69acd21dfd Add support for the YE-Data external PCMCIA floppy driver. This
floppy is used on the toshiba Libretto line of subnotebook computers.
It differs from a normal floppy in that you must use PIO rather than
DMA to transfer the data.

To enable this, you must add options "FDC_YE" to your kernel. I don't
have a machine that has a floppy and a pcmcia slot to test to make
sure that this doesn't impact normal floppy units, so I've left this as
an option.

I have ported this to -current and made an attempt to ensure that the
indentation conforms to style(9), aka the bruce filter.

f7c9e34bea If there is no .depends file, use the standard ad-hoc way of ensuring
that the generated files are generated before any of the object files.
Also minor cleanup of dependencies in conf/files that I bogusly added
before.

This should fix the requirement that make depend be done starting from
a clean config directory. If you don't have a clean directory, make
depend is still required if you want the proper .o's to be recompiled.

726ff6a158 An early Christmas present: add driver support for a whole bunch of
PCI fast ethernet adapters, plus man pages.

if_pn.c: Netgear FA310TX model D1, LinkSys LNE100TX, Matrox FastNIC 10/100,
         various other PNIC devices

if_mx.c: NDC Communications SOHOware SFA100 (Macronix 98713A), various
other boards based on the Macronix 98713, 98713A, 98715, 98715A
         and 98725 chips

if_vr.c: D-Link DFE530-TX, other boards based on the VIA Rhine and
Rhine II chips (note: the D-Link and certain other cards
that actually use a Rhine II chip still return the PCI
device ID of the Rhine I. I don't know why, and it doesn't
really matter since the driver treats both chips the same
         anyway.)

if_wb.c: Trendware TE100-PCIE and various other cards based on the
Winbond W89C840F chip (the Trendware card is identical to
the sample boards Winbond sent me, so who knows how many
         clones there are running around)

All drivers include support for ifmedia, BPF and hardware multicast
filtering.

Also updated GENERIC, LINT, RELNOTES.TXT, userconfig and
sysinstall device list.

I also have a driver for the ASIX AX88140A in the works.

5b38fe900d Implement 'software completion' for floating point arithmetic. On the
alpha, operations involving non-finite numbers or denormalised numbers
or operations which should generate such numbers will cause an arithmetic
exception. For programs which follow some strict code generation rules,
the kernel trap handler can then 'complete' the operation by emulating
the faulting instruction.

To use software completion, a program must be compiled with the arguments
'-mtrap-precision=i' and '-mfp-trap-mode=su' or '-mfp-trap-mode=sui'.
Programs compiled in this way can use non-finite and denormalised numbers
at the expense of slightly less efficient code generation of floating
point instructions. Programs not compiled with these options will receive
a SIGFPE signal when non-finite or denormalised numbers are used or
generated.

9ad861edee - For some old Cyrix CPUs, %cr2 is clobbered by interrupts. This
problem is worked around by using an interrupt gate for the page
fault handler. This code was originally made for NetBSD/pc98 by
Naofumi Honda <honda@kururu.math.sci.hokudai.ac.jp> and has already
been in PC98 tree. Because of this bug, trap_fatal cannot show
correct page fault address if %cr2 is obtained in this function.
Therefore, trap_fatal uses the value from trap() function.
- The trap handler always enables interruption when buggy application
or kernel code has disabled interrupts and then trapped. This code
was prepared by Bruce Evans <bde@FreeBSD.org>.

c2906d55d0 Make timecounters more resistant to badly behaved SW/HW which locks
out interrupts for too long. If you still see the "calcru: negative
time..." message you can increase NTIMECOUNTER (see LINT).

Sideeffect is that a timecounter is required to not wrap around in
less than (1 + delta) seconds instead of the (1/hz + delta) required
until now.

dd0b2081f4 Implemented zero-copy TCP/IP extensions via sendfile(2) - send a
file to a stream socket. sendfile(2) is similar to implementations in
HP-UX, Linux, and other systems, but the API is more extensive and
addresses many of the complaints that the Apache Group and others have
had with those other implementations. Thanks to Marc Slemko of the
Apache Group for helping me work out the best API for this.
Anyway, this has the "net" result of speeding up sends of files over
TCP/IP sockets by about 10X (that is to say, uses 1/10th of the CPU
cycles) when compared to a traditional read/write loop.

6b7a14ce57 Make the ELF kernel build produce a dynamic executable (!). This enables
the in-kernel linker to access the _DYNAMIC data for doing loadable elf
modules. The alpha kernel is already done this way, I've borrowed some of
the hacks from there.

This is primarily aimed at the 3-stage boot process which is intended to
be able to do pre-loading of kernel modules.

Note that the entry point isn't 0xf0100000 any more, it'll be a little
further on - but this value is stored in the headers. I don't think this
will be a problem, but I'm sure somebody will tell me if it is. :-)

I'm not sure if btxboot is going to like this, it doesn't do proper ELF
header checking and assumes that there are exactly two program header
entries and that they are both PT_LOAD entries - a bad assumption.

5b036e2b3c Fixed missing dependencies of genassym.o, gensetdefs.o and vers.o
on opt_global.h. This actually matters for genassym.o (it depends
on at least SMP).

Don't undefine KERNEL for compiling genassym.c. genassym.o really
depends on KERNEL, and the prototype mismatches that required
undefining KERNEL in rev.1.49 no longer exist.

Compile gensetdefs* with the same flags as genassym*. External
`gen' programs such linux_genassym should also use these flags
(${GEN_CFLAGS}).

Fixed missing dependency generation for gensetdefs.o. C sources
for external `gen' programs should be added to GEN_CFILES to get
their dependencies generated.

Cleaned up flags definitions and use. All of ${CFLAGS} is now
passed to mkdep and the assembler (both are actually variants of
${CC} and will ignore the irrelevant flags).

The VESA support code requires vm86 support. Make sure your kernel

If you want to statically link the VESA support code to the kernel,
add the following option to the kernel configuration file.
        options "VESA"

The vidcontrol command now accepts the following video mode names:
VESA_132x25, VESA_132x43, VESA_132x50, VESA_132x60, VESA_800x600

The VESA_800x600 mode is a raster display mode. The 80x25 text will
be displayed on the 800x600 screen. Useful for some laptop computers.

vidcontrol accepts the new `-i <info>' option, where <info> must be
either `adapter' or `mode'. When the `-i adapter' option is given,
vidcontrol will print basic information (not much) on the video
adapter. When the `-i mode' option is specified, vidcontrol will
list video modes which are actually supported by the video adapter.

===================================
HARP | Host ATM Research Platform
                ===================================

                              HARP 3

What is this stuff?
-------------------
The Advanced Networking Group (ANG) at the Minnesota Supercomputer Center,
Inc. (MSCI), as part of its work on the MAGIC Gigabit Testbed, developed
the Host ATM Research Platform (HARP) software, which allows IP hosts to
communicate over ATM networks using standard protocols. It is intended to
be a high-quality platform for IP/ATM research.

HARP provides a way for IP hosts to connect to ATM networks. It supports
standard methods of communication using IP over ATM. A host's standard IP
software sends and receives datagrams via a HARP ATM interface. HARP provides
functionality similar to (and typically replaces) vendor-provided ATM device
driver software.

HARP includes full source code, making it possible for researchers to
experiment with different approaches to running IP over ATM. HARP is
self-contained; it requires no other licenses or commercial software packages.

HARP implements support for the IETF Classical IP model for using IP over ATM
networks, including:

o IETF ATMARP address resolution client
o IETF ATMARP address resolution server
   o IETF SCSP/ATMARP server
   o UNI 3.1 and 3.0 signalling protocols
o Fore Systems's SPANS signalling protocol

What's supported
----------------
The following are supported by HARP 3:

   o ATM Host Interfaces
        - FORE Systems, Inc. SBA-200 and SBA-200E ATM SBus Adapters
        - FORE Systems, Inc. PCA-200E ATM PCI Adapters
        - Efficient Networks, Inc. ENI-155p ATM PCI Adapters

   o ATM Signalling Protocols
        - The ATM Forum UNI 3.1 signalling protocol
        - The ATM Forum UNI 3.0 signalling protocol
        - The ATM Forum ILMI address registration
        - FORE Systems's proprietary SPANS signalling protocol
        - Permanent Virtual Channels (PVCs)

o IETF "Classical IP and ARP over ATM" model
        - RFC 1483, "Multiprotocol Encapsulation over ATM Adaptation Layer 5"
        - RFC 1577, "Classical IP and ARP over ATM"
        - RFC 1626, "Default IP MTU for use over ATM AAL5"
        - RFC 1755, "ATM Signaling Support for IP over ATM"
        - RFC 2225, "Classical IP and ARP over ATM"
        - RFC 2334, "Server Cache Synchronization Protocol (SCSP)"
        - Internet Draft draft-ietf-ion-scsp-atmarp-00.txt,
"A Distributed ATMARP Service Using SCSP"

   o ATM Sockets interface
        - The file atm-sockets.txt contains further information

What's not supported
--------------------
The following major features of the above list are not currently supported:

        o UNI point-to-multipoint support
o Driver support for Traffic Control/Quality of Service
o SPANS multicast and MPP support
o SPANS signalling using Efficient adapters

This software was developed under the sponsorship of the Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

46f3ff7986 Major ppbus updates from the author.
- ppbus now supports PLIP via the if_plip driver
 - ieee1284 infrastructure added, including parallel-port PnP
 - port microsequencer added, for scripting the sort of port I/O
that is common with parallel devices without endless calls up and down
   through the driver structure.
 - improved bus ownership behaviour among the ppbus-using drivers.
 - improved I/O chipset feature detection

The vpo driver is now implemented using the microsequencer, leading to
some performance improvements as well as providing an extensive example
of its use.

df471779ea Round tickadj up. This prevents tickadj from being 0 when HZ > 500,
which makes adjtime(2) useless and confuses xntpd(8) into refusing
to start even when it would use the kernel PLL instead of adjtime().
The result is the same as recommended by tickadj(8), at least when
HZ divides 10^6. Of course, you wouldn't want to actually use
adjtime() when HZ is large. In the silly boundary case of HZ == 10^6,
tickadj == tick == 1 so the clock stops while adjtime() is active.

99d11cde56 Major changes to the generic device framework for FreeBSD/alpha:
* Eliminate bus_t and make it possible for all devices to have
  attached children.

* Support dynamically extendable interfaces for drivers to replace
both the function pointers in driver_t and bus_ops_t (which has been
removed entirely. Two system defined interfaces have been defined,
'device' which is mandatory for all devices and 'bus' which is
recommended for all devices which support attached children.

* In addition, the alpha port defines two simple interfaces 'clock'
for attaching various real time clocks to the system and 'mcclock'
for the many different variations of mc146818 clocks which can be
attached to different alpha platforms. This eliminates two more
function pointer tables in favour of the generic method dispatch
system provided by the device framework.

Future device interfaces may include:

* cdev and bdev interfaces for devfs to use in replacement for specfs
and the fixed interfaces bdevsw and cdevsw.

* scsi interface to replace struct scsi_adapter (not sure how this
works in CAM but I imagine there is something similar there).

* various tailored interfaces for different bus types such as pci,
  isa, pccard etc.

FreeBSD/alpha. The most significant item is to change the command
argument to ioctl functions from int to u_long. This change brings us

use (__FreeBSD_version == 300003) to detect this change.

bb60f459a0 Add optional code to change the way that divert and ipfw work together.
Prior to this change, Accidental recursion protection was done by
the diverted daemon feeding back the divert port number it got
the packet on, as the port number on a sendto(). IPFW knew not to
redivert a packet to this port (again). Processing of the ruleset
started at the beginning again, skipping that divert port.

The new semantic (which is how we should have done it the first time)
is that the port number in the sendto() is the rule number AFTER which
processing should restart, and on a recvfrom(), the port number is the
rule number which caused the diversion. This is much more flexible,
and also more intuitive. If the user uses the same sockaddr received
when resending, processing resumes at the rule number following that
that caused the diversion. The user can however select to resume rule
processing at any rule. (0 is restart at the beginning)

To enable the new code use

option	IPFW_DIVERT_RESTART

This should become the default as soon as people have looked at it a bit

This is a standard part of FreeBSD, but must be enabled with:
"sysctl -w net.inet.ip.fastforwarding=1" ...and of course forwarding must
also be enabled. This should probably be modified to use the zone
allocator for speed and space efficiency. The current algorithm also
appears to lose if the number of active paths exceeds IPFLOW_MAX (256),
in which case it wastes lots of time trying to figure out which cache
entry to drop.
