1c839246f9 examples/multi_process: make RSS and checksum optional
The default values of rx mq_mode and rx offloads for port
will cause symmetric_mp startup failure if the port do not
support rss or csum. This patch makes the app to reconfigure
the NIC without them. Only quit the app if the second
reconfiguration fails.

69f9d8aa35 examples/multi_process: fix Rx packets distribution
MP servers distributes Rx packets between clients according to
round-robin scheme.

Current implementation always started packets distribution from
the first client. That procedure resulted in uniform distribution
in cases when Rx packets number was around clients number
multiplication. However, if RX burst repeatedly returned single
packet, round-robin scheme would not work because all packets
were assigned to the first client only.

The patch does not restart packets distribution from
the first client.
Packets distribution always continues to the next client.

9a212dc06c doc: use code snippets in sample app guides
Currently the sample app user guides use hard coded code snippets,
this patch changes these to use literalinclude which will dynamically
update the snippets as changes are made to the code.
This was introduced in commit 413c75c33c ("doc: show how to include
code in guides"). Comments within the sample apps were updated to
accommodate this as part of this patch. This will help to ensure that
the code within the sample app user guides is up to date and not out

27b549c12d examples/multi_process: fix build on Ubuntu 20.04
Two warnings are reported by gcc 9.3.0 on Ubuntu 20.04.

When producing a printable mac address the buffer was appropriately sized
for holding the mac address exactly, but the actual snprintf included a
'\n' character at the end, which means that the snprintf technically is
getting truncated i.e. the \n would not be added due to lack of space.
This gets flagged as a problem by modern versions of gcc, e.g. on Ubuntu
20.04.

main.c:77:37: warning: ‘__builtin___snprintf_chk’ output truncated
before the last format character [-Wformat-truncation=]
   77 | "%02x:%02x:%02x:%02x:%02x:%02x\n",
      | ^

Since the \n is getting stripped anyway, we can fix the issue by just
removing it. In the process we can switch to using the standard ethernet
address formatting function from rte_ether.h.

The other warning is about possible string truncation when getting the
RX queue name:

In file included from init.c:36:
init.c: In function ‘init’:
../shared/common.h:38:28: warning: ‘%u’ directive output may be truncated
writing between 1 and 10 bytes into a region of size 8
  [-Wformat-truncation=]
   38 | #define MP_CLIENT_RXQ_NAME "MProc_Client_%u_RX"
      | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
../shared/common.h:52:35: note: in expansion of macro ‘MP_CLIENT_RXQ_NAME’
   52 |  snprintf(buffer, sizeof(buffer), MP_CLIENT_RXQ_NAME, id);
      | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is a false positive, as the value of the "id" is limited to 255,
being stored in the app as a uint8_t value, removing the possibility of
the %u being replaced by anything other then 3 characters max (rather than
up to 10 as thought by the compiler). Therefore, the warning can be easily
removed by changing the type of the "id" parameter to the local function
from "unsigned" to "uint8_t" also, ensuring the compiler is aware of the
range limit.

6b124806a3 examples/multi_process: fix client crash with sparse ports
The mp_client crashes if run on Azure or any system where ethdev
ports are owned. In that case, the tx_buffer and tx_stats for the
real port were initialized correctly, but the wrong port was used.

For example if the server has Ports 3 and 5. Then calling
rte_eth_tx_buffer_flush on any other buffer will dereference null
because the tx buffer for that port was not allocated.

Also:
   - the flush code is common enough that it should not be marked
     unlikely
   - combine conditions to reduce indentation

e9c6594264 examples: detect default build directory
Most examples have in their makefiles a default RTE_TARGET directory to be
used in case RTE_TARGET is not set. Rather than just using a hard-coded
default, we can instead detect what the build directory is relative to

This fixes a potential issue for anyone who continues to build using
"make install T=x86_64-native-linuxapp-gcc" and skips setting RTE_TARGET
explicitly, instead relying on the fact that they were building in a
directory which corresponded to the example default path - which was

05f1d6842f examples/multi_process: add hotplug sample
The sample code demonstrates device (ethdev only) management
at a multi-process environment. The user can attach/detach a
device on primary process and see it is synced on secondary
process automatically.

How to start?
./hotplug_mp --proc-type=auto

Command Line Example:

>help
>list

/* attach a pci device */
> attach 0000:81:00.0

/* detach the pci device */
> detach 0000:81:00.0

/* attach a vdev af_packet device */
> attach net_af_packet,iface=eth0

/* detach the vdev af_packet device */
> detach net_af_packet

323e7b667f ethdev: make default behavior CRC strip on Rx
Removed DEV_RX_OFFLOAD_CRC_STRIP offload flag.
Without any specific Rx offload flag, default behavior by PMDs is to
strip CRC.

PMDs that support keeping CRC should advertise DEV_RX_OFFLOAD_KEEP_CRC
Rx offload capability.

Applications that require keeping CRC should check PMD capability first
and if it is supported can enable this feature by setting
DEV_RX_OFFLOAD_KEEP_CRC in Rx offload flag in rte_eth_dev_configure()

3504db92b5 examples/multi_process: remove l2fwd fork example
l2fwd_fork relies on a multiprocess model that DPDK does not support
(calling rte_eal_init() before fork()), in particular in light of recent
EAL changes like the multiproess communication channel.

This example can mislead users into thinking this is a supported
multiprocess model; hence, this commit removes this example and the
corresponding user guide documentation as well.

This patch was made following this mailing list discussion:

ed3077c165 examples: make Linux environment check consistent

4f5701f28b examples: fix RSS hash function configuration
ethdev layer introduced checks for application requested RSS hash
functions and returns error for ones unsupported by hardware

This check breaks some sample applications which blindly configures
RSS hash functions without checking underlying hardware support.

Updated examples to mask out unsupported RSS has functions during device
configuration.
Prints a log if configuration values updated by this check.

ab3ce1e0c1 ethdev: remove old offload API
In DPDK 17.11, the ethdev offloads API has changed:
commit cba7f53b71 ("ethdev: introduce Tx queue offloads API")
commit ce17eddefc ("ethdev: introduce Rx queue offloads API")
The new API is documented in the programmer's guide:
	http://doc.dpdk.org/guides/prog_guide/poll_mode_drv.html#hardware-offload

For reminder, the main concepts in the new API were:
	- All offloads are disabled by default
	- Distinction between per port and per queue offloads.

The transition bits are now removed:
	- Translation of the old API in ethdev
	- rte_eth_conf.rxmode.ignore_offload_bitfield
	- ETH_TXQ_FLAGS_IGNORE

The old API bits are now removed:
	- Rx per-port rte_eth_conf.rxmode.[bit-fields]
	- Tx per-queue rte_eth_txconf.txq_flags
	- ETH_TXQ_FLAGS_NO*

fa47405cc1 ethdev: remove experimental flag of ports enumeration
The basic operations for ports enumeration should not be
considered as experimental in DPDK 18.05.

The iterator RTE_ETH_FOREACH_DEV was introduced in DPDK 17.05.
It uses the function the rte_eth_find_next_owned_by() to get
only ownerless ports. Its API can be considered stable.
So the flag experimental is removed from rte_eth_find_next_owned_by().

The flag experimental is removed from rte_eth_dev_count_avail()
which is the new name of the old function rte_eth_dev_count().

The flag experimental is set to rte_eth_dev_count_total()
in the .c file for consistency with the declaration in the .h file.

A lot of internal applications are fixed to not allow experimental API.
