, I'll get to that asap.

9c4d63da6d o Make the credential used by socreate() an explicit argument to
socreate(), rather than getting it implicitly from the thread
  argument.

o Make NFS cache the credential provided at mount-time, and use
  the cached credential (nfsmount->nm_cred) when making calls to
  socreate() on initially connecting, or reconnecting the socket.

This fixes bugs involving NFS over TCP and ipfw uid/gid rules, as well
as bugs involving NFS and mandatory access control implementations.
