The scenario is as follows:
spdk_get_io_channel(...)
spdk_put_io_channel(...) <- sends a message to do the release
spdk_get_io_channel(...)
spdk_put_io_channel(...) <- sends a message to do the release again
_spdk_put_io_channel(...)
_spdk_put_io_channel(...) <- boom
