b5edd6da96 Teach passwd about a new "mixpasswordcase" login.conf parameter. If this
parameter is missing, or specified as above, then passwd behaves as normal
when the user enters an all lower case password -- i.e., it prompts them
to use mixed case, and will only grudgingly accept an all lower case
password.

If you negate this entry in login.conf, with "mixpasswordcase@", then
passwd will allow all lower case passwords without complaining.

f506ed7467 There is a problem in that one cannot use ctype.h at the same time as parts
of the C++ stdlib. Our ctype.h uses symbols of the form _<X> to denote the
various character classes. Our ctype.h also extends the usual ctype.h
offering by adding the "_T" (special) class. Problem is parts of the STL
also use the symbol "_T" as its parameterized type. These two uses are
incompatible.

Thus change the form of the symbols used in ctype to something that fixes
the current problem and is less likely to cause conflicts in the future.

418d67b0d9 Revert part of the last commit, remove {g|s}etflags from the libc
interface, and statically link them to the programs using them.
These functions, upon reflection and discussion, are too generically
named for a library interface with such specific functionality.
Also the api that they use, whilst ok for private use, isn't good
enough for a libc function.

Additionally there were complications with the build/install-world
process. It depends heavily upon xinstall, which got broken by
the change in api, and caused bootstrap problems and general mayhem.

There is work in progress to address future problems that may be
caused by changes in install-chain tools, and better names for
{g|s}etflags can be derived when some future program requires them.
For now the code has been left in src/lib/libc/gen (it started off
in src/bin/ls).

It's important to provide library functions for manipulating file
flag strings if we ever want this interface to be adopted outside
of the source tree, but now isn't necessarily the right moment
with 4.0-release just around the corner.

18c0eeddf7 Historically file flags (schg, uschg, etc) have been converted from
string to u_long and back using two functions, flags_to_string and
string_to_flags, which co-existed with 'ls'. As time has progressed
more and more other tools have used these private functions to
manipulate the file flags.

Recently I moved these functions from /usr/src/bin/ls to libutil,
but after some discussion with bde it's been decided that they
really ought to go in libc.

There are two already existing libc functions for manipulating file
modes: setmode and getmode. In keeping with these flags_to_string
has been renamed getflags and string_to_flags to setflags.

The manual page could probably be improved upon ;)

aa52177fb5 Dedocument one of the BUGS listed in the last commit. The bug (needless
calculation of line numbers) never existed and the two bugs that made me
think it existed have been fixed (see recent commits about this date to
linenum.c:r.1.3 and ch.c:r.1.8 fixing broken line-number buffering and
braindead algorithms respectively).

e965d6a895 Rather than use an LRU-ordered circular list to store buffered data,
simply keep an index into the last access on the circular list and begin
searches at that point. An LRU list is inappropriate here since the
vast majority of accesses will occur in the same order that the list
is created in. The only case where an LRU is remotely useful here is when
reading from a file and the user is jumping to randomish positions and
constantly returning to some central position. Even for this case it is
such a small optimization as not to be noticed in an interactive program
such as more(1).

This change results in a _tremendously_ noticable speed-up when reading long
files through a pipe (where long = ~200k, machine = ~2.5h single-disk
worldstone).

6e2578e4c4 Revert the libcrypt/libmd stuff back to how it was. This should not have
happened as it was working around problems elsewhere (ie: binutils/ld
not doing the right thing according to the ELF design). libcrypt has
been adjusted to not need the runtime -lmd. It's still not quite right
(ld is supposed to work damnit) but at least it doesn't impact all the

9a602acc36 Replace the -q option to pwd_mkdb with a test for PW_SCAN_BIG_IDS in
the environment. This allows big ID warnings to be suppressed for
vipw and chpass as well.

Since the environment variable test is only performed for callers
of pw_scan() that do not set pw_big_ids_warning, the test can still
be overriden. Currently, chpass and pwd_mkdb are the only users
of pw_scan() and neither of them overrides the environment variable
test.

923502ff91 useracc() the prequel:
Merge the contents (less some trivial bordering the silly comments)
of <vm/vm_prot.h> and <vm/vm_inherit.h> into <vm/vm.h>. This puts
the #defines for the vm_inherit_t and vm_prot_t types next to their
typedefs.

This paves the road for the commit to follow shortly: change
useracc() to use VM_PROT_{READ|WRITE} rather than B_{READ|WRITE}
as argument.

c3584b3b4e Allow a user specified parameter to 'yyparse()', in a manner similar to
that used by bison. The names are consistent with the bison implementation
but this one also allows the type of the parameter to be specified.

For a desired prototype of:

	int yyparse __P((struct yyresult *));

and compile like this:

	yacc -dv grammar.y
	cc -c -DYYPARSE_PARAM_TYPE="struct yyresult *" \
	      -DYYPARSE_PARAM="parm" y.tab.c

and use like this:

	${
	#include "usrtypes.h"
	#include "usrproto.h"
	}$

	%token NUMBER

	%%

	goal : NUMBER
		{
		parm->value = yylval;
		} ;

If YYPARSE_PARAM_TYPE isn't specified then "void *" is the default type.
If YYPARSE_PARAM is not specified then the generated code behaves exactly
as traditional byacc.

4893ef0bc8 Add -c, -s, and -W options to nfsstat. Improve interval output and add
wide-format option to get client-side ops and cache statistics on a single
    line.

    Change client side ops to the number of attempted ops, whether cached or
    not, rather then just the number of rpc's that went through to the server.
    This brings nfsstat inline with systat -vm and vmstat and reduces
    confusion. The combined cache percentage stats now available via
    'nfsstat -cW 1' becomes very useful.
