45bba02c95 net/af_xdp: support need wakeup feature
This patch enables need_wakeup flag for Tx and fill rings, when this
flag is set by the driver, it means that the userspace application has
to explicitly wake up the kernel Rx or kernel Tx processing by issuing
a syscall. Poll() can wake up both and sendto() or its alternatives
will wake up Tx processing only.

This feature is to provide efficient support for case that application
and driver executing on the same core.

a3f5252e5c net/pcap: enable infinitely Rx a pcap file
It can be useful to use pcap files for some rudimental performance
testing. This patch enables this functionality in the pcap driver.

At a high level, this works by creating a ring of sufficient size to
store the packets in the pcap file passed to the application. When the
rx function for this mode is called, packets are dequeued from the ring
for use by the application and also enqueued back on to the ring to be
"received" again.

A tx_drop mode is also added since transmitting to a tx_pcap file isn't
desirable at a high traffic rate.

Jumbo frames are not supported in this mode. When filling the ring at rx
queue setup time, the presence of multi segment mbufs is checked for.
The PMD will exit on detection of these multi segment mbufs.

Add a global function in the PMD which dumps debug information to

bd282035b3 net/ixgbevf: add full link status check option
To get the VF's link status by calling 'rte_eth_link_get_nowait()', the
VF not only check PF's physical link status, but also check the mailbox
running status. And mailbox checking will generate mailbox interrupt in
PF, it will be worse if many VFs are running in the system, the PF will
have to handle many interrrupts.

Normally, checking the PF's physical link status is enough for nowait.
For different scenarios, adding an 'pflink_fullchk' option to control
whether to check the link fully or not.

5e74137765 ethdev: add API to read device clock
Add rte_eth_read_clock to read the raw clock of a device.

The main use is to get the device clock conversion co-efficients to be
able to translate the raw clock of the timestamp field of the pkt mbuf
to a local synced time value.

This function was missing to allow users to convert the Rx timestamp
field to real time without the complexity of the rte_timesync* facility.
One can derivate the clock frequency by calling twice read_clock and
then keep a common time base.

If enabled, mlx4_mr_create() tries to maximize the range of MR

0203d33a10 net/mlx4: support secondary process
In order to support secondary process, a few features are required.

a) rdma-core library should allocate device resources using DPDK's
   memory allocator.

b) UAR should be remapped for secondary processes. Currently, in order
not to use different data structure for secondary processes, PMD
tries to reserve identical virtual address space for both primary
   and secondary processes.

c) IPC channel is necessary, which can be easily set with rte_mp APIs.
Through the channel, Verbs command FD is delivered to the secondary
process and the device stop/start event is also broadcast from
   primary process.

218c4e68c1 mk: use linux and freebsd in config names
Rather than using linuxapp and bsdapp everywhere, we can change things to
use the, more readable, terms "linux" and "freebsd" in our build configs.
Rather than renaming the configs we can just duplicate the existing ones
with the new names using symlinks, and use the new names exclusively
internally. ["make showconfigs" also only shows the new names to keep the
list short] The result is that backward compatibility is kept fully but any
new builds or development can be done using the newer names, i.e. both
"make config T=x86_64-native-linuxapp-gcc" and "T=x86_64-native-linux-gcc"

e9434f6f60 net/enic: enable limited RSS flow action
Some apps like OVS-DPDK use MARK+RSS flow rules in order to offload
packet matching to the NIC. The RSS action in such flow rules simply
indicates "receive packet normally", not trying to override the port
wide RSS. The action is included in the flow rules simply to terminate
them, as MARK is not a fate-deciding action. And, the RSS action has a
most basic config: default hash, level, types, null key, and identity
queue mapping.

Recent VIC adapters can support these "mark and receive" flow
rules. So, enable support for RSS action for this limited use case.

e7347a8aff net/enic: allow flow mark ID 0
The driver currently accepts mark ID 0 but does not report it in
matching packet's mbuf. For example, the following testpmd command
succeeds. But, the mbuf of a matching IPv4 UDP packet does not have
PKT_RX_FDIR_ID set.

flow create 0 ingress pattern ... actions mark id 0 / queue index 0 / end

The problem has to do with mapping mark IDs (32-bit) to NIC filter
IDs. Filter ID is currently 16-bit, so values greater than 0xffff are
rejected. The firmware reserves filter ID 0 for filters that do not
mark (e.g. steer w/o mark). And, the driver reserves 0xffff for the
flag action. This leaves 1...0xfffe for app use.

It is possible to simply reject mark ID 0 as unsupported. But, 0 is
commonly used (e.g. OVS-DPDK and VPP). So, when adding a filter, set
filter ID = mark ID + 1 to support mark ID 0. The receive handler
subtracts 1 from filter ID to get back the original mark ID.

6ef75e405d doc: add af_packet PMD guide
As of commit 364e08f2bb, DPDK allows an application to send and
receive raw packets using an AF_PACKET and PACKET_MMAP, when using
Linux Kernel. This complements it by adding a simple guide with the
following information:
- An introduction, where a brief explanation of this driver is given,
  pointing out the dependency on PACKET_MMAP;
- Which options are supported at configuration time, while setting up an
  interface, and it's inherent limitations;
- What the prerequisites are;
- A command line example of how to set up a DPDK port using the
  af_packet driver.

Since there's a dependency in PACKET_MMAP, the guide also points to the
original Kernel documentation, so the reader can get more details.

The imissed counters (number of packets dropped because the queues were

bc91e8db12 net/mlx5: add 128B padding of Rx completion entry
A PMD parameter (rxq_cqe_pad_en) is added to enable 128B padding of CQE on
RX side. The size of CQE is aligned with the size of a cacheline of the
core. If cacheline size is 128B, the CQE size is configured to be 128B even
though the device writes only 64B data on the cacheline. This is to avoid
unnecessary cache invalidation by device's two consecutive writes on to one
cacheline. However in some architecture, it is more beneficial to update
entire cacheline with padding the rest 64B rather than striding because
read-modify-write could drop performance a lot. On the other hand, writing
extra data will consume more PCIe bandwidth and could also drop the maximum
throughput. It is recommended to empirically set this parameter. Disabled
by default.

8a6ff33d6d net/enic: add AVX2 based vectorized Rx handler
Add the vectorized version of the no-scatter Rx handler. It aims to
process 8 descriptors per loop using AVX2 SIMD instructions. This
handler is in its own file enic_rxtx_vec_avx2.c, and makefile and
meson.build are modified to compile it when the compiler supports
AVX2. Under ideal conditions, the vectorized handler reduces
cycles/packet by more than 30%, when compared against the no-scatter
Rx handler. Most implementation ideas come from i40e's AVX2 based
handler, so credit goes to its authors.

At this point, the new handler is meant for field trials, and is not
selected by default. So add a new devarg enable-avx2-rx to allow the
user to request the use of the new handler. When enable-avx2-rx=1, the
driver will consider using the new handler.

Also update the guide doc and introduce the vectorized handler.

  is no longer valid.

* MUSDK 18.09 increased number of available bpools (buffer hw pools) by
introducing dma regions support. Update mvpp2 driver accordingly.

* replace MV_NET_IP4_F_TOS with MV_NET_IP4_F_DSCP

Before this patch, API allowed to configure a classification rule
according to IPv4 TOS, which was not supported in classifier. This patch
fixes this by using proper field.

c11f654042 net/i40e: add option to use latest vector path
For IA, the AVX2 vector path is only recommended to be used on later
platforms (identified by AVX512 support, like SKL etc.) This is because
performance benchmark shows downgrade when running AVX2 vector path on
early platform (BDW/HSW) in some cases. But we still observe perf gain
with some real work loading.

So this patch introduced the new devarg use-latest-supported-vec to
force the driver always selecting the latest supported vec path. Then
apps are able to take AVX2 path on early platforms. And this logic can
be re-used if we will have AVX512 vec path in future.

This patch only affects IA platforms. The selected vec path would be
like the following:
  Without devarg/devarg = 0:
  Machine	vPMD
  AVX512F	AVX2
  AVX2	SSE4.2
  SSE4.2	SSE4.2
  <SSE4.2	Not Supported

  With devarg = 1
  Machine	vPMD
  AVX512F	AVX2
  AVX2	AVX2
  SSE4.2	SSE4.2
  <SSE4.2	Not Supported

Other platforms can also apply the same logic if necessary in future.

For the exception vswitch path some tests like transmit

   * the exception packet uses less CPU
   * much smaller code size
   * no locking required on VF transmit/receive path
   * no legacy Linux network device to get mangled by userspace
   * much simpler (1K vs 9K) LOC
   * unified extended statistics

Con:
   * using netvsc has more complex startup model
   * no bifurcated driver support
   * no flow support (since host does not have flow API).
   * no tunnel offload support
   * no receive interrupt support

d16623dd39 net/enic: revert mbuf fast free offload
This reverts the patch that enabled mbuf fast free.

There are two main reasons.

First, enic_fast_free_wq_bufs is broken. When
DEV_TX_OFFLOAD_MBUF_FAST_FREE is enabled, the driver calls this
function to free transmitted mbufs. This function currently does not
reset next and nb_segs. This is simply wrong as the fast-free flag
does not imply anything about next and nb_segs.

We could fix enic_fast_free_wq_bufs by making it to call
rte_pktmbuf_prefree_seg to reset the required fields. But, it negates
most of cycle saving.

Second, there are customer applications that blindly enable all Tx
offloads supported by the device. Some of these applications do not
satisfy the requirements of mbuf fast free (i.e. a single pool per
queue and refcnt = 1), and end up crashing or behaving badly.

20b71e92ef net/mlx5: lay groundwork for switch offloads
With mlx5, unlike normal flow rules implemented through Verbs for traffic
emitted and received by the application, those targeting different logical
ports of the device (VF representors for instance) are offloaded at the
switch level and must be configured through Netlink (TC interface).

This patch adds preliminary support to manage such flow rules through the
flow API (rte_flow).

Instead of rewriting tons of Netlink helpers and as previously suggested by
Stephen [1], this patch introduces a new dependency to libmnl [2]
(LGPL-2.1) when compiling mlx5.

6bf10ab69b net/mlx5: support 32-bit systems
This patch adds support for building and running mlx5 PMD on
32bit systems such as i686.

The main issue to tackle was handling the 32bit access to the UAR
as quoted from the mlx5 PRM:
QP and CQ DoorBells require 64-bit writes. For best performance, it
is recommended to execute the QP/CQ DoorBell as a single 64-bit write
operation. For platforms that do not support 64 bit writes, it is
possible to issue the 64 bits DoorBells through two consecutive
writes,
each write 32 bits, as described below:
* The order of writing each of the Dwords is from lower to upper
  addresses.
* No other DoorBell can be rung (or even start ringing) in the midst
of an on-going write of a DoorBell over a given UAR page.

The last rule implies that in a multi-threaded environment, the access
to a UAR page (which can be accessible by all threads in the process)
must be synchronized (for example, using a semaphore) unless an atomic
write of 64 bits in a single bus operation is guaranteed. Such a
synchronization is not required for when ringing DoorBells on different
UAR pages.
