c0280d5d8a mempool: return 0 if area is too small on populate
Change rte_mempool_populate_iova() and rte_mempool_populate_virt() to
return 0 instead of -EINVAL when there is not enough room to store one
object, as it can be helpful for applications to distinguish this
specific case.

As this is an ABI change, use symbol versioning to preserve old
behavior for binary applications.

3f2d6766e3 mempool: remove memory wastage on non-x86
The existing optimize_object_size() function address the memory object
alignment constraint on x86 for better performance.

Different (micro) architecture may have different memory alignment
constraint for better performance and it not the same as the existing
optimize_object_size().

Some use, XOR(kind of CRC) scheme to enable DRAM channel distribution
based on the address and some may have a different formula.

Introducing arch_mem_object_align() function to abstract
the difference between different (micro) architectures to avoid
wasting memory for mempool object alignment for the architecture
that it is not required to do so.

Details on the amount of memory saving:

Currently, arm64 based architectures use the default (nchan=4,
nrank=1). The worst case is for an object whose size (including mempool
header) is 2 cache lines, where it is optimized to 3 cache lines (+50%).

Examples for cache lines size = 64:
  orig     optimized
  64    -> 64           +0%
  128   -> 192          +50%
  192   -> 192          +0%
  256   -> 320          +25%
  320   -> 320          +0%
  384   -> 448          +16%
  ...
  2304  -> 2368         +2.7%  (~mbuf size)

f159c61c35 mempool: fix anonymous populate
The documentation says that a negative errno is returned on error, but
in most places that's not the case.

Fix the documentation and the exceptions in code. The second one
(return from populate_virt) also fixes a memory leak.

Note that testpmd was using the function correctly.

eba11e3646 mempool: reduce wasted space on populate
The size returned by rte_mempool_op_calc_mem_size_default() is aligned
to the specified page size. Therefore, with big pages, the returned size
can be much more that what we really need to populate the mempool.

For instance, populating a mempool that requires 1.1GB of memory with
1GB hugepages can result in allocating 2GB of memory.

This problem is hidden most of the time due to the allocation method of
rte_mempool_populate_default(): when try_iova_contig_mempool=true, it
first tries to allocate an iova contiguous area, without the alignment
constraint. If it fails, it fallbacks to an aligned allocation that does
not require to be iova-contiguous. This can also fallback into several
smaller aligned allocations.

This commit changes rte_mempool_op_calc_mem_size_default() to relax the
alignment constraint to a cache line and to return a smaller size.

e2594a36e9 mempool: remove deprecated functions
Functions rte_mempool_populate_phys(), rte_mempool_virt2phy() and
rte_mempool_populate_phys_tab() are just wrappers for corresponding
IOVA functions and were deprecated in v17.11.

Functions rte_mempool_xmem_create(), rte_mempool_xmem_size(),
rte_mempool_xmem_usage() and rte_mempool_populate_iova_tab() were
deprecated in v18.05 and removal was announced earlier in v18.02.

ce1f2c61ed mempool: remove callback to get capabilities
The callback was introduced to let generic code to know octeontx
mempool driver requirements to use single physically contiguous
memory chunk to store all objects and align object address to
total object size. Now these requirements are met using a new
callbacks to calculate required memory chunk size and to populate
objects using provided memory chunk.

These capability flags are not used anywhere else.

Restricting capabilities to flags is not generic and likely to
be insufficient to describe mempool driver features. If required
in the future, API which returns structured information may be
added.

0a48646893 mempool: add op to calculate memory size to be allocated
Size of memory chunk required to populate mempool objects depends
on how objects are stored in the memory. Different mempool drivers
may have different requirements and a new operation allows to
calculate memory size in accordance with driver requirements and
advertise requirements on minimum memory chunk size and alignment
in a generic way.

Bump ABI version since the patch breaks it.

0d440d081c lib: fix missing includes in exported headers
Many exported headers rely on definitions found in rte_config.h without
including it, as shown by the following command:

We cannot assume external applications will include rte_config.h on their
own, neither directly nor through a -include parameter like DPDK does
internally.

This not only causes obvious compilation failures that can be reproduced
with check-includes.sh such as:

 [...]/rte_memory.h:88:43: error: ‘RTE_CACHE_LINE_SIZE’ was not declared in
     this scope
  #define __rte_cache_aligned __rte_aligned(RTE_CACHE_LINE_SIZE)
                                            ^

It also results in less visible issues, for instance rte_hash_crc.h relying
on RTE_ARCH_X86_64's presence to provide dedicated inline functions.

This patch partially reverts the commit below and adds missing include
lines to the remaining files.

12b8cc1a7e mempool: notify memory area to pool
HW pool manager e.g. Octeontx SoC demands s/w to program start and end
address of pool. Currently, there is no such api in external mempool.
Introducing rte_mempool_ops_register_memory_area api which will let HW(pool
manager) to know when common layer selects hugepage:
For each hugepage - Notify its start/end address to HW pool manager.

56d5c1079e mempool: introduce block size alignment flag
Some mempool hw like octeontx/fpa block, demands block size
(/total_elem_sz) aligned object start address.

Introducing an MEMPOOL_F_CAPA_BLK_ALIGNED_OBJECTS flag.
If this flag is set:
- Align object start address(vaddr) to a multiple of total_elt_sz.
- Allocate one additional object. Additional object is needed to make
  sure that requested 'n' object gets correctly populated.

Example:
- Let's say that we get 'x' size of memory chunk from memzone.
- And application has requested 'n' object from mempool.
- Ideally, we start using objects at start address 0 to...(x-block_sz)
  for n obj.
- Not necessarily first object address i.e. 0 is aligned to block_sz.
- So we derive 'offset' value for block_sz alignment purpose i.e..'off'.
- That 'off' makes sure that start address of object is blk_sz aligned.
- Calculating 'off' may end up sacrificing first block_sz area of
  memzone area x. So total number of the object which can fit in the
  pool area is n-1, Which is incorrect behavior.

Therefore we request one additional object (/block_sz area) from memzone
when MEMPOOL_F_CAPA_BLK_ALIGNED_OBJECTS flag is set.

65cf769f5e mempool: detect physical contiguous objects
The memory area containing all the objects must be physically
contiguous.
Introducing MEMPOOL_F_CAPA_PHYS_CONTIG flag for such use-case.

The flag useful to detect whether pool area has sufficient space
to fit all objects. If not then return -ENOSPC.
This way, we make sure that all object within a pool is contiguous.

8ee94d8aee mempool: fix API documentation
A previous commit changed the local_cache table into a
pointer, reducing the size of the rte_mempool structure.

Fix the API comment of rte_mempool_create() related to
this modification.

580db2a5ce mempool: remove a redundant word in comment
There is a redundant repetition word "for" in comment line of the
file rte_mempool.h after the definition of RTE_MEMPOOL_OPS_NAMESIZE.
The word "for" appears twice in line 359 and 360. One of them is
redundant, so delete it.

79d6f5fc58 lib: work around unnamed structs/unions
Exported header files used by applications should allow the strictest
compiler flags. Language extensions used in many places must be explicitly
marked to avoid warnings and compilation failures.

Unnamed structs/unions are allowed since C11, however many compiler
versions do not use this mode by default.

This commit prevents the following errors:

 error: ISO C99 doesn't support unnamed structs/unions
 error: struct has no named members

38c9817ee1 mempool: adjust name size in related data types
A recent patch brought up an issue about the size of the 'name' fields:

85cf0079 mem: avoid memzone/mempool/ring name truncation

These relations should be observed:

1. Each ring creates a memzone with a prefixed name:
RTE_RING_NAMESIZE <= RTE_MEMZONE_NAMESIZE - strlen(RTE_RING_MZ_PREFIX)

2. There are some mempool handlers which create a ring with a prefixed
name:
RTE_MEMPOOL_NAMESIZE <= RTE_RING_NAMESIZE - strlen(RTE_MEMPOOL_MZ_PREFIX)

3. A mempool can create up to RTE_MAX_MEMZONE pre and postfixed memzones:
sprintf(postfix, "_%d", RTE_MAX_MEMZONE)
RTE_MEMPOOL_NAMESIZE <= RTE_MEMZONE_NAMESIZE -
	strlen(RTE_MEMPOOL_MZ_PREFIX) - strlen(postfix)

Setting all of them to 32 hides this restriction from the application.
This patch decreases the mempool and ring string size to accommodate for
these prefixes, but it doesn't apply the 3rd constraint. Applications
relying on these constants need to be recompiled, otherwise they'll run
into ENAMETOOLONG issues.
The size of the arrays are kept 32 for ABI compatibility, it can be
decreased next time the ABI changes.
