Remove the 'name' member from rte_pci_driver and move to generic
rte_driver.
Most of the PMD drivers were initially using DRIVER_REGISTER_PCI(<name>..)
as well as assigning a name to eth_driver.pci_drv.name member.
In this patch, only the original DRIVER_REGISTER_PCI(<name>..) name has
been populated into the rte_driver.name member - assignments through
eth_driver has been removed.

Simplify crypto and ethdev pci drivers init by using newly introduced
init macros and helpers.
Those drivers then don't need to register as "rte_driver"s anymore.
Exceptions:
- virtio and mlx* use RTE_INIT directly as they have custom initialization
steps.
- VDEV devices are not modified - they continue to use PMD_REGISTER_DRIVER.
Update documentation for replacing an example referring to
PMD_REGISTER_DRIVER.

As discussed in the past release, driver names are modified
to be more consistent, and the future driver should follow
this new convention.
Driver names consist of:
"driver category"_"driver folder name"_"optional extra name".
For example:
- Crypto null driver -> "crypto_null"
- Network IXGBE VF driver -> "net_ixgbe_vf"

Null-checking vsi suggests that it may be null, but it
has been dereferenced before null-checking. So move the
check to before the assignment statement using the pointer.

Modify the PMD_REGISTER_DRIVER macro, adding a name argument to it. The
addition of a name argument creates a token that can be used for subsequent
macros in the creation of unique symbol names to export additional bits of
information for use by the pmdinfogen tool. For example:
PMD_REGISTER_DRIVER(ena_driver, ena);
registers the ena_driver struct as it always did, and creates a symbol
const char this_pmd_name0[] __attribute__((used)) = "ena";
which pmdinfogen can search for and extract. The subsequent macro
DRIVER_REGISTER_PCI_TABLE(ena, ena_pci_id_map);
creates a symbol const char ena_pci_tbl_export[] __attribute__((used)) =
"ena_pci_id_map";
Which allows pmdinfogen to find the pci table of this driver
Using this pattern, we can export arbitrary bits of information.
pmdinfo uses this information to extract hardware support from an object
file and create a json string to make hardware support info discoverable
later.

For all drivers that currently implement xstats, the id field in the
rte_eth_stats_name structure equals the entry's array index. This
patch eliminates the redundant id field as a direct index lookup is
faster than a search for the matching id field.

Previously, if an adminq message is sent successfully, but no response is
received, function "i40evf_execute_vf_cmd" will return without error.
The root cause is value "err" is overwritten. This patch fixes this by
ensuring the value of err is set appropriately for each cmd.

The current extended ethernet statistics fetching involve doing several
string operations, which causes performance issues if there are lots of
statistics and/or network interfaces. This patch changes the test-pmd
and proc_info applications to use the new xstats API, and removes
deprecated code associated with the old API.

On hosts running a non-DPDK PF driver, the VF has no means of changing
the HW CRC strip setting for a RX queue. It's implicitly enabled.
This patch checks if the host is running a non-DPDK PF kernel driver,
and returns an error, if HW CRC stripping was not requested in the port
configuration.

In i40evf_config_vlan_pvid the check for NULL for the dev value is
unnecessary, since this value is passed in from the ethdev API which
will ensure that a valid rte_eth_dev structure is provided.
Furthermore, all code paths leading to this function already use the
dev value.

The issue is the VF's link speed kept as 10G and status always was up.
It did not change even the physical link's status changed.
This patch fixes this issue to make VF's link info consistent with
physical link.

This patch redesigns the API to set the link speed/s configuration
of an ethernet port. Specifically:
- it allows to define a set of advertised speeds for
auto-negociation.
- it allows to disable link auto-negociation (single fixed speed).
- default: auto-negociate all supported speeds.
A flag autoneg in struct rte_eth_link indicates if link speed was a
result of auto-negociation or was fixed by configuration.

When Linux PF and DPDK VF are used for i40e PMD, when a PF reset occurs,
an interrupt will go via adminq event to inform the VF of the reset.
A callback mechanism is introduced for the VF to allow it to invoke a
registered callback when PF reset happens.
Users can register a callback for this interrupt event using:
rte_eth_dev_callback_register(portid,
RTE_ETH_EVENT_INTR_RESET,

Currently, i40evf PMD uses a global static buffer to send virtchnl
commands to host driver. It is shared by multiple VFs.
This patch changed to allocate a virtchnl cmd buffer for each VF.

Add a new API rte_eth_dev_get_supported_ptypes to query what packet types
can be filled by a given device. The device should be already started or
its PMD RX burst function already decided, since the packet types supported
may vary depending on RX function.

This patch implemented the ops of adding and removing mac
address in i40evf driver. Functions are assigned like:
.mac_addr_add = i40evf_add_mac_addr,
.mac_addr_remove = i40evf_del_mac_addr,
To support multiple mac addresses setting, this patch also
extended the mac addresses adding and deletion when device
start and stop. Each VF can have a maximum of 64 mac
addresses.

RX control register read/write functions are added, as directly
read/write may fail when under stress small traffic. After the

When dev_stop is called in i40evf pmd driver, queues are switched off
to stop receiving and transmitting. But the mac address of this VF
still exists in VEB switch.
To stop the traffic from VSI level, the mac address need to be removed
too. Then the bandwidth for this SRIOV VSI can be freed.
This patch fix this issue.

Following the same approach taken with dev_started field
in rte_eth_dev_data structure, this patch adds two new fields
in it, rx_queue_state and tx_queue_state arrays, which track
which queues have been started and which not.
This is important to avoid trying to start/stop twice a queue,
which will result in undefined behaviour
(which may cause RX/TX disruption).
Mind that only the PMDs which have queue_start/stop functions
have been changed to update this field, as the functions will
check the queue state before switching it.

The patch enables rx interrupt support on i40e VF and some necessary
change on PF IOV mode to support VF.
On PF side, running in IOV mode via uio won't allow rx interrupt
which is exclusive with mbox interrupt in single vector competition.
On VF side, one single vector is shared for all the rx queues.

If DPDK is used on VF while the host is using Linux Kernel driver
as PF driver on FVL NIC, then VF Rx is reported only in batches of
4 packets. It is due to the kernel driver assumes VF driver is working
in interrupt mode, but DPDK VF is working in Polling mode.
This patch fixes this issue by using the V1.1 virtual channel with
Linux i40e PF driver.

This patch fixes the issue:
Testpmd crashed with Segmentation fault when setup tx queues on vf
Steps for reproduce:
- create one vf device from i40e driver
- bind vf device to igb_uio and start testpmd
With debugging tools, we saw the struct i40e_vf is cleared after
memcpy(&dev->data->dev_conf, dev_conf, sizeof(dev->data->dev_conf)) in
rte_eth_dev_configure, which should not happen, and the pointer to
i40e_vf isn't in the range of i40e_adapter.
The root cause is the dev_private_size in i40e virtual function driver
struct rte_i40evf_pmd was set incorrectly.

I40e VF driver uses the num_queue_pairs in vf structure to construct
queue index look up table. When the nb_rx_queue is less than nb_tx_queue,
num_queue_pairs is equal to nb_tx_queue. It will make the table use
invalid queue index, then application cannot poll packets on these queues.
This patch also moves the inline function i40e_align_floor from
i40e_ethdev.c to i40e_ethdev.h.

To support querying hash key size per port, an new field of
'hash_key_size' was added in 'struct rte_eth_dev_info' for storing
hash key size in bytes.
The correct hash key size in bytes should be filled into the

It configures specific registers to enable double vlan stripping
on RX side and insertion on TX side.
The RX descriptors will be parsed, the vlan tags and flags will be
saved to corresponding mbuf fields if vlan tag is detected.
The TX descriptors will be configured according to the
configurations in mbufs, to trigger the hardware insertion of
double vlan tags for each packets sent out.

Upcoming drivers will need to be able to support other bus types.
This is a transparent change to how struct eth_driver is initialized.
It has not function or ABI layout impact, but makes adding a later

It wouldn't check the configured maximum packet length, and then
the scattered receiving function wouldn't be selected at all even
if it wants to receive a jumbo frame. The fix is to select the
correct RX function according to the configurations.
