9fa94e1c09 Turn on WITH_LLVM_CXXFILT by default
LLVM's demangler supports more modern C++ constructs such as lambdas and
unnamed types, and is actively maintained. The command line tool is
usable as a drop-in replacement for GNU c++filt, or elftoolchain's
cxxfilt. The latter is still available by using WITHOUT_LLVM_CXXFILT, if
needed.

07bab4417d Add WITH_LLVM_CXXFILT option to install llvm-cxxfilt as c++filt
Since elftoolchain's cxxfilt is rather far behind on features, and we
ran into several bugs, add an option to use llvm-cxxfilt as an drop-in
replacement.

It supports the same options as elftoolchain cxxfilt, though it doesn't
have support for old ARM (C++ Annotated Reference Manual, not the CPU)
and GNU v2 manglings. But these are irrelevant in 2020.

Note: as we already compile the required libraries as part of libllvm,
this will not add any significant build time either.

e307eb94ae loader: zfs should support bootonce an nextboot
bootonce feature is temporary, one time boot, activated by
"bectl activate -t BE", "bectl activate -T BE" will reset the bootonce flag.

By default, the bootonce setting is reset on attempt to boot and the next
boot will use previously active BE.

By setting zfs_bootonce_activate="YES" in rc.conf, the bootonce BE will
be set permanently active.

bootonce dataset name is recorded in boot pool labels, bootenv area.

in case of nextboot, the nextboot_enable boolean variable is recorded in
freebsd:nvstore nvlist, also stored in boot pool label bootenv area.
On boot, the loader will process /boot/nextboot.conf if nextboot_enable
is "YES", and will set nextboot_enable to "NO", preventing /boot/nextboot.conf
processing on next boot.

bootonce and nextboot features are usable in both UEFI and BIOS boot.

To use bootonce/nextboot features, the boot loader needs to be updated on disk;
if loader.efi is stored on ESP, then ESP needs to be updated and
for BIOS boot, stage2 (zfsboot or gptzfsboot) needs to be updated
(gpart or other tools).

At this time, only lua loader is updated.

1d2a0dce33 [PowerPC] Remove obsolete MK_LOADER_FORCE_LE
In D12421, the ability to compile stand/ in little-endian was added, with the
intention to extend loader.kboot to run in Petitboot.

However, no further work was done, as the kernel then gained self-execution
capabilities as Petitboot was taught to load FreeBSD kernels directly.

The FreeBSD installer on powerpc64 (on POWER8 and POWER9) uses
/boot/etc/kboot.conf instead of loader.

As this option does nothing but cause stand/ to be miscompiled and actively
causes confusion, remove it.

(I have a functioning petitboot loader in my local tree, however, it turned
out to be quite inconvient to use due to the current petitboot plugin design
so I put it on hold.)

37d72a9177 periodic.conf(5): don't truncate interface names reported by 420.status-network.
The daily periodic script, 420.status-network uses netstat(1) to report
interface status. By default, netstat(1) truncates interface names.

Add the '-W' flag (avoid truncating interface names) as the default for
'daily_status_network_netstat_flags' in periodic.conf(5).

The default 420.status-network command is now 'netstat -i -d -W -n'.

04bd07fd15 nsswitch.conf(5): recommend placing cache after files
When cache precedes files, and nscd is configured to allow negative caching,
commands like "pw groupadd" can fail. The sequence of events looks like:

1. A command like pkg(8) looks up the group, and finds it absent.
2. pkg invokes pw(8) to add the group
3. pkg queries the group, but nscd says it doesn't exist, since it has a
negative cache entry for that group.

7d4374f65f Turn MALLOC_PRODUCTION into a regular src.conf(5) option
For historical reasons, defining MALLOC_PRODUCTION in /etc/make.conf has
been used to turn off potentially expensive debug checks and statistics
gathering in the implementation of malloc(3).

It seems more consistent to turn this into a regular src.conf(5) option,
e.g. WITH_MALLOC_PRODUCTION / WITHOUT_MALLOC_PRODUCTION. This can then
be toggled similar to any other source build option, and turned on or
off by default for e.g. stable branches.

81884a247c savecore: accept device names without the /dev/ prefix
dumpon has accepted device names without the prefix ever since r291207.
Since dumpon and savecore are always paired, they ought to accept the same

savecore complaining that "Dump device does not exist".

21121f9bbe pf: Don't allocate per-table entry counters unless required.
pf by default does not do per-table address accounting unless the
"counters" keyword is specified in the corresponding pf.conf table
definition. Yet, we always allocate 12 per-CPU counters per table. For
large tables this carries a lot of overhead, so only allocate counters
when they will actually be used.

A further enhancement might be to use a dedicated UMA zone to allocate
counter arrays for table entries, since close to half of the structure
size comes from counter pointers. A related issue is the cost of
zeroing counters, since counter_u64_zero() calls smp_rendezvous() on
some architectures.

483d953a86 Initial support for bhyve save and restore.
Save and restore (also known as suspend and resume) permits a snapshot
to be taken of a guest's state that can later be resumed. In the
current implementation, bhyve(8) creates a UNIX domain socket that is
used by bhyvectl(8) to send a request to save a snapshot (and
optionally exit after the snapshot has been taken). A snapshot
currently consists of two files: the first holds a copy of guest RAM,
and the second file holds other guest state such as vCPU register
values and device model state.

To resume a guest, bhyve(8) must be started with a matching pair of
command line arguments to instantiate the same set of device models as
well as a pointer to the saved snapshot.

While the current implementation is useful for several uses cases, it
has a few limitations. The file format for saving the guest state is
tied to the ABI of internal bhyve structures and is not
self-describing (in that it does not communicate the set of device
models present in the system). In addition, the state saved for some
device models closely matches the internal data structures which might
prove a challenge for compatibility of snapshot files across a range
of bhyve versions. The file format also does not currently support
versioning of individual chunks of state. As a result, the current
file format is not a fixed binary format and future revisions to save
and restore will break binary compatiblity of snapshot files. The
goal is to move to a more flexible format that adds versioning,
etc. and at that point to commit to providing a reasonable level of
compatibility. As a result, the current implementation is not enabled
by default. It can be enabled via the WITH_BHYVE_SNAPSHOT=yes option
for userland builds, and the kernel option BHYVE_SHAPSHOT.

6467506baf Create /etc/os-release file.
Each boot, regenerate /var/run/os-release based on the currently running
system. Create a /etc/os-release symlink pointing to this file (so that this
doesn't create a new reason /etc can not be mounted read-only).

This is compatible with what other systems do and is what the sysutil/os-release
port attempted to do, but in an incomplete way. Linux, Solaris and DragonFly all
implement this natively as well. The complete standard can be found at
https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/os-release.html

Moving this to the base solves both the non-standard location problem with the
port, as well as the lack of update of this file on system update.

6ab18ea64d Build toolchain components as dynamically linked executables by default
Summary:
Historically, we have built toolchain components such as cc, ld, etc as
statically linked executables. One of the reasons being that you could
sometimes save yourself from botched upgrades, by e.g. recompiling a
"known good" libc and reinstalling it.

In this day and age, we have boot environments, virtual machine
snapshots, cloud backups, and other much more reliable methods to
restore systems to working order. So I think the time is ripe to flip
this default, and link the toolchain components dynamically, just like
almost all other executables on FreeBSD.

Maybe at some point they can even become PIE executables by default! :)

5fda0d60c1 add ability to set watchdog timeout for a shutdown
This change allows to specify a watchdog(9) timeout for a system
shutdown. The timeout is activated when the watchdogd daemon is
stopped. The idea is to a prevent any indefinite hang during late
stages of the shutdown. The feature is implemented in rc.d/watchdogd,
it builds upon watchdogd -x option.

Note that the shutdown timeout is not actiavted when the watchdogd
service is individually stopped by an operator. It is also not
activated for the 'shutdown' to the single-user mode. In those cases it
is assumed that the operator knows what they are doing and they have
means to recover the system should it hang.

Significant subchanges and implementation details:
- the argument to rc.shutdown, completely unused before, is assigned to
rc_shutdown variable that can be inspected by rc scripts
- init(8) passes "single" or "reboot" as the argument, this is not
  changed
- the argument is not mandatory and if it is not set then rc_shutdown is
  set to "unspecified"
- however, the default jail management scripts and jail configuration
examples have been updated to pass "jail" to rc.shutdown, just in case
- the new timeout can be set via watchdogd_shutdown_timeout rc option
- for consistency, the regular timeout can now be set via
  watchdogd_timeout rc option
- watchdogd_shutdown_timeout and watchdogd_timeout override timeout
  specifications in watchdogd_flags
- existing configurations, where the new rc options are not set, should
  keep working as before

I am not particularly wed to any of the implementation specifics.
I am open to changing or removing any of them as long as the provided
functionality is the same (or very close) to the proposed one.
For example, I think it can be implemented without using watchdogd -x,
by means of watchdog(1) alone. In that case there would be a small
window between stopping watchdogd and running watchdog, but I think that
that is acceptable.

504f5e294e swap_pager.c reserves 2 blocks for a bsd label. Change that 2 to the
expression howmany(BBSIZE, PAGE_SIZE), where BBSIZE is the size of the
boot block area. That can be less than 2 if PAGE_SIZE is big.

swapon(8) has an option to trim (delete) all the blocks of a device at
startup. However, if the first of those blocks is a bsd label, then
trimming those blocks is destructive. Change swapon to leave the
first BBSIZE bytes untrimmed.

Update manual pages to reflect changes in how swapon and how it may be
used, espeically in association with savecore.

f8ebf1cd7e fusefs: implement protocol 7.23's FUSE_WRITEBACK_CACHE option
As of protocol 7.23, fuse file systems can specify their cache behavior on a
per-mountpoint basis. If they set FUSE_WRITEBACK_CACHE in
fuse_init_out.flags, then they'll get the writeback cache. If not, then
they'll get the writethrough cache. If they set FOPEN_DIRECT_IO in every
FUSE_OPEN response, then they'll get no cache at all.

The old vfs.fusefs.data_cache_mode sysctl is ignored for servers that use
protocol 7.23 or later. However, it's retained for older servers,
especially for those running in jails that lack access to the new protocol.

This commit also fixes two other minor test bugs:
* WriteCluster:SetUp was using an uninitialized variable.
* Read.direct_io_pread wasn't verifying that the cache was actually
  bypassed.

that are already loaded.

https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-rc/2018-December/003899.html

Note that this script no longer reports if the module is already loaded,
but it could be argued this wasn't particularly useful information.

b0840a28f6 Connect lib/libomp to the build.
* Set MK_OPENMP to yes by default only on amd64, for now.
* Bump __FreeBSD_version to signal this addition.
* Ensure gcc's conflicting omp.h is not installed if MK_OPENMP is yes.
* Update OptionalObsoleteFiles.inc to cope with the conflicting omp.h.
* Regenerate src.conf(5) with new WITH/WITHOUT fragments.

1b35da5af7 Extend descriptions and comments about the need to create /etc/pf.conf.
FreeBSD removed the default /etc/pf.conf file in previous releases, but
the documentation kept mentioning it like any other file present in the
system. Change pf.conf(5) to mention in the description of the default
ruleset location that this file needs to be created manually. Also, the
default rc.conf file had it's comment extended a bit to let people know
that this file does not exist by default.
