these are quite extensive additions to the ipfw code. they include a change to the API because the old method was broken, but the user view is kept the same. The new code allows a particular match to skip forward to a particular line number, so that blocks of rules can be used without checking all the intervening rules. There are also many more ways of rejecting connections especially TCP related, and many many more ... see the man page for a complete description.

to order and delete rules. Rules are tried in increasing order, and the

|

Here are some important points to consider when designing your

rules:

|
|
There is one kind of packet that the firewall will always discard,
|
|
that is an IP fragment with a fragment offset of one.
|
|
This is a valid packet, but it only has one use, to try to circumvent
|
|
firewalls.
|

If you are logged in over a network, loading the LKM version of
|
|

is probably not as straightforward as you would think.

A divert socket bound to the specified port will receive all packets diverted

wasn't compiled with divert socket support, diverted packets are dropped.
