We've created a new pf_ruleset.c file for pfctl and no longer use the
kernel vrsion, but the build system doesn't handle this dependency
change correctly. Delete the dependency file if it contains the kernel
version of the file.

GDB 6.1.1 was released in June 2004 and is long obsolete. It does not
support all of the architectures that FreeBSD does, and imposes
limitations on the FreeBSD kernel build, such as the continued use of
DWARF2 debugging information.
It was kept (in /usr/libexec/) only for use by crashinfo(8), which
extracts some basic information from a kernel core dump after a crash.
Crashinfo already prefers gdb from port/package if installed.
Future work may add kernel debug support to LLDB or find another path
for crashinfo's needs, but in any case we do not want to ship the
excessively outdated GDB in FreeBSD 13.

ubuntu, but 1m14 on macOS?)

be just as fast (4 logical cores vs 2 physical cores before, go figure.)

I've used WITH_INIT_ALL_* to match Microsoft's InitAll feature rather
than naming them after the LLVM specific compiler flags.
In a range of consumer products, options like these are used in
both debug and production builds with debugs builds using patterns
(intended to provoke crashes on use of uninitialized values) and
production using zeros (deemed more likely to lead to harmless
misbehavior or NULL-pointer dereferences).

Since elftoolchain's cxxfilt is rather far behind on features, and we
ran into several bugs, add an option to use llvm-cxxfilt as an drop-in
replacement.
It supports the same options as elftoolchain cxxfilt, though it doesn't
have support for old ARM (C++ Annotated Reference Manual, not the CPU)
and GNU v2 manglings. But these are irrelevant in 2020.
Note: as we already compile the required libraries as part of libllvm,
this will not add any significant build time either.

Upon a bit of debugging, it turns out that /dev/null inside the chroot
environment is full random bytes, which cause "make -f /dev/null" to
misbehave. Mounting a proper devfs inside the chroot seems to be the most
appropriate way to fix it.

must exist in the old kernel.

The Ubuntu /bin/sh (dash) removes all environment variables that contain
characters outside the [a-zA-Z0-9_] range and this breaks the bmake tests that
run as part of bootstrapping bmake.
This can be reverted when the bmake tests have been updated.
This makes it possible to compile on non-FreeBSD systems since make will
usually be GNU make there. Even if they include bmake, it will often
either be a broken version or too old to build FreeBSD.
This should be the last commit needed to compile FreeBSD on Linux+macOS.
After over two years, I've finally managed to upstream all our local CheriBSD
changes to allow building on Linux (and as a result of being reviewed by more
people they are slightly less ugly than they were before).
It should now be possible to run the following to build on Linux+macOS if you
have LLVM/Clang 10 or newer installed:
MAKEOBJDIRPREFIX=/somewhere ./tools/build/make.py TARGET=amd64 TARGET_ARCH=amd64 buildworld
I have only tested macOS 15, Ubuntu 18.04 and openSUSE Leap, but other Linux

The current default is provided in various Makefile.inc in some top-level
directories and covers a good portion of the tree, but doesn't cover parts
of the build a little deeper (e.g. libcasper).
Provide a default in src.sys.mk and set WARNS to it in bsd.sys.mk if that
variable is defined. This lets us relatively cleanly provide a default WARNS
no matter where you're building in the src tree without breaking things
outside of the tree.
Crunchgen has been updated as a bootstrap tool to work on this change
because it needs r365605 at a minimum to succeed. The cleanup necessary to
successfully walk over this change on WITHOUT_CLEAN builds has been added.
There is a supplemental project to this to list all of the warnings that are
encountered when the environment has WARNS=6 NO_WERROR=yes:

In D12421, the ability to compile stand/ in little-endian was added, with the
intention to extend loader.kboot to run in Petitboot.
However, no further work was done, as the kernel then gained self-execution
capabilities as Petitboot was taught to load FreeBSD kernels directly.
The FreeBSD installer on powerpc64 (on POWER8 and POWER9) uses
/boot/etc/kboot.conf instead of loader.
As this option does nothing but cause stand/ to be miscompiled and actively
causes confusion, remove it.
(I have a functioning petitboot loader in my local tree, however, it turned
out to be quite inconvient to use due to the current petitboot plugin design
so I put it on hold.)

Currently, WITHOUT_PORTSNAP forces WITHOUT_FREEBSD_UPDATE because the
latter relies on phttpget, which lives inside the portsnap build bits.
Remove the dependency between these two options by moving phttpget out into
^/libexec and building/installing it if either WITH_PORTSNAP or
WITH_FREEBSD_UPDATE.
Future work could remove the conditional if it's decided that users will use
it independently of either the current in-base consumers.

This allows use of the standard src.conf configuration for controlling

We have some hacks to remove stale dependency files for NO_CLEAN
builds that are missed by make's dependency handling. These are
intended to upport ongoing NO_CLEAN builds, and are no longer needed
after a sufficient amount of time elapses.

For historical reasons, defining MALLOC_PRODUCTION in /etc/make.conf has
been used to turn off potentially expensive debug checks and statistics
gathering in the implementation of malloc(3).
It seems more consistent to turn this into a regular src.conf(5) option,
e.g. WITH_MALLOC_PRODUCTION / WITHOUT_MALLOC_PRODUCTION. This can then
be toggled similar to any other source build option, and turned on or
off by default for e.g. stable branches.

worth the effort to try to address this with any granularity; instead,
just trigger on a .depend file indicating a tree from before the import,
and remove the whole cddl object tree.

The most awkward bit in this patch is the bootstrapping of m4:
We can't simply use the host version of m4 since that is not compatible
with the flags passed by lex (at least on macOS, possibly also on Linux).
Therefore we need to bootstrap m4, but lex needs m4 to build and m4 also
depends on lex (which needs m4 to generate any files). To work around this
cyclic dependency we can build a bootstrap version of m4 (with pre-generated
files) then use that to build the real m4.
This patch also changes the xz/unxz/dd tools to always use the host version
since the version in the source tree cannot easily be bootstrapped on macOS
or Linux.

In most cases this simply builds the file from lib/libc for missing
functions (e.g. strlcpy on Linux etc.). In cases where this is not possible
I've added an implementation to tools/build/cross-build.
The fgetln.c/fgetwln.c/closefrom.c compatibility code was obtained from
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libbsd/libbsd, but I'm not sure it makes
sense to import it into to contrib just for these three bootstrap files.

Although I can't reproduce it, others are seeing different lex/yacc
programs always regenerated after my change to copy rather than
symlink the files. The reported fix is to add '-p' to the copies.
Since it doesn't hurt, go head and add it, though the reasons for
this mattering remain at best obscure and poorly articulated.
The -P flag is required by POSIX so we don't have to care whether pwd is
a shell builtin or not. This also allows removing pwd from the list of
bootstrap tools since all shells we care about for building have a
builtin pwd command. This effectively reverts r364190.

After r364166 and r364174, crunchgen needs a pwd binary in $PATH instead
of using a hardcoded absolute path. This commit is needed for
BUILD_WITH_STRICT_TMPPATH builds (currently not on by default).
make copies instead.
There's too many times that we can't run the new binaries with old
libraries. Making the links when things are known to be 'safe' is a
nice optimization, but a copy of all the binaries is only 30MB, so
saving the copies at the cost of increased support when new symbols
are added and used as part of the bootstrap seems to be unwise.
There may be additional optimizations possible here, especially for
!FreeBSD hosts. However, that's beyond the scope of the problem I'm
trying to fix with make failing mid-way through an installworld across
change r363679. This optimization there caused us to run a new binary
with an old library once a new make was installed due to the symbolic
link. One could just copy make, but then other binaries fail as well,
so rather than play whack-a-mole, I opted to take us back to the old
way. Before r340157 or so we did copies (thogh of a lot fewer
artifacts), and we didn't have issues like this.

libucl comes with a Lua library binding. Build it into flua.
This lets us parse/generate config files in the various formats supported by
libucl with flua. For example, the following script will detect the format of
an object written to stdin as one of UCL config, JSON, or YAML and write it to
stdout as pretty-printed JSON:

Save and restore (also known as suspend and resume) permits a snapshot
to be taken of a guest's state that can later be resumed. In the
current implementation, bhyve(8) creates a UNIX domain socket that is
used by bhyvectl(8) to send a request to save a snapshot (and
optionally exit after the snapshot has been taken). A snapshot
currently consists of two files: the first holds a copy of guest RAM,
and the second file holds other guest state such as vCPU register
values and device model state.
To resume a guest, bhyve(8) must be started with a matching pair of
command line arguments to instantiate the same set of device models as
well as a pointer to the saved snapshot.
While the current implementation is useful for several uses cases, it
has a few limitations. The file format for saving the guest state is
tied to the ABI of internal bhyve structures and is not
self-describing (in that it does not communicate the set of device
models present in the system). In addition, the state saved for some
device models closely matches the internal data structures which might
prove a challenge for compatibility of snapshot files across a range
of bhyve versions. The file format also does not currently support
versioning of individual chunks of state. As a result, the current
file format is not a fixed binary format and future revisions to save
and restore will break binary compatiblity of snapshot files. The
goal is to move to a more flexible format that adds versioning,
etc. and at that point to commit to providing a reasonable level of
compatibility. As a result, the current implementation is not enabled
by default. It can be enabled via the WITH_BHYVE_SNAPSHOT=yes option
for userland builds, and the kernel option BHYVE_SHAPSHOT.

This option was added as a transition aide when symbol versioning was
first added. It was enabled by default in 2007 and is supported even

For stable/ branches, it should be flipped to default-off to maintain the
status quo.
There's value in being able to flip it one way or the other easily on head
or stable branches, whether you want to gain some performance back on head/
(for machines there's little chance you'll actually hit an assertion) or
potentially diagnose a problem with the version of llvm on an older branch.
Currently, stable branches get the CFLAGS+= -ndebug line uncommented; going
forward, they will instead have the default of LLVM_ASSERTIONS flipped.

In-tree gdb is essentially obsolete. We kept it for sparc64 (because
gdb in ports lacked sparc64 support) and as a fallback for crashinfo.
gdb was installed to /libexec on all archs other than sparc64, where the
WITHOUT_GDB_LIBEXEC option was default, with gdb installed to /usr/bin.
With sparc64's retirement WITH_GDB_LIBEXEC became the default for all
architectures, but it was still possible to set it off and install gdb
into /usr/bin.
As the next step in gdb's retirement, remove the option and install gdb
only into /libexec as the crashinfo fallback. We expect users to install
the gdb port or package for debugging. The in-tree gdb lacks support for
a number of supported architectures and does not support contemporary
DWARF debug info.

Now that we no longer have GCC 4.2.1 in the tree and can assume FreeBSD
is being built with a C++11 compiler available, we can use BSDL dtc
unconditionally and retire the GPL dtc.
GPL dtc now has FreeBSD CI support via Cirrus-CI to help ensure it
continues to build/work on FreeBSD and is available in the ports tree
if needed.
The copy of (copyfree licensed) libfdt that we actually use is in
sys/contrib/libfdt so the extra copy under contrib/dtc/libfdt can be
removed along with the rest of the GPL dtc.

As described in Warner's email message[1] to the FreeBSD-arch mailing
list we have reached GCC 4.2.1's retirement date. At this time all
supported architectures either use in-tree Clang, or rely on external
toolchain (i.e., a contemporary GCC version from ports).
GCC 4.2.1 was released July 18, 2007 and was imported into FreeBSD later
that year, in r171825. GCC has served us well, but version 4.2.1 is
obsolete and not used by default on any architecture in FreeBSD. It
does not support modern C and does not support arm64 or RISC-V.
Thanks to everyone responsible for maintaining, updating, and testing
GCC in the FreeBSD base system over the years.

Use of binutils is being incrementally reduced. The specific binutils

is no need to list the specific tools again in the descriptions for the

simple_httpd was granted a reprieve from the picobsd removal based on having
some reported user; it turns out this user isn't actually using the version
in base and merging their changes would be difficult at this point, so the
version in base will simply continue to rot. Retire it now, it may make a
comeback to ports with the improved version.
No notice issued because its current visibility has only been for ~3
months, and a notice has been previously issued about picobsd removal.
In order to do so we need to install the msdosfs headers to the bootstrap
sysroot and avoid includes of kernel headers that may not exist on every
host (e.g. sys/lockmgr.h). This change should allow bootstrapping of makefs
on FreeBSD 11+ as well as Linux and macOS.
We also have to avoid using the IO_SYNC macro since that may not be
available. In makefs it is only used to switch between calling
bwrite() and bdwrite() which both call the same function. Therefore we
can simply always call bwrite().
For our CheriBSD builds we always bootstrap makefs by setting
LOCAL_XTOOL_DIRS='lib/libnetbsd usr.sbin/makefs' and use the makefs binary
from the build tree to create a bootable disk image.

${WORLDTMP}/legacy/usr/libexec will only have libexec/ bits that we've
pushed as bootstrap tools, so this is generally safe to include prior to
PATH. The following are the ramifications of this change:
- BPATH addition gets us at least bootstrap flua in WMAKEENV path for
buildenv, for those earlier systems where it's bootstrapped still
- Reworked the sysent target to just set PATH and let it get worked out in
src.lua.mk or individual sysent makefiles -- this gives us back the
ability to overwrite LUA_CMD and use a different/external lua for these
targets. sysent can also now work cleanly in buildenv.
- tools/build/Makefile will now symlink the host flua into build's host
tools so that the above can work without needing to add the host's
/usr/libexec explicitly into TMPPATH.

For libssp.so, rebuild stack_protector.c with FORTIFY_SOURCE stubs that just
abort built into it.
For libssp_nonshared.a, steal stack_protector_compat.c from
^/lib/libc/secure and massage it to maintain that __stack_chk_fail_local
is a hidden symbol.
libssp is now built unconditionally regardless of {WITH,WITHOUT}_SSP in the
build environment, and the gcclibs version has been disconnected from the
build in favor of this one.

Enable on powerpc64 and in lib/libclang_rt/Makefile change
MACHINE_CPUARCH to MACHINE_ARCH because on powerpc64
MACHINE_ARCH==MACHINE_CPUARCH so the 32-bit library overwrites 64-bit
library during installworld.
This patch doesn't enable any other libclang_rt libraries because they
need to be separately ported.
I have verified that games/julius (which fails on powerpc64 elfv2
without this change because of no libclang_rt profiling library) builds.

This provides a framework to define a template describing
a set of "variables of interest" and the intended way for
the framework to maintain them (for example the maximum, sum,
t-digest, or a combination thereof). Afterwards the user
code feeds in the raw data, and the framework maintains
these variables inside a user-provided, opaque stats blobs.
The framework also provides a way to selectively extract the
stats from the blobs. The stats(3) framework can be used in
both userspace and the kernel.

The stats(3) framework is disabled by default for now, except

picobsd/tinyware has had this compact HTTPD server for a long time, and some
people do use it. Move it out into usr.sbin well in advance of any action
being taken on picobsd.
This has been gated behind an HTTPD option defaulted to *off*, primarily for
two reasons:
1.) This code likely needs a good audit, as it's been living off in picobsd
land for a long time, and
2.) We don't currently ship an httpd and this may not be a welcome surprise.

ASAN reports become a lot more useful with llvm-symbolizer in $PATH, and the
build is not much more time-consuming. The added benefit is that the
resulting reports will actually include symbol information; without, thread

The current approach of injecting manifest into mac_veriexec is to
verify the integrity of it in userspace (veriexec (8)) and pass its
entries into kernel using a char device (/dev/veriexec).
This requires verifying root partition integrity in loader,
for example by using memory disk and checking its hash.
Otherwise if rootfs is compromised an attacker could inject their own data.
This patch introduces an option to parse manifest in kernel based on envs.
The loader sets manifest path and digest.
EVENTHANDLER is used to launch the module right after the rootfs is mounted.
It has to be done this way, since one might want to verify integrity of the init file.
This means that manifest is required to be present on the root partition.
Note that the envs have to be set right before boot to make sure that no one can spoof them.

This initial integration takes googlemock/googletest release 1.8.1, integrates
the library, tests, and sample unit tests into the build.
googlemock/googletest's inclusion is optionally available via `MK_GOOGLETEST`.
`MK_GOOGLETEST` is dependent on `MK_TESTS` and is enabled by default when
built with a C++11 capable toolchain.
Google tests can be specified via the `GTESTS` variable, which, in comparison
with the other test drivers, is more simplified/streamlined, as Googletest only
supports C++ tests; not raw C or shell tests (C tests can be written in C++
using the standard embedding methods).
No dependent libraries are assumed for the tests. One must specify `gmock`,
`gmock_main`, `gtest`, or `gtest_main`, via `LIBADD` for the program.

UEFI related headers were copied from edk2.
A new build option "MK_LOADER_EFI_SECUREBOOT" was added to allow
loading of trusted anchors from UEFI.
Certificate revocation support is also introduced.
The forbidden certificates are loaded from dbx variable.
Verification fails in two cases:
There is a direct match between cert in dbx and the one in the chain.
The CA used to sign the chain is found in dbx.
One can also insert a hash of TBS section of a certificate into dbx.
In this case verifications fails only if a direct match with a
certificate in chain is found.

Building binaries as PIE allows the executable itself to be loaded at a
random address when ASLR is enabled (not just its shared libraries).
With this change PIE objects have a .pieo extension and INTERNALLIB
libraries libXXX_pie.a.
MK_PIE is disabled for some kerberos5 tools, Clang, and Subversion, as
they explicitly reference .a libraries in their Makefiles. These can
be addressed on an individual basis later. MK_PIE is also disabled for
rtld-elf because it is already position-independent using bespoke
Makefile rules.
Currently only dynamically linked binaries will be built as PIE.

This is primarily aimed at failed updates due to package conflicts, and
affects treatment of failed updates. Whereas before potentially a large
number of packages would need to be synced for each attempt, they can now
be persisted. Requires rsync. There may be better ways to implement this,
e.g. using secondary cache path that is only used on followup attempts and
then wiped on success, which avoids polluting current cache.
MK_AUDIT already controls auditd(8), praudit(1), etc. It should also control
the audit test suite.

The linker's -z now flag sets the DF_BIND_NOW flag, which signals to the
runtime loader that all relocation processing should be performed at
process startup rather than on demand. In combination with lld's
default of enabling relro this causes the GOT to be made read-only when
the process starts, preventing straightforward GOT overwrite attacks.
Shawn Webb discovered a failure on HardenedBSD with BIND_NOW and ifunc
use, which resulted in my rtld fix in r340137. Add a BIND_NOW knob as
it is trivial to do so and is a useful ELF hardening feature. This
change is equivalent to HardenedBSD's but not identical as there are
other diffs/conflicts nearby.
Note that our ELF Tool Chain readelf does not currently decode the
DF_BIND_NOW flag - see PR232983.

Inheriting $PATH during the build phase can cause the build to fail when
compiling on a different system due to missing build tools or incompatible
versions somewhere in $PATH. This has cause build failures for us before
due to the jenkins slaves still running FreeBSD 10.
Listing the tools we depend on explicitly instead of just using whatever
happens to be in $PATH allows us to check that we don't accidentally add a
new build dependency.
All tools that do no need to be bootstrapped will now be symlinked to
${WORLDTMP}/legacy/bin and during the build phase $PATH will only contain
${WORLDTMP}. There is also a new variable "BOOTSTRAP_ALL_TOOLS" which can
be set to force compiling almost all bootstrap tools instead of symlinking
them. This will not bootstrap tools such as cp,mv, etc. since they may be
used during the build and for those we should really only be using POSIX
compatible options.
Furthermore, this change is required in order to be able to build on
non-FreeBSD hosts. While the same binaries may exist on Linux/MacOS they
often accept different flags or produce incompatible output.

You should not be using DES. You should not have been using DES for the
past 30 years.
The ed DES-CBC scheme lacked several desirable properties of a sealed
document system, even ignoring DES itself. In particular, it did not
provide the "integrity" cryptographic property (detection of tampering), and
it treated ASCII passwords as 64-bit keys (instead of using a KDF like
scrypt or PBKDF2).
Some general approaches ed(1) users might consider to replace the removed
DES mode:
1. Full disk encryption with something like AES-XTS. This is easy to
conceptualize, design, and implement, and it provides confidentiality for
data at rest. Like CBC, it lacks tampering protection. Examples include
GELI, LUKS, FileVault2.
2. Encrypted overlay ("stackable") filesystems (EncFS, PEFS?, CryptoFS,
others).
3. Native encryption at the filesystem layer. Ext4/F2FS, ZFS, APFS, and
NTFS all have some flavor of this.
4. Storing your files unencrypted. It's not like DES was doing you much
good.
If you have DES-CBC scrambled files produced by ed(1) prior to this change,
you may decrypt them with:
openssl des-cbc -d -iv 0 -K <key in hex> -in <inputfile> -out <plaintext>

In the last decade(s) we have seen both short term or long term projects
committed to the tree which were considered or even marked "experimental".
While out-of-tree development has become easier than it used to be in
CVS times, there still is a need to have the code shipping with HEAD but
not enabled by default.
While people may think about VIMAGE as one of the recent larger, long term
projects, early protocol implementations (before they are standardised)
are others. (Free)BSD historically was one of the operating systems
which would have running code at early stages and help develop and
influence standardisation and the industry.
Give developers an opportunity to be more pro-active for early adoption
or running large scale code changes stumbling over each others but not
the user's feet. I have not added the option to NOTES in order to avoid
breaking supported option builds, which require constant compile testing.

WITHOUT_LOADER_LUA is only needed since we turned it off by default on
powerpc and sparc64 in r338203. Same with
WITHOUT_LOADER_GEIL. WITH_NVME, WITHOUT_NVME, WITH_LOADER_FORCE_LE
have been needed since they were added.
Without this we get spurious output during boot as we try to run
nonexistant HyperV scripts on non-x86 models.

vermaden (maintainer of beadm) points out the following inconsistencies:
- "missing command" is not printed prior to usage if the error is simply a
missing command; this should be obvious from the context
- "bectl rename" isn't using the "don't unmount" flag (zfs rename -u), so
the active BE can't be renamed. It doesn't make sense in our context to
*not* use -u, so use it.
Documentation updates reflect the above and note an inconsistency with the
'destroy' command that is consistent with other parts of the base system.
A fix for libbe(3) not properly being installed to /lib is included.
SHLIBDIR should have been added when it was moved in r337995.

Checking for any include below ${SRCTOP}/sys is too strict and breaks
e.g. mkimg which includes sys/sys/disk. ABI issues will only be caused
by including headers in sys/sys since they might not match the host.

This has two advantages:
1) We no longer create lots of empty directories that are not needed
2) This is a requirement for building on non-FreeBSD hosts since mtree will
only exist after the bootstrap-tools phase there.

This can cause surprising errors if the build tools is built against
headers that don't match the host system. It is also required in order
to allow building on non-FreeBSD systems where the headers in
/usr/include/sys are usually completely incompatible with those in the
source tree.
I added an error to Makefile.boot if this is done and found this was
only the case in libnv. With this error in the Makefile ABI breakages
such as r336019 should no longer be possible.

BPF (eBPF) is an independent instruction set architecture which is
introduced in Linux a few years ago. Originally, eBPF execute
environment was only inside Linux kernel. However, recent years there
are some user space implementation (https://github.com/iovisor/ubpf,
https://doc.dpdk.org/guides/prog_guide/bpf_lib.html) and kernel space
implementation for FreeBSD is going on
(https://github.com/YutaroHayakawa/generic-ebpf).
The BPF target support can be enabled using WITH_LLVM_TARGET_BPF, as it
is not built by default.

Since all post-installkernel steps are assumed to operate in the updated
installation, it's necessary to chroot all of the followup steps in the new
boot environment. Set up and mount the source and object directories at the
same paths inside the BE root, and clean up to the extent changes were made.
This commit fixes upgrading using beinstall past the new ntpd user change.
Improve testability of changes to this script while I'm here.

Since r336126 we depend on explicit_bzero() for the libmd
bootstrap. Add it to -legacy if it is not found in /usr/include/strings.h.

Use tools/build/Makefile to install the headers into ${WORLDTMP}/legacy
instead. Compared to r336026 this has the minor advantage that it avoids
unncessary header installation when building the non-bootstrap libnv.

Add src.conf knob to disable the installation of /var/db/services.db
Default to leaving services.db in place, but allow the removal of the
file and its creation with a src.conf knob.
This file ends up being 2MB in size. For small systems this is a waste
of space but its a tradeoff.

This will disable the new LLVM_TARGET_ALL option which will only
enable the required target.
This only impacts the bootstrap compiler in WORLDTMP, not the target compiler
that will be installed.

LLVM_TARGET_* will auto be set based on LLVM_TARGET_ALL and MK_CLANG.
If LLVM_TARGET_ALL is disabled, during a cross-build, then SYSTEM_COMPILER
and SYSTEM_LINKER are auto disabled.
This option should be used by users rather than the per-arch LLVM_TARGET
options as it is simpler to maintain for them should the supported
target list change.
