Fix problem with uninitialized rx/tx deferred_start flags of the struct
rte_eth_rxconf/txconf by initializing with 0 value (deferred start of
the rx/tx queues is turned off). This setting allows device rx/tx
queues to start with rte_eth_dev_start().

Extend port_id definition from uint8_t to uint16_t in lib and drivers
data structures, specifically rte_eth_dev_data. Modify the APIs,
drivers and app using port_id at the same time.
Fix some checkpatch issues from the original code and remove some
unnecessary cast operations.
release_17_11 and deprecation docs have been updated in this patch.

This one is more of a compiler issue as application
checks the app_parse_opt_vals() return value.

The "examples_clean" top-level build target calls "make clean" for each
individual example. However, for a number of those which were linux-only
examples, the "if" condition only had a dummy "all" target i.e. no "clean"
target, causing an error with examples_clean.

Since VF can not disable/enable HW CRC strip for non-DPDK PF drivers,
and kernel driver almost default enable that feature, if disable it in
example app's rxmode, VF driver will report the VF launch failure. So
this patch default to enable HW CRC strip to let VF launch successful.

those functions can optionally return the amount of remaining objs in the
ring. This information can be used by applications in a number of ways,
for instance, with single-consumer queues, it provides a max
dequeue size which is guaranteed to work.

those functions can optionally return the amount of free space in the
ring. This information can be used by applications in a number of ways,
for instance, with single-producer queues, it provides a max
enqueue size which is guaranteed to work. It can also be used to
implement watermark functionality in apps, replacing the older
functionality with a more flexible version, which enables apps to
implement multiple watermark thresholds, rather than just one.

The bulk fns for rings returns 0 for all elements enqueued and negative
for no space. Change that to make them consistent with the burst functions
in returning the number of elements enqueued/dequeued, i.e. 0 or N.
This change also allows the return value from enq/deq to be used directly
without a branch for error checking.

The app_worker_thread() and app_mixed_thread() use rte_ring_sc_dequeue_bulk
to dequeue packets from the ring and this imposes restriction on number of
packets in software ring to be greater than the specified value to start
actual dequeue operation, thus, adds latency to those packets. Therefore,
rte_ring_sc_dequeue_bulk is replaced with rte_ring_sc_dequeue_burst.

The mempool_count and mempool_free_count behaved contrary to what their
names suggested. The free_count function actually returned the number of
elements that were allocated from the pool, not the number unallocated as
the name implied.
Fix this by introducing two new functions to replace the old ones,
* rte_mempool_avail_count to replace rte_mempool_count
* rte_mempool_in_use_count to replace rte_mempool_free_count
In this patch, the new functions are added, and the old ones are marked
as deprecated. All apps and examples that use the old functions are
updated to use the new functions.

Latest mbuf changes (priv_size addition and related fixes)
exposed small problem with testpmd and few other sample apps:
when mbuf size is exaclty 2KB or less, that causes
ixgbe PMD to select scattered RX even for configs with 'normal'
max packet length (max_rx_pkt_len == ETHER_MAX_LEN).
To overcome that problem and unify the code, new macro was created
to represent recommended minimal buffer length for mbuf.
When appropriate, samples are updated to use that macro.

CACHE_LINE_SIZE is a macro defined in machine/param.h in FreeBSD and
conflicts with DPDK macro version.
Adding RTE_ prefix to avoid conflicts.
CACHE_LINE_MASK and CACHE_LINE_ROUNDUP are also prefixed.

Since commit a155d43011 ("support link bonding device initialization"),
rte_eal_pci_probe() is called in rte_eal_init().
So it doesn't have to be called by application anymore.
It has been fixed for testpmd in commit 2950a76931,
and this patch remove it from other applications.

After enable vector pmd, qos_sched only send 32 packets every burst.
That will cause some packets not transmitted and therefore mempool
will be drain after a while.
App qos_sched now will re-send the packets which failed to send out in
previous tx function.

The function rte_snprintf serves no useful purpose. It is the
same as snprintf() for all valid inputs. Deprecate it and
replace all uses in current code.
Leave the tests for the deprecated function in place.

Mark the rte_log, cmdline_printf and rte_snprintf functions as
being printf-style functions. This causes compilation errors
due to mis-matched parameter types, so the parameter types are
fixed where appropriate.

This commit removes trailing whitespace from lines in files. Almost all
files are affected, as the BSD license copyright header had trailing
whitespace on 4 lines in it [hence the number of files reporting 8 lines
changed in the diffstat].

The "default" part in configuration filenames is misleading.
Rename this as "native", as this is the RTE_MACHINE that is set in these files.
This should make it clearer for people who build DPDK on a system then run it on
another one.

Now that we've converted all the pmds in dpdk to use the driver registration
macro, rte_pmd_init_all has become empty. As theres no reason to keep it around
anymore, just remove it and fix up all the eample callers.

The example does not compile as the linker complains about duplicated
symbols.
Remove -lsched from LDLIBS, it is already present in rte.app.mk and
added by the DPDK framework automatically.
