As a new x86 CPU vendor, Chengdu Haiguang IC Design Co., Ltd (Hygon)
is a joint venture between AMD and Haiguang Information Technology Co.,
Ltd., aims at providing x86 processors for China server market.
The first generation Hygon processor(Dhyana) shares most architecture
with AMD's family 17h, but with different CPU vendor ID("HygonGenuine")
and PCI vendor ID(0x1d94) and family series number 18h(Hygon negotiated
with AMD to confirm that only Hygon use family 18h).
To enable Hygon Dhyana support in FreeBSD, add new definitions
HYGON_VENDOR_ID("HygonGenuine") and X86_VENDOR_HYGON(0x1d94) to identify
Hygon Dhyana CPU.
Initialize the CPU features(topology, local APIC ext, MSI, TSC, hwpstate,
MCA, DEBUG_CTL, etc) for amd64 and i386 mode by sharing the code path of
AMD family 17h.
The changes have been applied on FreeBSD 13.0-CURRENT and tested
successfully on Hygon Dhyana processor.

The main objective here is to make it easy to identify what needs to change
in order to use a different sysent generator than the current Lua-based one,
which may be used to MFC some of the changes that have happened so we can
avoid parallel accidents in stable branches, for instance.
As a secondary objective, it's now feasible to override the generator on a
per-Makefile basis if needed, so that one could refactor their Makefile to
use this while pinning generation to the legacy makesyscalls.sh. I don't
anticipate any consistent need for such a thing, but it's low-effort to
achieve.

The vnode pager does not want the object lock held. Moving this out allows
further object lock scope reduction in callers. While here add some missing
paging in progress calls and an assert. The object handle is now protected
explicitly with pip.

On a MINIMAL kernel, mps.ko wouldn't load because it uses the xpt_hold_boot
symbol from CAM, but didn't have a dependency on cam(4).
(CEM: Some context: when linking loaded modules, the kernel dynamic linker
only looks for definitions in explictly marked dependency modules. Also,
the identical mpr(4) driver uses the same CAM function, but already had the
correct MODULE_DEPEND(), so no similar change is needed there.)

Summary:
The CPLD is the communications medium between the CPU and the XMOS
"Xena" event coprocessor. It provides a mailbox communication feature,
along with dual-port RAM to be used between the CPU and XMOS. Also, it
provides basic board stats as well, such as PCIe presence, JTAG signals,
and CPU fan speed reporting (in revolutions per second). Only fan speed
reading is handled, as a sysctl.

Summary:
This fixes kernel crashing when tunable "machdep.moea64_bpvo_pool_size" is
set to a value higher then 327680 (default value). Function
moea64_mid_bootstrap() relies on moea64_bpvo_pool_size, but at time of the
use the variable wan't yet updated with the new value provided by user.
Problem was detected after trying to use a VM with 64GB of RAM, and default
moea64_bpvo_pool_size is insufficient (kernel boot used more than 470000) .
I think default value must be discussed to address this use case, or find a
way to calculate pool size automatically based on amount of memory detected.
Test Plan: Tested on QEMU VM with 64GB of RAM using "set
machdep.moea64_bpvo_pool_size=655360" on loader prompt

Not all pins in Allwinner have interrupts support so we rely
on the padconf data to add the proper caps when pin_getcaps is called.
The pin is switch to the specific "eint" function during setup_intr and
switched back to its old function in teardown_intr.
Only INTR_MAP_DATA_GPIO is supported for now.

Add a eint_bank member to the allwinner_pins structure.
On Allwinner SoCs not all pins can do interrupt.
Older SoC (A10/A13 and A20) there is a maximum number of interrupts
set to 32 and all the configuration is done in the same registers.
While on "newer" SoCs (>=A31) interrupts registers are splitted per
pin bank (i.e. all interrupts available in bank B will be configured
with a sets of registers and the one in bank G in another set).
While here set the names to all interrupts function to
pX_eintY where X is the bank name and Y the interrupt number.
To whom ever in the future look at the H5 manual and notice that the bank F
have interrupts support : This isn't true, trust me.

Shadow objects are marked with a COLLAPSING flag while they are collapsing with
their backing object. This gives us an explicit test rather than overloading
paging-in-progress. While split is on-going we mark an object with SPLIT.
These two operations will modify the swap tree so they must be serialized
and swap_pager_getpages() can now directly detect these conditions and page
more conservatively.
Callers to vm_object_collapse() now will reliably wait for a collapse to finish
so that the backing chain is as short as possible before other decisions are
made that may inflate the object chain. For example, split, coalesce, etc.
It is now safe to run fault concurrently with collapse. It is safe to increase
or decrease paging in progress with no lock so long as there is another valid
ref on increase.
This change makes collapse more reliable as a secondary benefit. The primary
benefit is making it safe to drop the object lock much earlier in fault or
never acquire it at all.
This was tested with a new shadow chain test script that uncovered long
standing bugs and will be integrated with stress2.

r355473 vastly improved the readability and cleanliness of these Makefiles.
Every single one of them follows the same pattern and duplicates the exact
same logic.
Now that we have GENERATED/SRCS, split SRCS up into the two parameters we'll
use for ${MAKESYSCALLS} rather than assuming a specific ordering of SRCS and
include a common sysent.mk to handle the rest. This makes it less tedious to
make sweeping changes.
Some default values are provided for GENERATED/SYSENT_*; almost all of these
just use a 'syscalls.master' and 'syscalls.conf' in cwd, and they all use
effectively the same filenames with an arbitrary prefix. Most ABIs will be
able to get away with just setting GENERATED_PREFIX and including
^/sys/conf/sysent.mk, while others only need light additions. kern/Makefile
is the notable exception, as it doesn't take a SYSENT_CONF and the generated
files are spread out between ^/sys/kern and ^/sys/sys, but it otherwise fits
the pattern enough to use the common version.

In rS354701, I replaced text relocations with offsets from &generictrap.
Unfortunately, the magic variable I was using doesn't actually mean the
address of &generictrap, in bridge mode it actually means &generictrap64.
So, for bridge mode to work, it is necessary to differentiate between
"where do we need to branch to to handle a trap" and "where is &generictrap
for purposes of doing relative math".
Introduce a new TRAP_ENTRY and use it instead of TRAP_GENTRAP for doing
actual calls to the generic trap handler.

Summary:
Consolidate the NUMA associativity handling into a platform function.
Non-NUMA platforms will just fall back to the default (0). Currently
only implemented for powernv, which uses a lookup table to map the
device tree associativity into a system NUMA domain.
Fixes hangs on powernv after r356534, and corrects a fairly longstanding
bug in powernv's NUMA handling, which ended up using domains 1 and 2 for
devices and memory on power9, while CPUs were bound to domains 0 and 1.

It turns out the maximum TLB1 page size on e5500 is 4G, despite the format
being defined for up to 1TB.
So, we need to clamp the DMAP TLB1 entries to not attempt to create 16G or
larger entries.

In r291668, an instruction was added to sigcode64.S without the nop pad at
the end being taken out.

Raspberry Pi are all over the board, and the reality is that there's no harm
in including all of the definitions by default but plenty of harm in the
current situation. This change is safe because we match a definition by root
/compatible in the FDT, so there will be no false-positives because of it.
The main array of definitions grows, but it's only walked exactly once to
determine which we need to use.
Previously, this check was only in sys_sigreturn() which meant that
user applications could write invalid values to the register via
setcontext() or swapcontext().

As part of the RISC-V ABI, the gp register is expected to initialized
with the address of __global_pointer$ as early as possible. This allows
loads and stores from .sdata to be relaxed based on the value of gp. In
locore.S we do this initialization twice, once each for va and mpva.
However, in both cases the initialization is preceded by an la
instruction, which in theory could be relaxed by the linker.
Move the initialization of gp to be slightly earlier (before la
cpu_exception_handler), and add an additional gp initialization at the
very beginning of _start, before virtual memory is set up.

page that was previously mapped read-only it exists in pmap until pmap_enter()
returns. However, we held no reference to the original page after the copy
was complete. This allowed vm_object_scan_all_shadowed() to collapse an
object that still had pages mapped. To resolve this, add another page pointer
to the faultstate so we can keep the page xbusy until we're done with
pmap_enter(). Handle busy pages in scan_all_shadowed. This is already done
in vm_object_collapse_scan().

Only send a speedup when there's a shortage. While this is a little racy, lost
races aren't a big deal for this function. If there's a shorage just popping up
after we check these values, then we'll catch it next time. If there's a
shortage that's just clearing up, we may do some work at the lower layers a
little sooner than we otherwise would have. Sicne shortages are relatively rare
events, both races are acceptable.

It turns out there's a problem with using g_io to send the speedup. It leads to
a race when there's a resource shortage when a disk fails.
Instead, send BIO_SPEEDUP via struct buf. This is pretty straight forward,
except we need to transfer the bio_flags from b_ioflags for BIO_SPEEDUP commands
in g_vfs_strategy.

While some geom layers pass unknown commands down, not all do. For the ones that
don't, pass BIO_SPEEDUP down to the providers that constittue the geom, as
applicable. No changes to vinum or virstor because I was unsure how to add this
support, and I'm also unsure how to test these. gvinum doesn't implement
BIO_FLUSH either, so it may just be poorly maintained. gvirstor is for testing
and not supportig BIO_SPEEDUP is fine.

The vnode list lock is only needed to reclaim free vnodes or kick the vnlru
thread (or to block and not miss a wake up (but note the sleep has a timeout so
this would not be a correctness issue)). Try to get away without the lock by
just doing an atomic increment.
The lock is contended e.g., during poudriere -j 104 where about half of all
acquires come from vnode allocation code.
Note the entire scheme needs a rewrite, the above just reduces it's SMP impact.

The gpio controller in rockchips SoC in a child of the pinctrl driver
and cannot control pullups and pulldowns.
Use the new fdt_pinctrl interface for accessing pin capabilities and
setting them.
We can now report that every pins is capable of being IN or OUT function
and PULLUP PULLDOWN.
If the pin isn't in gpio mode no changes will be allowed.

Most of the gpio controller cannot configure or get the configuration
of the pin muxing as it's usually handled in the pinctrl driver.
But they can know what is the pinmuxing driver either because they are
child of it or via the gpio-range property.
Add some new methods to fdt_pinctrl that a pin controller can implement.
Some methods are :
fdt_pinctrl_is_gpio: Use to know if the pin in the gpio mode
fdt_pinctrl_set_flags: Set the flags of the pin (pullup/pulldown etc ...)
fdt_pinctrl_get_flags: Get the flags of the pin (pullup/pulldown etc ...)

Each GPIO bank is powered by a different pin and so can be powered at different
voltage from different regulators.
Add a new config that now hold the pinmux data and the banks available on each
SoCs.
Since the aw_gpio driver being also the pinmux one it's attached before the PMIC
so add a config_intrhook_oneshot function that will enable the needed regulators
when the system is fully functional.

mount point while numerous tests are running that are writing to
files on that mount point cause the unmount(8) to hang forever.
The unmount(8) system call is handled in the kernel by the dounmount()
function. The cause of the hang is that prior to dounmount() calling
VFS_UNMOUNT() it is calling VFS_SYNC(mp, MNT_WAIT). The MNT_WAIT
flag indicates that VFS_SYNC() should not return until all the dirty
buffers associated with the mount point have been written to disk.
Because user processes are allowed to continue writing and can do
so faster than the data can be written to disk, the call to VFS_SYNC()
can never finish.
Unlike VFS_SYNC(), the VFS_UNMOUNT() routine can suspend all processes
when they request to do a write thus having a finite number of dirty
buffers to write that cannot be expanded. There is no need to call
VFS_SYNC() before calling VFS_UNMOUNT(), because VFS_UNMOUNT() needs
to flush everything again anyway after suspending writes, to catch
anything that was dirtied between the VFS_SYNC() and writes being
suspended.
The fix is to simply remove the unnecessary call to VFS_SYNC() from
dounmount().

The utility here seems somewhat limited, but clang will attempt to generate
.eh_frame and actively fail in doing so. It is perhaps worth investigating
why it's being generated in the first place (GCC doesn't do so), but this
isn't a high priority.
This can happen if a file is closed during unix socket GC. The same bug
was fixed for devfs descriptors in r228361.

I am not sure how exactly this change works, but I have a report from a
user that they see lots of checksum errors when running a pool scrub

By allowing more items per slab, we can improve memory efficiency for
small allocs. If we were just to increase the bitmap size of the
slabzone, we would then waste slabzone memory. So, split slabzone into
two zones, one especially for 8-byte allocs (512 per slab). The
practical effect should be reduced memory usage for counter(9).

etc. The code in handle_workitem_remove() needs to propagate any completed
journal entries to the write that will render the change stable. In the
case of a moved directory this means the new parent. However, for an
overwrite that frees a directory (DIRCHG) we must move the jsegdep to the
removed inode to be released when it is stable in the cg bitmap or the
unlinked inode list. This case was previously unhandled and caused a
panic.

The netmap passthrough subsystem requires proper support in the
hypervisor. In particular, two PCI device ids (from the Red Hat
PCI vendor id 0x1b36) need to be assigned to the two netmap
virtual devices. We then disable these devices until the ids have
not been assigned, in order to avoid conflicts with other

Fix a mistake introduced by r343291, which ported the vmx(4)
driver to iflib.
In case of TSO, the hlen field of the (first) tx descriptor must
be initialized to the cumulative length of Ethernet, IP and TCP

Part of i_flag can persist across a drop to hold count of 0, at which
point the vnode is taken off the lazy list. Then whoever locks and unlocks
the vnode can trip on the assert.
This trips over kyua running a test untarring character devices to ufs.

This is a follow up to r356481. In locore.S, before virtual memory is
set up, we should avoid using indirect address lookups through the GOT.
Therefore we need to convert uses of the la instruction to lla, which
always generates an auipc/addi pair of instructions. This conversion was
done for the BSP case, but not the AP case, resulting in a fault
somewhere before mpva and a failure to bring APs online.

Constant requeuing adds significant lock contention in certain
workloads. Lessen the problem by batching it.
Per-cpu areas are locked in order to synchronize against UMA freeing
memory.
vnode's v_mflag is converted to short to prevent the struct from
growing.
Sample result from an incremental make -s -j 104 bzImage on tmpfs:

The current notion of an active vnode is eliminated.
Vnodes transition between 0<->1 hold counts all the time and the
associated traversal between different lists induces significant
scalability problems in certain workloads.
Introduce a global list containing all allocated vnodes. They get
unlinked only when UMA reclaims memory and are only requeued when
hold count reaches 0.
Sample result from an incremental make -s -j 104 bzImage on tmpfs:

This obviates the need to scan the entire active list looking for vnodes
of interest.
msync is handled by adding all vnodes with write count to the lazy list.
deferred inactive directly adds vnodes as it sets the VI_DEFINACT flag.
Vnodes get dequeued from the list when their hold count reaches 0.
Newly added MNT_VNODE_FOREACH_LAZY* macros support filtering so that
spurious locking is avoided in the common case.

Treat it as a synonym for GRND_NONBLOCK. The reasoning is this:
We have two choices for handling Linux's GRND_INSECURE API flag.
1. We could ignore it completely (like GRND_RANDOM). However, this might
produce the surprising result of GRND_INSECURE requests blocking, when the
Linux API does not block.
2. Alternatively, we could treat GRND_INSECURE requests as requests for
GRND_NONBLOCk. Here, the surprising result for Linux programs is that
invocations with unseeded random(4) will produce EAGAIN, rather than
garbage.
Honoring the flag in the way Linux does seems fraught. If we actually use
the output of a random(4) implementation prior to seeding, we leak some
entropy (in an information theory and also practical sense) from what will
be the initial seed to attackers (or allow attackers to arbitrary DoS
initial seeding, if we don't leak). This seems unacceptable -- it defeats
the purpose of blocking on initial seeding.
Secondary to that concern, before seeding we may have arbitrarily little
entropy collected; producing output from zero or a handful of entropy bits
does not seem particularly useful to userspace.
If userspace can accept garbage, insecure, non-random bytes, they can create
their own insecure garbage with srandom(time(NULL)) or similar. Any program
which would be satisfied with a 3-bit key CTR stream has no need for CSPRNG
bytes. So asking the kernel to produce such an output from the secure
getrandom(2) API seems inane.
For now, we've elected to emulate GRND_INSECURE as an alternative spelling
of GRND_NONBLOCK (2). Consider this API not-quite stable for now. We
guarantee it will never block. But we will attempt to monitor actual port
uptake of this bizarre API and may revise our plans for the unseeded
behavior (prior stable/13 branching).

When expanding a SYN-cache entry to a socket/inp a two step approach was
taken:
1) The local address was filled in, then the inp was added to the hash
table.
2) The remote address was filled in and the inp was relocated in the
hash table.
Before the epoch changes, a write lock was held when this happens and
the code looking up entries was holding a corresponding read lock.
Since the read lock is gone away after the introduction of the
epochs, the half populated inp was found during lookup.
This resulted in processing TCP segments in the context of the wrong
TCP connection.
This patch changes the above procedure in a way that the inp is fully
populated before inserted into the hash table.

Over time one or two hard coded function names did not match the
actual function anymore. Consistently use __func__ for nd6log() calls
and re-wrap/re-format some messages for consitency.

This creates a dedicated routine (vn_alloc) to allocate vnodes.
As a side effect code duplicationw with getnewvnode_reserve is eleminated.
Add vn_free for symmetry.
Having a reserved vnode count does not guarantee that getnewvnodes wont
block later. Said blocking partially defeats the purpose of reserving in
the first place.
Preallocate instaed. The only consumer was always passing "1" as count
and never nesting reservations.
r302340, as an attempt to fix the localbus child handling post-rman change,
actually broke child resource allocation, due to typos in
fdt_lbc_reg_decode(). This went unnoticed because there aren't any drivers
currently in tree that use localbus.
This overlays can be used on A64 board to use spigen and spi(8)
on the spi0 pins.

The patch could be simplier, using only the second chunk to
vtnet_rxq_eof(), that passes full mbufs to pfil(9). Packet
filter would m_free() them in case of returning PFIL_DROPPED.
However, we pretend to be a hardware driver, so we first try
to pass a memory buffer via PFIL_MEMPTR feature. This is mostly
done for debugging purposes, so that one can experiment in bhyve
with packet filters utilizing same features as a true driver.
respectively. The tunable controls how big is the size of per-cpu
vm page cache. Previously the value was split for all CPUs in system,
so configuring same value on machines with different count of CPUs
yielded in different cache size available to a particular CPU.

We use to handle each message separately in i2c_transfer but that cannot
work with message with NOSTOP as it confuses the controller that we disable
the interrupts and start a new message.
Handle every message in the interrupt handler and fire a new start condition
if the previous message have NOSTOP, the controller understand this as a
repeated start.
This fixes booting on Allwinner A10/A20 platform where before the i2c controller
used to write 0 to the PMIC register that control the regulators as it though that
this was the continuation of the write message.

When either makesyscalls.lua or syscalls.master changes, all of the
${GENERATED} targets are now out-of-date. With make jobs > 1, this means we
will run the makesyscalls script in parallel for the same ABI, generating
the same set of output files.
Prior to r356603 , there is a large window for interlacing output for some
of the generated files that we were generating in-place rather than staging
in a temp dir. After that, we still should't need to run the script more
than once per-ABI as the first invocation should update all of them. Add
.ORDER to do so cleanly.

This makes makesyscalls.lua more parallel-friendly, or at least not as
hostile to the idea. We get into situations where we're running parallel if
we end up with MAKE_JOBS>1 entering any of the sysent targets, since each
output file is recognized a distinct build step that needs to be executed.
Another commit will add some .ORDER to further improve the situation.

hw.floatingpoint and hw.altivec are effectively runtime constants (bits from
the cpu_feature bitfield), so don't need Giant, or any locking for that
matter.
It may be possible to make this completely lock free, but for now it's using
a statically allocated bounce buffer in the softc, so it needs to be
guarded.
The newer versions of RPi FDT flipped the order of the interrupts
specification and added an 'interrupt-names' property for driver aide in
finding the correct interrupt, rather than assuming the positions. Use it if
it's available, or fallback to the old method if there is no interrupt-names
property with a usb value.
This has been tested with both old RPi3B FDT and new RPi3B FDT, USB again
works on the latter.

Some kernel subsystems, notably ZFS, will destroy UMA zones from a
shutdown eventhandler. This causes the zone to be drained. For slabs
that are mapped into KVA this can be very expensive and so it needlessly
delays the shutdown process.
Add a new state to the "booted" variable, BOOT_SHUTDOWN. Once
kern_reboot() starts invoking shutdown handlers, turn uma_zdestroy()
into a no-op, provided that the zone does not have a custom finalization
routine.

Add an option flag so that arbitrary updates to a lagg's configuration
do not clear sc_stride. Preseve compatibility for old ifconfig
binaries. Update ifconfig to use the new flag and improve the casting
used when parsing the option parameter.

Do not configure any endpoint twice, but instead keep track of which
endpoints are configured on a per device basis, and use an evaluate
endpoint context command instead. When changing the configuration make
sure all endpoints get deconfigured and the configured endpoint mask
is reset.
This fixes an issue where an endpoint might stop working if there is
an error and the endpoint needs to be reconfigured as a part of the
error recovery mechanism in the FreeBSD USB stack.

Other mechanisms that resize the shmfd grab a write lock from 0 to OFF_MAX
for safety, so we still get proper synchronization of shmfd->shm_size in
effect. There's no need to block readers/writers of earlier segments when
we're just reserving more space, so narrow the scope -- it would likely be
safe to narrow it completely to just the section of the range that extends
beyond our current size, but this likely isn't worth it since the size isn't
stable until the writelock is granted the first time.

if_vmove can fail if it lost a race and the vnet's already been moved. The
callers (and their callers) can generally cope with this, but right now
success is assumed. Plumb out the ENOENT from if_detach_internal if it
happens so that the error's properly reported to userland.

Virtualise tcp_always_keepalive, TCP and UDP log_in_vain. All three are
set in the netoptions startup script, which we would love to run for VNETs
as well [1].
While virtualising the log_in_vain sysctls seems pointles at first for as
long as the kernel message buffer is not virtualised, it at least allows
an administrator to debug the base system or an individual jail if needed
without turning the logging on for all jails running on a system.

Move the decision to take an early exit from that function after adding
children based on FDT data into the #ifdef FDT block, so that it doesn't
offend coverity's notion of how the code should be written. (What's the
point of compilers optimizing away dead code if static analyzers won't

has a non-NULL child bus stored in it, so the "none" value can't be zero
since that's a valid array index. Also, when adding all possible buses
because there is no specific per-bus config, there's no need to reset
sc->maxbus on each loop iteration, it can be set once after the loop.
Linux expects to be able to use posix_fallocate(2) on a memfd. Other places
would use this with shm_open(2) to act as a smarter ftruncate(2).
Test has been added to go along with this.

- Export the offset into the backing object, not the object size.
- Fix a bug where we would print the previous entry's "offset" when a
map_entry has no object.
- Try to identify shared mappings. Linux prints "s" when the mapping

lld on RISC-V is not yet able to handle undefined weak symbols for
non-PIC code in the code model (medany/medium) used by the RISC-V
kernel.
Both GCC and clang emit an auipc / addi pair of instructions to
generate an address relative to the current PC with a 31-bit offset.
Undefined weak symbols need to have an address of 0, but the kernel
runs with PC values much greater than 2^31, so there is no way to
construct a NULL pointer as a PC-relative value. The bfd linker
rewrites the instruction pair to use lui / addi with values of 0 to
force a NULL pointer address. (There are similar cases for 'ld'
becoming auipc / ld that bfd rewrites to lui / ld with an address of
0.)
To work around this, compile the kernel with -fPIE when using lld.
This does not make the kernel position-independent, but it does
force the compiler to indirect address lookups through GOT entries
(so auipc / ld against a GOT entry to fetch the address). This
adds extra memory indirections for global symbols, so should be
disabled once lld is finally fixed.
A few 'la' instructions in locore that depend on PC-relative
addressing to load physical addresses before paging is enabled have to
use auipc / addi and not indirect via GOT entries, so change those to
use 'lla' which always uses auipc / addi for both PIC and non-PIC.

SSD capacity in laptops is growing faster then RAM size, so my original
guess seems too low on second thought. Hopefully nobody will build large
array of those crappy SSDs.

This allows cheapest DRAM-less NVMe SSDs to use some of host RAM (about
1MB per 1GB on the devices I have) for its metadata cache, significantly
improving random I/O performance. Device reports minimal and preferable
size of the buffer. The code limits it to 1% of physical RAM by default.
If the buffer can not be allocated or below minimal size, the device will
just have to work without it.
