78639d5456 vhost: introduce async enqueue registration API
Performing large memory copies usually takes up a major part of CPU
cycles and becomes the hot spot in vhost-user enqueue operation. To
offload the large copies from CPU to the DMA devices, asynchronous
APIs are introduced, with which the CPU just submits copy jobs to
the DMA but without waiting for its copy completion. Thus, there is
no CPU intervention during data transfer. We can save precious CPU
cycles and improve the overall throughput for vhost-user based
applications. This patch introduces registration/un-registration
APIs for vhost async data enqueue operation. Together with the
registration APIs implementations, data structures and the prototype
of the async callback functions required for async enqueue data path
are also defined.

bedf87c521 vhost: do not treat empty socket message as error
According to recvmsg() specification, 0 is a valid
return code when client is disconnecting.
Therefore, it should not be reported as error, unless there
are other dependencies that require message to not be empty.
But there are none, since the next immediate caller of recvmsg()
reports "vhost peer closed" info (not error) when message is empty.

This patch changes return code check for recvmsg() so that
misleading error message is not printed when the code is 0.

499fd8e5b8 vhost: fix crash on port deletion
The vhost_user_read_cb() and rte_vhost_driver_unregister()
can be called at the same time by 2 threads. Eg thread1
calls vhost_user_read_cb() and removes the vsocket from
conn_list, then thread2 calls rte_vhost_driver_unregister()
and frees the vsocket since it is NOT in the conn_list.
So thread1 will access invalid memory when trying to
reconnect.

The fix is to move the "removing of vsocket from conn_list"
to end of the vhost_user_read_cb(), then avoid the race
condition.

The core trace is:
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

5efb18e85f vhost: fix deadlock on port deletion
If the vhost-user application (e.g. OVS) deletes the vhost-user
port while Qemu sends a vhost-user request, a deadlock can
happen if the request handler tries to acquire vhost-user's

This patch prevents the deadlock by making
rte_vhost_driver_unregister() to release the mutex and try
again if a request is being handled to give a chance to
the request handler to complete.

74f45f872c vhost: add dynamic logging system
Currently there are a couple of limitations on the logging system: Most
of the logs are compiled out and both datapath and controlpath logs
share the same loglevel.

This patch tries to help fix that situation by:
- Splitting control plane and data plane logs
- Making control plane logs dynamic while keeping data plane logs
  compiled out by default for log levels lower than the INFO.

As a result, two macros are introduced:
- VHOST_LOG_CONFIG(LEVEL, ...): Config path logging. Level can be
  dynamically controlled by "lib.vhost.config"

- VHOST_LOG_DATA(LEVEL, ...): Data path logging. Level can be
  dynamically controlled by "lib.vhost.data". Every log macro with a
  level lower than RTE_LOG_DP_LEVEL (which defaults to RTE_LOG_INFO)
  will be compiled out.

c3ff0ac70a vhost: improve performance by supporting large buffer
The rte_vhost_dequeue_burst supports two ways of dequeuing data.
If the data fits into a buffer, then all data is copied and a
single linear buffer is returned. Otherwise it allocates
additional mbufs and chains them together to return a multiple
segments mbuf.

While that covers most use cases, it forces applications that
need to work with larger data sizes to support multiple segments
mbufs. The non-linear characteristic brings complexity and
performance implications to the application.

To resolve the issue, add support to attach external buffer
to a pktmbuf and let the host provide during registration if
attaching an external buffer to pktmbuf is supported and if
only linear buffer are supported.

054617fd82 vhost: fix deadlock in driver unregister
In rte_vhost_driver_unregister(), the connection fd is
removed from the fdset using fdset_try_del(). Call to
this function may fail if the corresponding fd is in
busy state, indicating that event dispatcher is
executing the read or write callback on this fd.
When it happens, rte_vhost_driver_unregister() keeps
trying to remove the fd from the set until it is no
more busy.

This situation is causing a deadlock, because
rte_vhost_driver_unregister() keeps trying to remove
the fd from the set with vhost_user.mutex held, while
the callback executed by the dispatcher,
vhost_user_read_cb(), also takes this mutex at
numerous places.

The fix consists in releasing vhost_user.mutex between
each retry in vhost_driver_unregister().

In case the user passes the RTE_VHOST_USER_POSTCOPY_SUPPORT

2042cf7194 vhost: clear out unused SCM_RIGHTS file descriptors
The number of file descriptors received is not stored by vhost_user.c.
vhost_user_set_mem_table() assumes that memory.nregions matches the
number of file descriptors received, but nothing guarantees this:

  for (i = 0; i < memory.nregions; i++)
      close(pmsg->fds[i]);

Another questionable code snippet is:

  case VHOST_USER_SET_LOG_FD:
      close(msg.fds[0]);

If not enough file descriptors were received then fds[] contains
uninitialized data from the stack (see read_fd_message()). This might
cause non-vhost file descriptors to be closed if the uninitialized data
happens to match.

Refactoring vhost_user.c to pass around and check the number of file
descriptors everywhere would make the code more complex. It is simpler
for read_fd_message() to set unused elements in fds[] to -1. This way
close(-1) is called and no harm is done.

1c717af4c6 vhost: add flag for built-in virtio driver
The librte_vhost API is used in two ways:
1. As a vhost net device backend via rte_vhost_enqueue/dequeue_burst().
2. As a library for implementing vhost device backends.

There is no distinction between the two at the API level or in the
librte_vhost implementation. For example, device state is kept in
"struct virtio_net" regardless of whether this is actually a net device
backend or whether the built-in virtio_net.c driver is in use.

The virtio_net.c driver should be a librte_vhost API client just like
the vhost-scsi code and have no special access to vhost.h internals.
Unfortunately, fixing this requires significant librte_vhost API
changes.

This patch takes a different approach: keep the librte_vhost API
unchanged but track whether the built-in virtio_net.c driver is in use.
See the next patch for a bug fix that requires knowledge of whether
virtio_net.c is in use.

002d6a7e55 vhost: add flag to enable IOMMU support
Qemu versions from v2.7.0 to v2.9.0 have their reply-ack protocol
feature implementation broken with multiqueue. The reply-ack
protocol feature is optional except for IOMMU feature.

This patch introduce a new RTE_VHOST_USER_IOMMU_SUPPORT flag to
enable VIRTIO_F_IOMMU_PLATFORM virtio feature.

By default, the IOMMU support is now disabled.

efba12a78d vhost: add user callbacks for socket open/close
Added new callbacks to notify about socket connection status.
As destroy_device is used for virtqueue processing *pause* as well as
connection close, the user has no distinction between those.

Consider the following scenario:
rte_vhost: received SET_VRING_BASE message,
           calling destroy_device() as usual

user: end-user asks to remove the device (together with socket file),
       OK, device is not *in use* - that's NOT the behavior we want
       calling rte_vhost_driver_unregister() etc.

Instead of changing new_device/destroy_device callbacks and breaking
the ABI, a set of new functions new_connection/destroy_connection
has been added.
