ad606c9f6a ethdev: fix hotplug attach
If a pci probe operation creates a port but, for any reason, fails to
finish this operation and decides to delete the newly created port, then
the last created port id can not be trusted anymore and any subsequent
attach operations will fail.

This problem was noticed while working on a vm that had a virtio-net
management interface bound to the virtio-net kernel driver and no port
whitelisted in the commandline:

root@ubuntu1404:~/dpdk# ./build/app/testpmd -c 0x6 --
	 -i --total-num-mbufs=2049
EAL: Detected 3 lcore(s)
EAL: Probing VFIO support...
EAL: Debug logs available - lower performance
EAL: WARNING: cpu flags constant_tsc=yes nonstop_tsc=no -> using
	unreliable clock cycles !
EAL: PCI device 0000:00:03.0 on NUMA socket -1
EAL: probe driver: 1af4:1000 (null)

EAL: No probed ethernet devices
     ^
     |
Here, rte_eth_dev_pci_probe() fails since vtpci_init() reports an
error. This results in a rte_eth_dev_release_port() right after a
     rte_eth_dev_allocate().

Then, if we try to attach a port using rte_eth_dev_attach:

testpmd> port attach net_ring0
Attaching a new port...
PMD: Initializing pmd_ring for net_ring0
PMD: Creating rings-backed ethdev on numa socket 0

Two solutions:
- either update the last created port index to something invalid
  (when freeing a ethdev port),
- or rely on the port count, before and after the eal attach.

The latter solution seems (well not really more robust but at least)
less fragile than the former.
We still have some issues with drivers that create multiple ethdev
ports with a single probe operation, but this was already the case.

c59faf3fe8 net/i40e: support TSO on tunneling packet
To enable Tx side offload on tunneling packet, driver should set
correct tunneling parameters: (1) EIPT, External IP header type;
(2) EIPLEN, External IP; (3) L4TUNT; (4) L4TUNLEN. This parsing
behavior is based on (ol_flag & PKT_TX_TUNNEL_MASK). And when
it's a tunneling packet, MACLEN defines the outer L2 header.

Also, we define TSO on each kind of tunneling type as a capabilities.
Now only i40e declares to support them.

13a1317d3b pci: create device list and fallback on its members
Now that rte_device is available, drivers can start using its members

As of now no one is using this list, but can be used for moving over all

2f3193cf0f pci: inherit common driver in PCI driver
Remove the 'name' member from rte_pci_driver and move to generic
rte_driver.

Most of the PMD drivers were initially using DRIVER_REGISTER_PCI(<name>..)

In this patch, only the original DRIVER_REGISTER_PCI(<name>..) name has
been populated into the rte_driver.name member - assignments through

b0fb266855 ethdev: convert to EAL hotplug
Remove bus logic from ethdev hotplug by using eal for this.

Current api is preserved:
- the last port that has been created is tracked to return it to the
  application when attaching,
- the internal device name is reused when detaching.

We can not get rid of ethdev hotplug yet since we still need some
mechanism to inform applications of port creation/removal to substitute
for ethdev hotplug api.

dev_type field in struct rte_eth_dev and rte_eth_dev_allocate are kept as
is, but this information is not needed anymore and is removed in the
following commit.

Simplify crypto and ethdev pci drivers init by using newly introduced
init macros and helpers.
Those drivers then don't need to register as "rte_driver"s anymore.

Exceptions:
- virtio and mlx* use RTE_INIT directly as they have custom initialization

- VDEV devices are not modified - they continue to use PMD_REGISTER_DRIVER.

Note: the standard does not require implementations to issue a diagnostic

001a1c0f98 ethdev: get registers width
The ethtool app was allocating too little space for 64-bit
registers which resulted in memory corruption.

Removes hard-coded assumption that device registers
are always 32 bits wide. The rte_eth_dev_get_reg_length
and rte_eth_dev_get_reg_info callbacks did not
provide register size to the app in any way while is
needed to allocate correct number of bytes before
retrieving registers using rte_eth_dev_get_reg.

This commit changes rte_eth_dev_get_reg_info so that
it can be used to retrieve both the number of registers
and their width, and removes the now-redundant

bde516d5a8 ethdev: get port by name
Converted rte_eth_dev_get_port_by_name to a public API.
Converted rte_eth_dev_get_name_by_port to a public API.

The librte_pdump library provides the APIs to enable or disable the
packet capture either using the port id or pci address or device name.
So pdump library need to do a mapping from name to port and port to name
internally to validate the device name and register the Rx and Tx
callbacks for the mapped ports. So these APIs are made public for the
pdump library for doing the mentioned mappings.

Changes to API rte_eth_dev_info_get() are done to update these new fields

The librte_pdump library needs to register Rx and Tx callbacks for all

packets on all the software configured number of Rx and Tx queues of the
device. So far there is no support to get nb_rx_queues and nb_tx_queues

c8231c63dd ethdev: insert Rx callback as head of list
Added new public api rte_eth_add_first_rx_callback to add given

The librte_pdump library should display Rx packets of the
NIC even before they are being processed by other callbacks
of the application (because other callbacks of the application
may change the packet data as part of the processing).
So packet capturing framework should register a callback at the
head of the Rx callback list so that callback always gets called

is introduced.

4c50e2f6bf ethdev: refine API to query supported packet types
This change is to make user code simpler. For PMDs which do not fill any
packet types, return 0 instead of -ENOTSUP as suggested by Bruce.

Usually, users only care if the required (by ptype_mask) ptypes can be
filled by the specified PMD. If the PMD implements dev_supported_ptypes_get
func is not important. And the introduce of another return value (-ENOTSUP)
would increase the complexity of user programs to check it.

Besides, there are ways to know if a PMD implements the func:
  a. see doc/guides/nics/overview.rst.
  b. use (~1) as parameter ptype_mask, then check if return 0.

If a user calls rte_eth_xstats_get(portid, NULL, n) with n != 0,
it may result in a crash. Although the API documentation says that
n is the size of the table and xstats can be NULL if n == 0, we
can add an additional check here to make Coverity happy.

In that case, the return value is the same than when n == 0 is
passed, it returns the number of statistics.

In rte_eth_dev_configure(), device configuration was copied to the dev

d6c99e62c8 ethdev: add buffered Tx
Many sample apps include internal buffering for single-packet-at-a-time
operation. Since this is such a common paradigm, this functionality is
better suited to being implemented in the ethdev API.

The new APIs in the ethdev library are:
* rte_eth_tx_buffer_init - initialize buffer
* rte_eth_tx_buffer - buffer up a single packet for future transmission
* rte_eth_tx_buffer_flush - flush any unsent buffered packets
* rte_eth_tx_buffer_set_err_callback - set up a callback to be called in
case transmitting a buffered burst fails. By default, we just free the
  unsent packets.

As well as these, an additional reference callbacks are provided, which
frees the packets:

* rte_eth_tx_buffer_drop_callback - silently drop packets (default
  behavior)
* rte_eth_tx_buffer_count_callback - drop and update user-provided counter
to track the number of dropped packets

d5790b03b3 ethdev: fix link status race condition
Calling the Ethernet driver's link_update function from
rte_eth_dev_start can result in a race condition if the NIC raises
the link interrupt at the same time.
Depending on the interrupt handler implementation, the race can cause
the it to think that it received two consecutive link up interrupts,
and it exits without calling the user callback. Appears to impact
E1000/IGB and virtio drivers only.

6b6861c171 ethdev: check queue state before starting or stopping
Following the same approach taken with dev_started field
in rte_eth_dev_data structure, this patch adds two new fields
in it, rx_queue_state and tx_queue_state arrays, which track
which queues have been started and which not.

This is important to avoid trying to start/stop twice a queue,
which will result in undefined behaviour
(which may cause RX/TX disruption).

Mind that only the PMDs which have queue_start/stop functions
have been changed to update this field, as the functions will
check the queue state before switching it.

64b7acd861 ethdev: add multicast address filtering
With the current PMD API, the receipt of multicast packets on a given
port can only be enabled by invoking the "rte_eth_allmulticast_enable"
function.
This method may not work on Virtual Functions in SR-IOV architectures
when the host PF driver does not allow such operation on VFs.
In such cases, joined multicast addresses must be individually added
in the set of multicast addresses that are filtered by the [VF] port.

For this purpose, a new function "set_mc_addr_list" is introduced
into the set of functions that are exported by a Poll Mode Driver.

14b53e27b3 ethdev: fix crash with multiprocess
The data structure for the rx and tx callbacks is local to each process
since it contains function pointers and cannot be shared between
different unique binaries. However, because it is not in
rte_eth_dev_data structure, the array is not getting initialized for
secondary processes - neither is it getting appropriately resized if the
number of RX/TX queues changes. This causes crashes in secondary
processes as they dereference a null pointer in struct rte_eth_dev.

This patch fixes this by introducing an upper-bound on the number of
queues per port that can be configured, and then uses this to make the
array statically sized, thereby avoiding the crashes.

92d94d3744 ethdev: attach or detach port
These functions are used for attaching or detaching a port.
When rte_eth_dev_attach() is called, the function tries to realize the
device name as pci address. If this is done successfully,
rte_eth_dev_attach() will attach physical device port. If not, attaches
virtual devive port.
When rte_eth_dev_detach() is called, the function gets the device type

c974021a59 ether: add soft vlan encap/decap
It is helpful to allow device drivers that don't support hardware
VLAN stripping to emulate this in software. This allows application
to be device independent.

Avoid discarding shared mbufs. Make a copy in rte_vlan_insert() of any
packet to be tagged that has a reference count > 1.

a720aadd44 ethdev: return status of stats read
rte_eth_stats_get is to get physical device statistics. Without
return status, caller does not know whether function fails or not
(i.e. invalid port_id, driver has no stats_get callback). Caller
cannot differiente normal 0 stats or error case. This fix adds
a return status to the function.

99610782ed ethdev: update link status after start
Since LSR interrupt is disabled by pmd drivers, link status in rte_eth_device is always down.
Bond slave_configure() enables LSR interrupt on devices to get notification if link status
changes. However, the LSC interrupt at device start time is still lost.

In this fix, call link_update to read link status from hardware
register at device start time.

bb58239767 ethdev: add outer IP checksum capability flag
If the flag is advertised by a PMD, the NIC supports the outer IP

set the PKT_TX_OUTER_IP_CKSUM flag in mbufs when transmitting on this
port.

133b75923b mk: add library version extension
To differentiate libraries that break ABI, we add a library version number
suffix to the library, which must be incremented when a given libraries ABI is
broken. This patch enforces that addition, sets the initial abi soname
extension to 1 for each library and creates a symlink to the base SONAME so that
the test applications will link properly.
