b90270a146 1. Add a new option, --run-updates, to always or never run the newalises,
pwd_mkdb, etc. updates at the end of the comparison.

2. Add an update to the end to handle /etc/localtime, if it exists.
If /var/db/zoneinfo exists, automatically update /etc/localtime,
which should (hopefully) be safe to do. If not, prompt the user
   to run tzsetup.

3. Update run_it_now(), the function that handles input for the updates,
to make sure that we got a valid answer, and to handle the --run-updates
   option if supplied.

8d1a3b6998 Add a "kern.features.ata_cam" sysctl in the kernel when the ATA_CAM kernel
option is defined. This sysctl can be queried by feature_present(3).

Query for this feature in /sbin/atacontrol and /usr/sbin/burncd.
If these utilities detect that ATA_CAM is enabled, then these utilities
will error out. These utilities are compatible with the old ATA
driver, but are incomptible with the new ATA_CAM driver. By erroring out,
we give end-users an idea as to what remedies to use, and reduce the need for them
to file PR's. For atacontrol, camcontrol must be used instead,
and for burncd, alternative utilties from the ports collection must be used
such as sysutils/cdrtools.

In future, maybe someone can re-write burncd to work with ATA_CAM,
but at least for now, we give a somewhat useful error message to end users.

9f365aa1d6 Get rid of major/minor number distinction.
As of FreeBSD 6, devices can only be opened through devfs. These device
nodes don't have major and minor numbers anymore. The st_rdev field in
struct stat is simply based a copy of st_ino.

Simply display device numbers as hexadecimal, using "%#jx". This is
allowed by POSIX, since it explicitly states things like the following
(example taken from ls(1)):

"If the file is a character special or block special file, the
size of the file may be replaced with implementation-defined
information associated with the device in question."

This makes the output of these commands more compact. For example, ls(1)
now uses approximately four columns less. While there, simplify the
column length calculation from ls(1) by calling snprintf() with a NULL
buffer.

Don't be afraid; if needed one can still obtain individual major/minor
numbers using stat(1).

b08d3049f0 Improve battery capacity reporting
When a status pointer is passed in mfi_dcmd_command does not return an
errno (if the ioctl is successful), so move the test for NO_HW_PRESENT
outside of the error case. This should fix incorrect reporting for
systems with a dead or no battery.

Additionally, handle error codes other than NO_HW_PRESENT by omitting
the battery capacity display. LSI's supercap-based parts (CV series)
report their data using the same interface as battery-based parts,
except that they do not include the capacity stats (state of charge,
cumulative charge cycles, etc.)

852f933d9d Sync makefs(8) ISO 9660 support with NetBSD:

to the the following 37-byte fields in the PVD:
copyright_file_id, abstract_file_id, bibliographic_file_id

This causes, among other unwanted results the reserved4 field to be

this field muse be zero. As a result, all FreeBSD distribution
images created with makefs have not been 100% valid ISO9660 files.

3724189620 - Improve interface list handling. The rtadvd(8) now supports dynamically-
added/removed interfaces in a more consistent manner and reloading the
  configuration file.

- Implement burst unsolicited RA sending into the internal RA timer framework
when AdvSendAdvertisements and/or configuration entries are changed as
described in RFC 4861 6.2.4. This fixes issues that make termination of the
rtadvd(8) daemon take very long time.

An interface now has three internal states, UNCONFIGURED, TRANSITIVE, or
CONFIGURED, and the burst unsolicited sending happens in TRANSITIVE.
  See rtadvd.h for the details.

- rtadvd(8) now accepts non-existent interfaces as well in the command line.

- Add control socket support and rtadvctl(8) utility to show the RA information
in rtadvd(8). Dumping by SIGUSR1 has been removed in favor of it.

8f64015c0e Use full buffer size in read(2) call, there is no need to preserve the
last byte of the buffer.

Since we call refresh_device_tbl() for any devctl event types - no need
to check the first byte of buffer. Remove these checks.

Also remove logging for the case of unknown devd message. It incorrectly
triggers when all devctl events are not fit into one buffer and part of
unread data will be read in the next pass.

When length of data readed from devctl is equal to sizeof(buf), then try
to read from socket again, to read full data.

484b5c257d Add support for using mtree(5) manifest files to define the image
to be created. The support is based on mtree version 2.0, as used
in libarchive, but adds new features on top of it.

The current implementation is fully functional, but is envisioned
to grow at least the following additional features over time:
o Add support for the /include special command so that manifest
files can be constructed using includable fragments.
o Add support specifying a search path to locate content files.
o Content file filters: commands that provide file contents on
    stdout.

The manifest file eliminates the need to first construct a tree
as root in order to create an image and allows images (releases)
to be created directly from object trees and/or source trees.

heading "statd/lockd startup failure" by george+freebsd at m5p dot com.
The problem is that the first combination of {udp,tcp X ipv4,ipv6}
would select a port# dynamically, but one of the other three combinations
would have that port# already in use. The patch is somewhat involved
because it was requested by dougb@ that the four combinations use the
same port# wherever possible. The patch splits the create_service()
function into two functions. The first goes as far as bind(2) in a
loop for up to GETPORT_MAXTRY - 1 times, attempting to use the same port#
for all four cases. If these attempts fail, the last attempt allows
the 4 cases to use different port #s. After this function has succeeded,
the second function, called complete_service(), does the rest of what
create_service() did.
The three daemons mountd, rpc.lockd and rpc.statd all have a
create_service() function that is patched in a similar way. However,
create_service() has non-trivial differences for the three daemons
that made it impractical to share the same functions between them.

Add some additional empty string checks for IPv4 and try to configure
a netmask along with the address rather than doing things twice.

Contrary to AUTO-DHCP, IPv6-SLAAC will accept static configuration
as well, which we will use at least for resolv.conf currently and
if we were given a static address configure that as an alias as well.

The pc-sysinstaller changes going along were committed to PC-BSD as r10773.

- netconfig_ipv4 doing DHCP and static IPv4 addresses, and
- netconfig_ipv6 doing rtsol and static IPv6 addresses,

Both DHCP and rtsol (in the future) might update resolv.conf already so
we seed ourselves from that file if available.

7449d2f5cb Make freebsd-update(8) smarter in how it handles $FreeBSD$ tags in
configuration files.

If the current file differs from the canonical version from the old release
only due to differences in the $FreeBSD$ tag (which can happen if the system
was installed from source code, depending on how the src tree was checked out)
then freebsd-update will treat the file as "unmodified" and silently update
it to the "clean" version in the new release.

If the only change being made to a configuration file is in the $FreeBSD$
tag (e.g., for any configuration files which have been modified locally, now
that we're using SVN and the $FreeBSD$ tag changes when a branch is created),
freebsd-update will no longer print the diff and prompt "Does this look
reasonable (y/n)?".

71a19bdc64 Commit the support for removing cpumask_t and replacing it directly with
cpuset_t objects.
That is going to offer the underlying support for a simple bump of
MAXCPU and then support for number of cpus > 32 (as it is today).

Right now, cpumask_t is an int, 32 bits on all our supported architecture.
cpumask_t on the other side is implemented as an array of longs, and
easilly extendible by definition.

The architectures touched by this commit are the following:
- amd64
- i386
- pc98
- arm
- ia64
- XEN

while the others are still missing.
Userland is believed to be fully converted with the changes contained
here.

Some technical notes:
- This commit may be considered an ABI nop for all the architectures
different from amd64 and ia64 (and sparc64 in the future)
- per-cpu members, which are now converted to cpuset_t, needs to be
accessed avoiding migration, because the size of cpuset_t should be
  considered unknown
- size of cpuset_t objects is different from kernel and userland (this is
primirally done in order to leave some more space in userland to cope
with KBI extensions). If you need to access kernel cpuset_t from the
userland please refer to example in this patch on how to do that
correctly (kgdb may be a good source, for example).
- Support for other architectures is going to be added soon
- Only MAXCPU for amd64 is bumped now

The patch has been tested by sbruno and Nicholas Esborn on opteron
4 x 12 pack CPUs. More testing on big SMP is expected to came soon.
pluknet tested the patch with his 8-ways on both amd64 and i386.
