ee653bd800 net/i40e: determine number of queues per VF at run time
Without this patch, the number of queues per i40e VF is set to 4
by CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_I40E_QUEUE_NUM_PER_VF=4 in config/common_base.
It is a fixed value determined at compile time and can't be changed
at run time.
With this patch, the number of queues per i40e VF can be determined
at run time. For example, if the PCI address of an i40e PF is
aaaa:bb.cc, with the EAL parameter -w aaaa:bb.cc,queue-num-per-vf=8,
the number of queues per VF created from this PF is set to 8.
If there is no "queue-num-per-vf" setting in EAL parameters, it uses
the default value of 4. And if the value after the "queue-num-per-vf"
is invalid, it will also use the default value. The valid values can
be 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16.

9e0b9d2ec0 gro: support VxLAN GRO
This patch adds a framework that allows GRO on tunneled packets.
Furthermore, it leverages that framework to provide GRO support for
VxLAN-encapsulated packets. Supported VxLAN packets must have an outer
IPv4 header, and contain an inner TCP/IPv4 packet.

VxLAN GRO doesn't check if input packets have correct checksums and
doesn't update checksums for output packets. Additionally, it assumes
the packets are complete (i.e., MF==0 && frag_off==0), when IP
fragmentation is possible (i.e., DF==0).

a4862c9e1a license: introduce SPDX identifiers
The DPDK uses the Open Source BSD-3-Clause license for the core libraries
and drivers. The kernel components are naturally GPLv2 licensed.

Many of the files in the DPDK source code contain the full text of the
applicable license. For example, most of the BSD-3-Clause files contain a
full copy of the BSD-3-Clause license text.

Including big blocks of License headers in all files blows up the source
code with mostly redundant information. An additional problem is that even
the same licenses are referred to by a number of slightly varying text
blocks (full, abbreviated, different indentation, line wrapping and/or
white space, with obsolete address information, ...) which makes validation
and automatic processing a nightmare.

To make this easier, DPDK uses of a single line reference to
Unique License Identifiers in source files as defined by the Linux
Foundation's SPDX project https://spdk.org.

Adding license information in this fashion, rather than adding full license
text, can be more efficient for developers; decreases errors; and improves
automated detection of licenses. The current set of valid, predefined SPDX
identifiers is set forth on the SPDX License List at
https://spdx.org/licenses/.

For example, to label a file as subject to the BSD-3-Clause license,
the following text would be used as the top line of the file.

SPDX-License-Identifier: BSD-3-Clause

Note: Any new file contributions in DPDK shall adhere to the above scheme.
It is also recommended to replace or at least amend the existing license
text in the code with SPDX-License-Identifiers.

Any exception to DPDK IP policies shall be approved by DPDK tech board and
DPDK Governing Board. Steps for any exception approval:
1. Mention the appropriate license identifier form SPDX. If the license is
not listed in SPDX Licenses. It is the submitters responsibiliity to get
   it first listed.
2. Get the required approval from the DPDK Technical Board. Technical board
may advise the author to check alternate means first. If no other
alternatives are found and the merit of the contributions are important
for DPDK's mission, it may decide on such exception with two-thirds vote
   of the members.
3. Technical board then approach Governing board for such limited approval
   for the given contribution only.

Any approvals shall be documented in "licenses/exceptions.txt" with record
dates.

Note: From the legal point of view, this patch is supposed to be only a
change to the textual representation of the license information, but in no
way any change to the actual license terms. With this patch applied, all
files will still be licensed under the same terms they were before.

8cfe3aaf34 doc: update mlx4 documentation
This updates mlx4 documentation and DPDK release notes
to reflect the PMD support for rdma-core from linux-rdma.

- PMD is now freed from Mellanox OFED and now only depends on the
public rdma-core package (v15 and above) instead.
  (see https://github.com/linux-rdma/rdma-core/releases)
This PMD should run under Linux v4.14 and above.
- In case any of the above requirements can't be satisfied,
Mellanox OFED v4.2 and above also provide an updated rdma-core
as well back-ported kernel modules for most Linux distributions
  and previous Linux versions.

DPDK_GETMAINTAINER_PATH should be full path to the get_maintainer.pl

Can be used individually:
./devtools/get-maintainer.sh <my.patch>

Or via git send-email, to add maintainers automatically:
git send-email --to-cmd ./devtools/get-maintainer.sh \

289ba0c0f5 ethdev: allow returning error on VLAN offload ops
Some devices may not support or fail setting VLAN offload
configuration based on dynamic circumstances so the
vlan_offload_set_t vector is modified to return an int so
the caller can determine success or not.

rte_eth_dev_set_vlan_offload is updated to return the
value provided by the vector when called along with restoring
the original offload configs on failure.

Existing vlan_offload_set_t vectors are modified to return
an int. Majority of cases return 0 but a few that actually
can fail now return their failure codes.

Finally, a vlan_offload_set_t vector is added to virtio
to facilitate dynamically turning VLAN strip on or off.

fb870be5a8 net/mlx5: fix Tx doorbell memory barrier
Configuring UAR as IO-mapped makes maximum throughput decline by
noticeable amount. If UAR is configured as write-combining register,
a write memory barrier is needed on ringing a doorbell.

rte_wmb() is mostly effective when the size of a burst is comparatively
small. Revert the register back to write-combining and enforce a write
memory barrier instead, except for vectorized Tx burst routines.
Application can change it by setting MLX5_SHUT_UP_BF under its own

380a7aab1a mbuf: rename deprecated VLAN flags
PKT_RX_VLAN_PKT and PKT_RX_QINQ_PKT are deprecated for a while.
As explained in [1], these flags were kept to let the applications and
PMDs move to the new flag. There is also a need to support Rx vlan
offload without vlan strip (at least for the ixgbe driver).

This patch renames the old flags for this feature, knowing that some
PMDs were using PKT_RX_VLAN_PKT and PKT_RX_QINQ_PKT to indicate that
the vlan tci has been saved in the mbuf structure.

It is likely that some PMDs do not set the proper flags when doing vlan
offload, and it would be worth making a pass on all of them.

078b8b452e net/mlx4: add RSS flow rule action support
This patch dissociates single-queue indirection tables and hash QP objects
from Rx queue structures to relinquish their control to users through the
RSS flow rule action, while simultaneously allowing multiple queues to be
associated with RSS contexts.

Flow rules share identical RSS contexts (hashed fields, hash key, target
queues) to save on memory and other resources. The trade-off is some added
complexity due to reference counters management on RSS contexts.

The QUEUE action is re-implemented on top of an automatically-generated
single-queue RSS context.

The following hardware limitations apply to RSS contexts:

- The number of queues in a group must be a power of two.
- Queue indices must be consecutive, for instance the [0 1 2 3] set is
  allowed, however [3 2 1 0], [0 2 1 3] and [0 0 1 1 2 3 3 3] are not.
- The first queue of a group must be aligned to a multiple of the context
  size, e.g. if queues [0 1 2 3 4] are defined globally, allowed group
  combinations are [0 1] and [2 3]; groups [1 2] and [3 4] are not
  supported.
- RSS hash key, while configurable per context, must be exactly 40 bytes
  long.
- The only supported hash algorithm is Toeplitz.

30695adbdd net/mlx4: add VLAN filter configuration support
This commit brings back VLAN filter configuration support without any
artificial limitation on the number of simultaneous VLANs that can be
configured (previously 127).

Also thanks to the fact it does not rely on fixed per-queue arrays for
potential Verbs flow handle storage anymore, this version wastes a lot less
memory (previously 128 * 127 * pointer size, i.e. 130 kiB per Rx queue,
only one of which actually had any use for this room: the RSS parent
queue).

The number of internal flow rules generated still depends on the number of
configured MAC addresses times that of configured VLAN filters though.

It works by first benchmarking crypto operation alloc-build-free
loop (no enqueues/dequeues happening), and then benchmarking
enqueue and dequeue separately, by first completely filling up the
TX queue, and then completely draining the RX queue.

Results are shown as cycle counts per alloc/build/free, PMD enqueue
and PMD dequeue.

One new test mode is added: "pmd-cyclecount"
  (called with --ptest=pmd-cyclecount)

New command-line argument is also added:
  --pmd-cyclecount-delay-ms: this is a pmd-cyclecount-specific parameter
that controls the delay between enqueue and dequeue. This is
useful for benchmarking hardware acceleration, as hardware may
not be able to keep up with enqueued packets. This parameter
can be increased if there are large amounts of dequeue
      retries.

To avoid crypto operations sitting in the TX ring indefinitely,

d5b0924ba6 ethdev: add return value to stats get dev op
The stats_get dev op API doesn't include return value, so PMD cannot
return an error in case of failure at stats getting process time.

Since PCI devices can be removed and there is a time between the

without any indication.

This patch changes the stats_get API return value to be int instead of
void.

5b590fbe09 app/testpmd: add traffic management forwarding mode
This commit extends the testpmd application with new forwarding engine
that demonstrates the use of ethdev traffic management APIs and softnic
PMD for QoS traffic management.

In this mode, 5-level hierarchical tree of the QoS scheduler is built
with the help of ethdev TM APIs such as shaper profile add/delete,
shared shaper add/update, node add/delete, hierarchy commit, etc.
The hierarchical tree has following nodes; root node(x1, level 0),
subport node(x1, level 1), pipe node(x4096, level 2),
tc node(x16348, level 3), queue node(x65536, level 4).

During runtime, each received packet is first classified by mapping the
packet fields information to 5-tuples (HQoS subport, pipe, traffic class,
queue within traffic class, and color) and storing it in the packet mbuf
sched field. After classification, each packet is sent to softnic port
which prioritizes the transmission of the received packets, and
accordingly sends them on to the output interface.

To enable traffic management mode, following testpmd command is used;

$ ./testpmd -c c -n 4 --vdev
	'net_softnic0,hard_name=0000:06:00.1,soft_tm=on' -- -i

70e737e448 gso: support GRE GSO
This patch adds GSO support for GRE-tunneled packets. Supported GRE
packets must contain an outer IPv4 header, and inner TCP/IPv4 headers.
They may also contain a single VLAN tag. GRE GSO doesn't check if all
input packets have correct checksums and doesn't update checksums for
output packets. Additionally, it doesn't process IP fragmented packets.

As with VxLAN GSO, GRE GSO uses a two-segment MBUF to organize each
output packet, which requires multi-segment mbuf support in the TX
functions of the NIC driver. Also, if a packet is GSOed, GRE GSO reduces
its MBUF refcnt by 1. As a result, when all of its GSOed segments are
freed, the packet is freed automatically.
