2d52c6a15b thread: add spdk_thread_set_interrupt_mode func
spdk_thread_set_interrupt_mode can get spdk_thread run
between intr and poll mode. It is only valid when thread
interrupt facility is enabled by
spdk_interrupt_mode_enable(). Currently, this function
is limited that no poller is registered to the spdk_thread.

3a58a5f19c nvme: add spdk_nvme_map_cmd API
The API `spdk_nvme_map_prps` is used in nvmf/vfio-user to
remap VM's NVMe command data buffer to local virtual address,
and for command using PRP, there maybe multiple pages, when
parsing the PRP list to local IOVs, we need a parameter to check
that the maximum number of vectors can't exceed the IOVs, this API
can't meet the requirement, while here, we add a new API `spdk_nvme_map_cmd`
and with a new parameter `max_iovcnt` to fix this case, and it can
also cover the command using SGL in the coming patches.

8dfa1067a4 nvmf: Allow transport specific statistics dumping into JSON
This change refactors the way nvmf_get_stats RPC works.
The RPC layer passes JSON write context to custom dump function defined within transport ops.
The RPC layer no longer needs to know the structure of transport poll group statictics.
Functions and structures used in the previous flow have been deprecated and will be removed.
JSON returned for RDMA transport should be the same as before this change.

e329ec45a6 nvme: add set_nvme_pcie_set_hotplug_filter
This function allows applications to specify whether
they wish to allow probing a newly attached NVMe
PCIe SSD.

The env layer will only even probe devices that have
been allowed. By default, this is all devices, but
if the user has specified some list of
allowed PCI addresses (via spdk_env_opts pci_allowed)
then newly attached PCIe devices are implicitly not
allowed. This API allows applications to add
device addresses to the allowed list after the
application has started.

This API will be useful for use cases where multiple
SPDK processes are running on one server, and assignment
of PCIe SSDs to those processes are based on some function
of the SSD's PCIe address.

207e05831f env: add spdk_pci_device_allow() API
The env layer has a pci_allowed list, which specifies
that only a subset of PCI devices may be attached
by the associated process.

But that doesn't cover PCI devices that are hot-inserted
after the application starts, which is common for

So add a new spdk_pci_device_allow() API which allows

8a1a845053 idxd: simplification in re-balancing channels
For flow control reasons we have to resize the bit arrays we
use to manage flow as channels come and go. However since
channels are assigned to devices, until the channel count
reaches the device count there's no sharing so no resize of
the array is needed. So, when we use a device for the first
time there's no need to run through the rest of the channels
and re-balance.

Same thing is done on destruction. The code to free idxd
specific resources was moved from the rebalance function to
the idxd put channel function which is a much more logical
place for it as well.

79f9a7f572 build: generate pkg-config files for SPDK
Users can now generate the necessary linker args for their
own applications using something like:

PKG_CONFIG_PATH=build/lib/pkgconfig pkg-config --libs spdk_nvme

Dependencies between libraries are included in the generated
.pc files, so the user only needs to pass the top-level subsystems
or individual SPDK libraries they are using in their application.

Modules will automatically be added to the output if the associated
library is specified. For example, specifying "spdk_bdev" will include
the libraries not only for spdk_bdev, but also all of the bdev modules.

Users still need to supply the -Wl,--no-as-needed or -Wl,--whole-archive
flags. They cannot be added to the .pc files without increasing the length
of the argument string by a factor of 15x to 20x.

Modify the test/external_code/hello_world Makefile to use pkg-config to
ensure this gets tested at some level in our autotest environment.

Added asynchronous event notices for discovery log change
as per nvme fabrics spec 1.1. This allows a host with persistent

According to nvme fabrics spec 1.1, if the connect command specifies a
non-zero keep alive timer value and the discovery controller does not
support asynchronous events then we need to return Connect Invalid.
Since SPDK does not implement this check instead added support
for asynchronous events in discovery controller.

by default. This means that on bdevs that don't natively support zcopy the
API emulates zero-copy by allocating a buffer. In my test environment, I
measured a 25% decrease in IOPS when zcopy was enabled. This patch changes
the default value so that zcopy is disabled by default. For bdevs that support
zcopy, use the -Z flag to enable using zcopy API.

198a3ad2fd nvme: if no command set is requested, use the most reasonable default
Since namespace types were introduced in NVMe, the CC.CSS register
has a new value (SPDK_NVME_CC_CSS_IOCS) which indicates that all
supported command sets should be selected/enabled. This possibly
includes command sets other than NVM and ADMIN only.

Therefore, if a SPDK application wants enable all the command sets
that the controller supports, it has to explicitly set
opts->command_set to SPDK_NVME_CC_CSS_IOCS.

To avoid possibly a lot of SPDK applications having to set this
parameter, check if the user requested a command set explicitly,
if not, make SPDK automatically use the most reasonable default,
based on the supported bits set by the controller.
The most common case is that you want to enable (all) the command
sets that the controller supports.

A user will still be able to restrict the controller to only use
the NVM command set (or ADMIN only), by setting opts->command_set
to a specific value.

Since the current default command set value specified by
spdk_nvme_ctrlr_get_default_ctrlr_opts() is SPDK_NVME_CC_CSS_NVM,
which is defined as 0, we cannot know if the user specified a
command set explicitly or not.
To solve this, change the default command set value specified by
spdk_nvme_ctrlr_get_default_ctrlr_opts() to CHAR_BIT (0x8), which
is larger than the largest value that can be set in CS.CSS (which
is only 3 bits wide, thus 0x7).

6a72c19ee2 blob/bdev: Add an API spdk_bdev_create_bs_dev_ext()
spdk_bdev_open_ext() requires the caller to use bdev_event_cb_t
and bdev_event_cb_t is more extensible than bdev_remove_cb_t.
Hence use bdev_event_t as an argument.

spdk_bdev_open_ext() calls spdk_bdev_get_by_name() inside and
spdk_bdev_create_bs_dev_ext() calls spdk_bdev_open_ext() inside.
The caller needs to know if the spdk_bdev_get_by_name() succeeded.
Hence spdk_bdev_create_bs_dev_ext() returns return code by return
value and returns the created bs_dev by double pointer.

db8bd99588 bdev/part: Add spdk_bdev_part_base_construct_ext() to pass bdev_name
Add an new API spdk_bdev_part_base_construct_ext() to pass not bdev but
bdev_name to fix the race condition due to the time gap between
spdk_bdev_get_by_name() and spdk_bdev_open(). A pointer to a bdev is
valid only while the bdev is opened.

In the new API, spdk_bdev_get_by_name() is included in
spdk_bdev_part_base_construct_ext() and the caller has to know if
the bdev exists or not. Hence spdk_bdev_part_base_construct_ext()
returns return code and returns the created part object by the double
pointer.

Another critical change is that base is just freed if spdk_bdev_open_ext()
failed with -ENODEV. The reason is that if we call spdk_bdev_part_base_free()
for that case, the configuration is removed by the registered callback
and so bdev_examine() will not work.

The following patches will replace spdk_bdev_part_base_construct()
by spdk_bdev_part_base_construct_ext() for the corresponding bdev
modules.

ee7e31f9ae lib/accel: remove the need for the app to allocate an accel_task
This was sort of a clunky interface requiring a couple of inline
functions in every app that wants to use the accel_fw moving
forward. By having the accel_fw public API accept a callback arg
instead of an accel_task combined with adding a pool of accel_tasks
in the accel_fw engine we can eliminate this.

After changing the parm to a cb_arg, changes were made to all accel_fw
interfaces to put cb_fn and cb_arg as the last parms in public and
private function calls.

Related bdev_malloc changes need to be in this patch in order to pass CI.

1551197db5 rpc: Deprecate max_qpairs_per_ctrlr parameter
This parameter describes the number of admin and IO
qpairs while admin qpair always exists and should not
be configured explicitly.
Introduce a new parameter `max_io_qpairs_per_ctrlr`
which configures the number of IO qpairs.
Internal structure of NVMF transport is not changed,
both RPC parameters configure the same nvmf transport parameter.

Deprecate max_qpairs_per_ctrlr in spdkcli as well

Side change: update dif_insert_or_strip description -
it can be used by TCP and RDMA transports

Config files parsing is not changed since it is deprecated

Fixes #1378

d5b059dedc accel: add new API to discover an engine's capabilities
This patch also implements the new API for the 3 existing engines.
There was also some minor clean in one file, moving a function to
eliminate multiple forward declarations (there would have been
another one with this new API).

The next patch will use this API in the accel perf tool.
