5d30897295 ethdev: add mbuf RSS update as an offload
Add new Rx offload flag `DEV_RX_OFFLOAD_RSS_HASH` which can be used to
enable/disable PMDs write to `rte_mbuf:#️⃣:rss`.
PMDs notify the validity of `rte_mbuf:#️⃣rss` to the application
by enabling `PKT_RX_RSS_HASH ` flag in `rte_mbuf::ol_flags`.

Also update testpmd rx_offload command to include RSS_HASH

739e045bf2 app/testpmd: support multiple raw encap/decap
In some scenarios, the raw_encap/raw_decap actions could be multiple in
one single flow (e,g. hirepin flow):

  ... actions raw_decap / raw_encap / raw_decap / raw_encap / ...

This requires the testpmd supports multiple raw_encap/raw_decap data
settings as well.

With the multiple raw_encap/raw_decap settings, the testpmd commands –
set raw_encap / set raw_decap will become:

  set raw_encap <index> <item pattern>
  set raw_decap <index> <item pattern>

And the actions – raw_encap/raw_decap also could optionally choose which
global raw_encap/raw_decap confs to be used by index:

  ... actions raw_decap index 1 / raw_encap index 2 / ...

If there is no `index` specified, the default index is 0:

  set raw_encap <item pattern>
  ... actions raw_decap / raw_encap / ...

which will use raw_encap index 0.

In addition to the set raw_encap/raw_decap commands,

  show <raw_encap/raw_decap> <index>
  show <raw_encap/raw_decap> all

are also introduced into in order to check which index is set and to
what.

5e913bdb4f app/testpmd: fix CRC strip command
This patch fixed the bug that a failure appeared when config
rx_offload crc_strip using command "port config all crc-strip

In this patch, some codes left over about 'crc_strip' are

e5db17a1e5 app/testpmd: remove duplicated Rx offload commands
The testpmd application provides two sets of commands for RX offload
flags configuration. The purpose of this patch is to eliminate this
duplication by removing the old set of commands:
“port config all crc-strip|scatter|rx-cksum|rx-timestamp|hw-vlan|
hw-vlan-filter|hw-vlan-strip|hw-vlan-extend on|off”

The other commands set that can be used instead in order to enable
or disable the same RX offloading flags on all RX queues of a port is:
"port config <port_id> rx_offload crc_strip|scatter|ipv4_cksum|
udp_cksum|tcp_cksum|timestamp|vlan_strip|vlan_filter|vlan_extend on|off"

This patch also fixes the "drop-en" command, which enables packets
dropping on all RX queues of all ports when no receive buffers available

6937d2103e app/testpmd: add option to not start device
Some configuration options can not be tested properly with testpmd
because it automatically starts all ports. This makes it harder

55e51c9624 app/testpmd: add device related commands

So a new command "detach device" (~hotplug remove) to work,

30626def03 app/testpmd: support raw encap/decap actions
This patch intend to support
action_raw_encap/decap [1] in a generic and convenient way.

Two new commands - set raw_encap, set raw_decap are introduced just
like the other commands for encap/decap, i.e. set vxlan.

These two commands have corresponding global buffers
which can be used by PMD as the input buffer for raw encap/decap.

The commands use the rte_flow pattern syntax to help user build the
raw buffer in a convenient way.

A common way to use it:

- encap matched egress packet with VxLAN tunnel:
testpmd> set raw_encap eth src is 10:11:22:33:44:55 / vlan tci is 1
	 inner_type is 0x0800 / ipv4 / udp dst is 4789 / vxlan vni
	 is 2 / end_set
testpmd> flow create 0 egress pattern eth / ipv4 / end actions
	 raw_encap / end

- decap l2 header and encap GRE tunnel on matched egress packet:
testpmd> set raw_decap eth / end_set
testpmd> set raw_encap eth dst is 10:22:33:44:55:66 / ipv4 / gre
	 protocol is 0x0800 / end_set
testpmd> flow create 0 egress pattern eth / ipv4 / end actions
	 raw_decap / raw_encap / end

- decap VxLAN tunnel and encap l2 header on matched ingress packet:
testpmd> set raw_encap eth src is 10:11:22:33:44:55 type is 0x0800 /
	 end_set
testpmd> set raw_decap eth / ipv4 / udp / vxlan / end_set
testpmd> flow create 0 ingress pattern eth / ipv4 / udp dst is 250 /
         vxlan vni is 0x1234 / ipv4 / end actions raw_decap /
         raw_encap / queue index 1 / mark id 0x1234 / end

bf5b2126bf app/testpmd: add ability to set Tx IP and UDP parameters
This patch changes what testpmd uses as IP addresses when
run in transmit only mode. The old code was using
192.168.0.1 -> 192.168.0.2
but these addresses are reserved for private Internet by RFC 1918.

The new code uses 192.18.0.1 and 192.18.0.2 which are on the
subnet reserved for performance testing by RFC 2544.

New command line option allows the user to pick any other src/dst
address desired.

3ee567cfec doc: document all EAL parameters in one place
Currently, the most complete (but still incomplete) user guide for
EAL command-line parameters resides in user guide for testpmd.
This is wrong on multiple levels, and should not be the case.

To fix it, we have to create a document that lists all supported
EAL command-line arguments. However, because different platforms
support different subsets of available EAL parameters, instead of
creating a single file, we will create a common file in
doc/guides/common containing documentation for EAL parameters
that are supported on all of our supported platforms (Linux and
FreeBSD at the time of this writing).

We will then include this document in the Getting Started guides
for all supported platforms, so that any changes made to
documentation for commonly supported EAL parameters will be
reflected in Getting Started guides for all platforms.

This patch also removes EAL parameters documentation from the
testpmd user guide, and instead adds references to the newly
created documents in both testpmd user guides and in sample
applications guide.

This patch uses EAL option "--iova-mode" to force the IOVA mode to a
particular value. There exists virtual devices that are not directly
attached to the PCI bus, and therefore the auto detection of the IOVA

report the required addressing mode. Using the EAL option permits the

4f1ed78ebd app/testpmd: setup attached ports on probe event
After probing is done, each new port must be setup.
The new ports are currently guessed by iterating on ports
matching the devargs string used for probing.

When probing a port, it is possible that one more port probing
get triggered (e.g. PF is automatically probed when probing
a VF representor). Such automatic probing will be caught only on event.

The iterator loop may be replaced by a call from the event callback.

3e77031be8 app/testpmd: add MPLSoGRE encapsulation
Example for MPLSoGRE tunnel:
ETH / IPV4 / GRE / MPLS / IP / L4..L7

In order to encapsulate such a tunnel there is a need to remove L2 of
the inner packet and encap the remaining tunnel, this is done by
applying 2 rte flow commands l2_decap followed by mplsogre_encap.
Both commands must appear in the same flow, and from the point of the
packet it both actions are applied at the same time. (There is no part
where a packet doesn't have L2 header).

Decapsulating such a tunnel works the other way, first we need to decap
the outer tunnel header and then apply the new L2.
So the commands will be mplsogre_decap / l2_encap

Due to the complex encapsulation of MPLSoGRE flow action and
based on the fact testpmd does not allocate memory, this patch adds a
new command in testpmd to initialise a global structure containing the
necessary information to make the outer layer of the packet. This same
global structures will then be used by the flow commands in testpmd when
the action mplsogre_encap, mplsogre_decap, will be parsed, at this

This patch introduces additional options in testpmd commands:
- New item type "meta" "data"
- New per-port offload flag "match_metadata".

It also adds commands to configure the tx_metadata value to use:
- New 'config' command takes a 32 bit value and stores it per port:
	port config <port_id> tx_metadata <value>
testpmd will add to any Tx packet sent from this port the metadata
  value, and set ol_flags accordingly.

3c156061b9 app/testpmd: add noisy neighbour forwarding mode
This adds a new forwarding mode to testpmd to simulate
more realistic behavior of a guest machine engaged in receiving
and sending packets performing Virtual Network Function (VNF).

The goal is to enable a simple way of measuring performance impact on
cache and memory footprint utilization from various VNF co-located on
the same host machine. For this it does:

* Buffer packets in a FIFO:

Create a fifo to buffer received packets. Once it flows over put
those packets into the actual tx queue. The fifo is created per tx
queue and its size can be set with the --noisy-tx-sw-buffer-flushtime
commandline parameter.

A second commandline parameter is used to set a timeout in
milliseconds after which the fifo is flushed.

--noisy-tx-sw-buffer-size [packet numbers]
Keep the mbuf in a FIFO and forward the over flooding packets from the
FIFO. This queue is per TX-queue (after all other packet processing).

--noisy-tx-sw-buffer-flushtime [delay]
Flush the packet queue if no packets have been seen during
[delay]. As long as packets are seen, the timer is reset.

Add several options to simulate route lookups (memory reads) in tables
that can be quite large, as well as route hit statistics update.
These options simulates the while stack traversal and
will trash the cache. Memory access is random.

* simulate route lookups:

Allocate a buffer and perform reads and writes on it as specified by
commandline options:

--noisy-lkup-memory [size]
Size of the VNF internal memory (MB), in which the random
read/write will be done, allocated by rte_malloc (hugepages).

--noisy-lkup-num-writes [num]
Number of random writes in memory per packet should be
performed, simulating hit-flags update. 64 bits per write,
all write in different cache lines.

--noisy-lkup-num-reads [num]
Number of random reads in memory per packet should be
performed, simulating FIB/table lookups. 64 bits per read,
all write in different cache lines.

--noisy-lkup-num-reads-writes [num]
Number of random reads and writes in memory per packet should
be performed, simulating stats update. 64 bits per read-write, all
reads and writes in different cache lines.

fc6bbb3f28 ethdev: add port ID item and action to flow API
RTE_FLOW_ACTION_TYPE_PORT_ID brings the ability to inject matching traffic
into a different device, as identified by its DPDK port ID.

This is normally only supported when the target port ID has some kind of
relationship with the port ID the flow rule is created against, such as
being exposed by a common physical device (e.g. a different port of an
Ethernet switch).

The converse pattern item, RTE_FLOW_ITEM_TYPE_PORT_ID, makes the resulting
flow rule match traffic whose origin is the specified port ID. Note that
specifying a port ID that differs from the one the flow rule is created
against is normally meaningless (if even accepted), but can make sense if
combined with the transfer attribute.

These must not be confused with their PHY_PORT counterparts, which refer to
physical ports using device-specific indices, but unlike PORT_ID are not
necessarily tied to DPDK port IDs.

This breaks ABI compatibility for the following public functions:

- rte_flow_copy()
- rte_flow_create()
- rte_flow_query()
- rte_flow_validate()

39b8dda700 ethdev: fix behavior of VF/PF in flow API
Contrary to all other pattern items, these are inconsistently documented as

e58638c324 ethdev: fix TPID handling in flow API
TPID handling in rte_flow VLAN and E_TAG pattern item definitions is not
consistent with the normal stacking order of pattern items, which is
confusing to applications.

Problem is that when followed by one of these layers, the EtherType field
of the preceding layer keeps its "inner" definition, and the "outer" TPID
is provided by the subsequent layer, the reverse of how a packet looks like
on the wire:

 Wire: [ ETH TPID = A | VLAN EtherType = B | B DATA ]
 rte_flow: [ ETH EtherType = B | VLAN TPID = A | B DATA ]

Worse, when QinQ is involved, the stacking order of VLAN layers is
unspecified. It is unclear whether it should be reversed (innermost to
outermost) as well given TPID applies to the previous layer:

 Wire: [ ETH TPID = A | VLAN TPID = B | VLAN EtherType = C | C DATA ]
 rte_flow 1: [ ETH EtherType = C | VLAN TPID = B | VLAN TPID = A | C DATA ]
 rte_flow 2: [ ETH EtherType = C | VLAN TPID = A | VLAN TPID = B | C DATA ]

While specifying EtherType/TPID is hopefully rarely necessary, the stacking
order in case of QinQ and the lack of documentation remain an issue.

This patch replaces TPID in the VLAN pattern item with an inner
EtherType/TPID as is usually done everywhere else (e.g. struct vlan_hdr),
clarifies documentation and updates all relevant code.

It breaks ABI compatibility for the following public functions:

- rte_flow_copy()
- rte_flow_create()
- rte_flow_query()
- rte_flow_validate()

Summary of changes for PMDs that implement ETH, VLAN or E_TAG pattern
items:

- bnxt: EtherType matching is supported with and without VLAN, but TPID
matching is not and triggers an error.

- e1000: EtherType matching is only supported with the ETHERTYPE filter,
which does not support VLAN matching, therefore no impact.

- enic: same as bnxt.

- i40e: same as bnxt with existing FDIR limitations on allowed EtherType
values. The remaining filter types (VXLAN, NVGRE, QINQ) do not support
  EtherType matching.

- ixgbe: same as e1000, with additional minor change to rely on the new
  E-Tag macro definition.

- mlx4: EtherType/TPID matching is not supported, no impact.

- mlx5: same as bnxt.

- mvpp2: same as bnxt.

- sfc: same as bnxt.

- tap: same as bnxt.

18aee2861a ethdev: add encap level to RSS flow API action
RSS hash types (ETH_RSS_* macros defined in rte_ethdev.h) describe the
protocol header fields of a packet that must be taken into account while
computing RSS.

When facing encapsulated (e.g. tunneled) packets, there is an ambiguity as
to whether these should apply to inner or outer packets. Applications need
the ability to tell exactly "where" RSS must be performed.

This is addressed by adding encapsulation level information to the RSS flow
action. Its default value is 0 and stands for the usual unspecified
behavior. Other values provide a specific encapsulation level.

Contrary to the change announced by commit 676b605182 ("doc: announce
ethdev API change for RSS configuration"), this patch does not affect
struct rte_eth_rss_conf but struct rte_flow_action_rss as the former is not
used anymore by the RSS flow action. ABI impact is therefore limited to
rte_flow.

ac8d22de23 ethdev: flatten RSS configuration in flow API
Since its inception, the rte_flow RSS action has been relying in part on
external struct rte_eth_rss_conf for compatibility with the legacy RSS API.
This structure lacks parameters such as the hash algorithm to use, and more
recently, a method to tell which layer RSS should be performed on [1].

Given struct rte_eth_rss_conf will never be flexible enough to represent a
complete RSS configuration (e.g. RETA table), this patch supersedes it by
extending the rte_flow RSS action directly.

A subsequent patch will add a field to use a non-default RSS hash
algorithm. To that end, a field named "types" replaces the field formerly
known as "rss_hf" and standing for "RSS hash functions" as it was
confusing. Actual RSS hash function types are defined by enum
rte_eth_hash_function.

This patch updates all PMDs and example applications accordingly.

It breaks ABI compatibility for the following public functions:

- rte_flow_copy()
- rte_flow_create()
- rte_flow_query()
- rte_flow_validate()

from testpmd and changed the Rx offload command line parameters from

It has been decided by the Technical Board that testers who wish to
use these offloads will now have to explicitly write them in the
command-line when running testpmd.
The agreement is to keep two exceptions enabled by default in 18.02:
Rx CRC strip and Tx fast free.

Motivation:
Some PMDs such at the mlx4 may not implement all the offloads.
After the offload API rework assuming no offload is enabled by default,
commit ce17eddefc ("ethdev: introduce Rx queue offloads API")
commit cba7f53b71 ("ethdev: introduce Tx queue offloads API") trying
to enable a not supported offload is clearly an error which will cause

Considering that testpmd is an application to test the PMD, it should
not fail on a configuration which was not explicitly requested.

This patch add a API configuration of queue region in rss.
It can parse the parameters of region index, queue number,
queue start index, user priority, traffic classes and so on.
According to commands from command line, it will call i40e

configure. As this feature is specific for i40e, so private API
will be used. Aslo add a document for these new commands.
Queue region only support PF by now, so this document is

5b590fbe09 app/testpmd: add traffic management forwarding mode
This commit extends the testpmd application with new forwarding engine
that demonstrates the use of ethdev traffic management APIs and softnic
PMD for QoS traffic management.

In this mode, 5-level hierarchical tree of the QoS scheduler is built
with the help of ethdev TM APIs such as shaper profile add/delete,
shared shaper add/update, node add/delete, hierarchy commit, etc.
The hierarchical tree has following nodes; root node(x1, level 0),
subport node(x1, level 1), pipe node(x4096, level 2),
tc node(x16348, level 3), queue node(x65536, level 4).

During runtime, each received packet is first classified by mapping the
packet fields information to 5-tuples (HQoS subport, pipe, traffic class,
queue within traffic class, and color) and storing it in the packet mbuf
sched field. After classification, each packet is sent to softnic port
which prioritizes the transmission of the received packets, and
accordingly sends them on to the output interface.

To enable traffic management mode, following testpmd command is used;

$ ./testpmd -c c -n 4 --vdev
	'net_softnic0,hard_name=0000:06:00.1,soft_tm=on' -- -i
	--forward-mode=tm

The maximum packet length (including the packet header and payload) for
GSO segments may be set with the command:

b7091f1dcf app/testpmd: enable the heavyweight mode TCP/IPv4 GRO
The GRO library provides two modes to reassemble packets. Currently, the
csum forwarding engine has supported to use the lightweight mode to
reassemble TCP/IPv4 packets. This patch introduces the heavyweight mode
for TCP/IPv4 GRO in the csum forwarding engine.

With the command "set port <port_id> gro on|off", users can enable
TCP/IPv4 GRO for a given port. With the command "set gro flush <cycles>",
users can determine when the GROed TCP/IPv4 packets are flushed from
reassembly tables. With the command "show port <port_id> gro", users can
display GRO configuration.

The GRO library doesn't re-calculate checksums for merged packets. If
users want the merged packets to have correct IP and TCP checksums,
please select HW IP checksum calculation and HW TCP checksum calculation
for the port which the merged packets are transmitted to.

323f811a4a ethdev: add isolated mode to flow API
Isolated mode can be requested by applications on individual ports to avoid
ingress traffic outside of the flow rules they define.

Besides making ingress more deterministic, it allows PMDs to safely reuse
resources otherwise assigned to handle the remaining traffic, such as
global RSS configuration settings, VLAN filters, MAC address entries,
legacy filter API rules and so on in order to expand the set of possible
flow rule types.

To minimize code complexity, PMDs implementing this mode may provide
partial (or even no) support for flow rules when not enabled (e.g. no
priorities, no RSS action). Applications written to use the flow API are
therefore encouraged to enable it.

Once effective, leaving isolated mode may not be possible depending on PMD
implementation.
