Quoting from https://maskray.me/blog/2023-04-12-elf-hash-function: The System V Application Binary Interface (generic ABI) specifies the ELF object file format. When producing an output executable or shared object needing a dynamic symbol table (.dynsym), a linker generates a .hash section with type SHT_HASH to hold a symbol hash table. A DT_HASH tag is produced to hold the address of .hash. The function is supposed to return a value no larger than 0x0fffffff. Unfortunately, there is a bug. When unsigned long consists of more than 32 bits, the return value may be larger than UINT32_MAX. For instance, elf_hash((const unsigned char *)"\xff\x0f\x0f\x0f\x0f\x0f\x12") returns 0x100000002, which is clearly unintended, as the function should behave the same way regardless of whether long represents a 32-bit integer or a 64-bit integer. FreeBSD Source:
This is the top level of the FreeBSD source directory.
FreeBSD is an operating system used to power modern servers, desktops, and embedded platforms. A large community has continually developed it for more than thirty years. Its advanced networking, security, and storage features have made FreeBSD the platform of choice for many of the busiest web sites and most pervasive embedded networking and storage devices.
For copyright information, please see the file COPYRIGHT in this directory. Additional copyright information also exists for some sources in this tree - please see the specific source directories for more information.
The Makefile in this directory supports a number of targets for building components (or all) of the FreeBSD source tree. See build(7), config(8), FreeBSD handbook on building userland, and Handbook for kernels for more information, including setting make(1) variables.
For information on the CPU architectures and platforms supported by FreeBSD, see the FreeBSD website's Platforms page.
