6affeabaf3 net/mlx: add static ibverbs linkage with meson
The libibverbs (and libmlx4/5) can be statically embedded
in the shared PMD library, or in the application with the static PMD.
It was supported with make build system in
commit 2c0dd7b69f ("config: add static linkage of mlx dependency").

The same feature is enabled with meson when using pkg-config
(i.e. only if the call to dependency() is successful).
The fallback method for searching library with cc.find_library()
is not supported because the dependencies of the found library
would not be linked (no such info in .a file unlike .so).

The main difference, in meson build system, is the generated .pc file
giving arguments to link DPDK with the application.
Unfortunately the .pc file will not keep memory of the static linkage
option for libibverbs.

using portmask. With portmask, we can use only

 - Using portmask (-p [0x]nnn): mask must be in hex format
 - Using portlist in the following format

00f75a4057 net/mlx5: fix VLAN match for DV mode
Currently MLX5 PMD can't match on untagged packets specifically.
Tagged traffic still hits the flows intended for untagged packets.
If the flow has ETH, it will catch all matching packets, tagged
and untagged.
The solution is to use cvlan_tag bit.
If mask=1 and value=0 it matches on untagged traffic.
If mask=1 and value=1 it matches on tagged traffic.
This is the kernel implementation.

This patch updated MLX5 PMD to set cvlan_tag mask and value according
to flow rule contents.
This update is relevant when using DV flow engine (dv_flow_en=1).

See example at https://doc.dpdk.org/guides/nics/mlx5.html#limitations.

b4bf22d173 net/octeontx2: change default RSS hash calculation
Before C0 HW revision, The RSS adder was computed based the following
static formula.

rss_adder<7:0> = flow_tag<7:0> ^ flow_tag<15:8> ^
flow_tag<23:16> ^ flow_tag<31:24>

The above scheme has the following drawbacks:
1) It is not in line with other standard NIC behavior.
2) There can be an SW use case where SW can compute the hash
upfront using Toeplitz function and predict the queue selection
to optimize some packet lookup function. The nonstandard
way of doing XOR makes the consumer to not predict the queue selection.

C0 HW revision onward, The HW can configure the
rss_adder<7:0> as flow_tag<7:0> to align with standard NICs.

This patch adds an option to select legacy RSS adder mode
using tag_as_xor=1 devargs option while keeping the standard NIC
behavior as default.

777014e56d devtools: add ABI checks
For normal developers, those checks are disabled.

Enabling them requires a configuration that will trigger the ABI dumps
generation as part of the existing devtools/test-build.sh and
devtools/test-meson-builds.sh scripts.

Those checks are enabled in the CI for the default meson options on x86
and aarch64 so that proposed patches are validated via our CI robot.
A cache of the ABI is stored in travis jobs to avoid rebuilding too
often.

Checks can be informational only, by setting ABI_CHECKS_WARN_ONLY when
breaking the ABI in a future release.

Explicit suppression rules have been added on internal structures
exposed to crypto drivers as the current ABI policy does not apply to
them.
This could be improved in the future by carefully splitting the headers
content with application and driver "users" in mind.

We currently have issues reported for librte_crypto recent changes for
which suppression rules have been added too.

Mellanox glue libraries are explicitly skipped as they are not part of
the application ABI.

3f2d6766e3 mempool: remove memory wastage on non-x86
The existing optimize_object_size() function address the memory object
alignment constraint on x86 for better performance.

Different (micro) architecture may have different memory alignment
constraint for better performance and it not the same as the existing
optimize_object_size().

Some use, XOR(kind of CRC) scheme to enable DRAM channel distribution
based on the address and some may have a different formula.

Introducing arch_mem_object_align() function to abstract
the difference between different (micro) architectures to avoid
wasting memory for mempool object alignment for the architecture
that it is not required to do so.

Details on the amount of memory saving:

Currently, arm64 based architectures use the default (nchan=4,
nrank=1). The worst case is for an object whose size (including mempool
header) is 2 cache lines, where it is optimized to 3 cache lines (+50%).

Examples for cache lines size = 64:
  orig optimized
  64    -> 64           +0%
  128   -> 192          +50%
  192   -> 192          +0%
  256   -> 320          +25%
  320   -> 320          +0%
  384   -> 448          +16%
  ...
  2304  -> 2368         +2.7%  (~mbuf size)

b57b66a97e app/testpmd: support mbuf dynamic flag
DPDK now supports registration of dynamic flags (dynf) to the mbuf.
dynf can be given any name, and can be used with a supporting PMD or
supporting application.

Due to the generic concept of the dynf, it is impossible and
meaningless, to define register set/get function for each flag.
This commit introduce a generic way to register and set/clear such
flags.

The basic syntax:
port config <port id> dynf <name> <set|clear>

The first step the new flag is registered. Regardless if the action is
set or clear.
There is no way to unregister the flag, after registering it.

The second step, if the action is set then we set the requested flag.
If this is the first flag that is enabled we also register a call back
for the Tx. In this call back we set the flag.
If the action is clear the requested flag is cleared, and if there
are no more flags that are set, the call back is removed.

The reason that the set is only applied in Tx is that in case of Rx
it is assumed that the value comes from the PMD.

If log is enabled the name of the flag, and value will be printed
in the packet info.
In order for the log to work correctly the registration of the flag
must be done before setting verbose.

eab2177671 net/hns3: support setting VF MAC address by PF driver
Currently, we only support VF device is bound to vfio_pci or igb_uio and
then driven by DPDK driver when PF is driven by kernel mode hns3 ethdev
driver, VF is not supported when PF is driven by hns3 DPDK driver.

This patch adds support setting VF MAC address by hns3 PF kernel ethdev
driver on the host by "ip link set ..." command.
1) If the hns3 PF kernel ethdev driver sets the MAC address for VF
device before the initialization of the related VF device, hns3 VF
PMD driver should get the MAC address from PF driver through mailbox
and configure hardware using this MAC address in the initialization.
The hns3 VF PMD driver get the MAC address form PF driver, if
obtaining a non-zero MAC address from mailbox, VF driver will
configure hardware using it, otherwise using a random MAC address in
   the initialization of VF device.
2) If the hns3 PF kernel ethdev driver sets the MAC address for VF
device after the initialization of the related VF device, the PF
driver will notify VF driver to reset VF device to make the new MAC
address effective immediately. The hns3 VF PMD driver should check
whether the MAC address has been changed by the PF kernel netdevice
driver, if changed VF driver should configure hardware using the new
MAC address in the recovering hardware configuration stage of the
   reset process.
3) When user has configured a mac address for VF device by "ip link set
..." command based on the PF device, the hns3 PF kernel ethdev driver
does not allow VF driver to request reconfiguring a different default
mac address and return -EPREM to VF driver through mailbox.

f5ab2074cf doc: rebuild with meson whenever a file changes
Add proper support for calling sphinx whenever a file in the doc
directory changes. This is accomplished by using a wrapper script

file listing all the doc files. This is used by ninja so that any
change to the doc files triggers a rebuild of the docs.

b1e1bd379a doc: fix warning with meson
The install parameter to configure_file is new in 0.50 and generates a
warning since it is newer than our minimum version of 0.47.1. The
parameter, however, is unneeded as the documentation states:

"When omitted it defaults to true when install_dir is set and not empty,
false otherwise."

Given that install_dir is not set for this file, install defaults to false
so no need to explicitly specify it.

f6412d7528 doc: update system requirements in Linux guide
Update the system requirements section of the doc to cover builds with
meson and ninja. This involves updating the package dependencies to include
meson, ninja and python 3.5, and also updating the optional dependencies
section to explain that the components are enabled/disabled automatically
by meson.

As part of this update, the relevant sections were simplified to keep the
document shorter. For mandatory requirements, we can refer to the various
distro's development tools package groups rather than requiring gcc, core
tools etc. individually. The optional package list was very incomplete, and
if complete would duplicate information in the individual driver's guides.
Therefore we can simplify it by listing only the library optional
requirements and referring users to the driver docs to find details on
their dependencies.

aa75995509 devtools: control location of test builds

number of build directories being present when testing patches. This

variable to control where the build outputs are put.

For example, doing:

            x86_64-native-linux-clang+shared i686-native-linux-gcc

d965af9e8a kni: increase kernel version requirement for VA
A build error reported related to the selected 'get_user_pages_remote()'

.../kernel/linux/kni/kni_dev.h:113:8:
error: too few arguments to function ‘get_user_pages_remote’
  ret = get_user_pages_remote(tsk, tsk->mm, iova, 1
        ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Currently there are three versions of the 'get_user_pages_remote()'
supported, based on kernel version < 4.9, = 4.9, > 4.9.

These version based checks are not working fine with the distro kernels
which is the cause of reported build error. The error reported by the
kernel version 4.8, but it is using API defined in > 4.9.

To be able to take control of this, and possible more, related build
error, increasing the minimum supported kernel version for iova=va with
KNI to kernel version 4.9.

This leaves us with single version of the kernel API and more manageable.

cba806e07d build: change ABI versioning to global
As per new ABI policy [1], all of the libraries are now versioned using
one global ABI version. Stable libraries use the MAJOR.MINOR ABI
version for their shared objects, while experimental libraries
use the 0.MAJORMINOR convention for their versioning.
Experimental library versioning is managed globally. Changes in this
patch implement the necessary steps to enable that.

The CONFIG_RTE_MAJOR_ABI option was introduced to permit multiple
DPDK versions installed side by side. The problem is now addressed
through the new ABI policy, and thus can be removed.

[David] For external libraries relying on Makefile, LIBABIVER is
preserved to avoid using DPDK global ABI version.

f078ceb6ae net/mlx5: fix Tx doorbell write memory barrier
As the result of testing it was found that some hosts have
the performance penalty imposed by required write memory barrier
after doorbell writing. Before 19.08 release there was some
heuristics to decide whether write memory barrier should be
performed. For the bursts of recommended size (or multiple)
it was supposed there were some extra ongoing packets in the
next burst and write memory barrier may be skipped (supposed
to be performed in the next burst, at least after descriptor
writing).

This patch restores that behaviour, the devargs tx_db_nc=2
must be specified to engage this performance tuning feature.

a0dede62a5 eal/linux: remove KNI restriction on IOVA
Now that KNI supports VA (with kernel versions starting 4.6.0), we can
accept IOVA as VA, but KNI must be configured for this.

So far, IOVA detection policy forced IOVA as PA when KNI is loaded,

We can now use IOVA as VA, but this comes with a cost in KNI.
When no constraint is expressed by the buses, keep the current behavior
of choosing PA.

efc1b2799f net/ice: optimize protocol extraction by dynamic mbuf
The original design is to use rte_mbuf::udata64 to save the metadata of
protocol extraction which has network protocol data fields and type, a
private API is used to decode this metadata.

Use the dynamic mbuf field and flags to register the needed fields in
mbuf, to avoid overwriting 'rte_mbuf::udata64', since the application
may use it. Now the protocol extraction metadate is saved into dynamic
mbuf field with 4B size, and its type and validity is indicated by the
related dynamic mbuf flags in 'rte_mbuf::ol_flags'.

8409a28573 net/mlx5: control transmit doorbell register mapping
The rdma core library can map doorbell register in two ways,
depending on the environment variable "MLX5_SHUT_UP_BF":

  - as regular cached memory, the variable is either missing or
set to zero. This type of mapping may cause the significant
doorbell register writing latency and requires explicit
memory write barrier to mitigate this issue and prevent
    write combining.

  - as non-cached memory, the variable is present and set to
not "0" value. This type of mapping may cause performance
impact under heavy loading conditions but the explicit write
memory barrier is not required and it may improve core
    performance.

The new devarg is introduced "tx_db_nc", if this parameter is
set to zero, the doorbell register is forced to be mapped to
cached memory and requires explicit memory barrier after
writing to. If "tx_db_nc" is set to non-zero value the doorbell
will be mapped as non-cached memory, not requiring the memory
barrier. If "tx_db_nc" is missing the behaviour will be defined
by presence of "MLX5_SHUT_UP_BF" in environment. If variable
is missed the default value zero will be set for ARM64 hosts
and one for others.

In run time the code checks the mapping type and provides the
memory barrier after writing to tx doorbell register if it is
needed. The mapping type is extracted directly from the
uar_mmap_offset field in the queue properties.

2d241515eb net/mlx5: add devarg for extensive metadata support
The PMD parameter dv_xmeta_en is added to control extensive
metadata support. A nonzero value enables extensive flow
metadata support if device is capable and driver supports it.
This can enable extensive support of MARK and META item of
rte_flow. The newly introduced SET_TAG and SET_META actions
do not depend on dv_xmeta_en parameter, because there is
no compatibility issue for new entities. The dv_xmeta_en is
disabled by default.

There are some possible configurations, depending on parameter
value:

- 0, this is default value, defines the legacy mode, the MARK
and META related actions and items operate only within NIC Tx
and NIC Rx steering domains, no MARK and META information
crosses the domain boundaries. The MARK item is 24 bits wide,
the META item is 32 bits wide.

- 1, this engages extensive metadata mode, the MARK and META
related actions and items operate within all supported steering
domains, including FDB, MARK and META information may cross
the domain boundaries. The ``MARK`` item is 24 bits wide, the
META item width depends on kernel and firmware configurations
and might be 0, 16 or 32 bits. Within NIC Tx domain META data
width is 32 bits for compatibility, the actual width of data
transferred to the FDB domain depends on kernel configuration
and may be vary. The actual supported width can be retrieved
in runtime by series of rte_flow_validate() trials.

- 2, this engages extensive metadata mode, the MARK and META
related actions and items operate within all supported steering
domains, including FDB, MARK and META information may cross
the domain boundaries. The META item is 32 bits wide, the MARK
item width depends on kernel and firmware configurations and
might be 0, 16 or 24 bits. The actual supported width can be
retrieved in runtime by series of rte_flow_validate() trials.

If there is no E-Switch configuration the ``dv_xmeta_en`` parameter is
ignored and the device is configured to operate in legacy mode (0).

9bf26e1318 ethdev: move egress metadata to dynamic field
The dynamic mbuf fields were introduced by [1]. The egress metadata is
good candidate to be moved from statically allocated field tx_metadata to
dynamic one. Because mbufs are used in half-duplex fashion only, it is
safe to share this dynamic field with ingress metadata.

The shared dynamic field contains either egress (if application going to
transmit mbuf with tx_burst) or ingress (if mbuf is received with rx_burst)
metadata and can be accessed by RTE_FLOW_DYNF_METADATA() macro or with
rte_flow_dynf_metadata_set() and rte_flow_dynf_metadata_get() helper
routines. PKT_TX_DYNF_METADATA/PKT_RX_DYNF_METADATA flag will be set
along with the data.

The mbuf dynamic field must be registered by calling
rte_flow_dynf_metadata_register() prior accessing the data.

The availability of dynamic mbuf metadata field can be checked with
rte_flow_dynf_metadata_avail() routine.

DEV_TX_OFFLOAD_MATCH_METADATA offload and configuration flag is removed.
The metadata support in PMDs is engaged on dynamic field registration.

Metadata feature is getting complex. We might have some set of actions
and items that might be supported by PMDs in multiple combinations,
the supported values and masks are the subjects to query by perfroming
trials (with rte_flow_validate).

e02ecc1324 ethdev: extend flow metadata
Currently, metadata can be set on egress path via mbuf tx_metadata field
with PKT_TX_METADATA flag and RTE_FLOW_ITEM_TYPE_META matches metadata.

This patch extends the metadata feature usability.

1) RTE_FLOW_ACTION_TYPE_SET_META

When supporting multiple tables, Tx metadata can also be set by a rule and
matched by another rule. This new action allows metadata to be set as a
result of flow match.

2) Metadata on ingress

There's also need to support metadata on ingress. Metadata can be set by
SET_META action and matched by META item like Tx. The final value set by
the action will be delivered to application via metadata dynamic field of
mbuf which can be accessed by RTE_FLOW_DYNF_METADATA() macro or with
rte_flow_dynf_metadata_set() and rte_flow_dynf_metadata_get() helper
routines. PKT_RX_DYNF_METADATA flag will be set along with the data.

The mbuf dynamic field must be registered by calling
rte_flow_dynf_metadata_register() prior to use SET_META action.

The availability of dynamic mbuf metadata field can be checked
with rte_flow_dynf_metadata_avail() routine.

If application is going to engage the metadata feature it registers
the metadata dynamic fields, then PMD checks the metadata field
availability and handles the appropriate fields in datapath.

For loopback/hairpin packet, metadata set on Rx/Tx may or may not be
propagated to the other path depending on hardware capability.

MARK and METADATA look similar and might operate in similar way,
but not interacting.

Initially, there were proposed two metadata related actions:

- RTE_FLOW_ACTION_TYPE_FLAG
- RTE_FLOW_ACTION_TYPE_MARK

These actions set the special flag in the packet metadata, MARK action
stores some specified value in the metadata storage, and, on the packet
receiving PMD puts the flag and value to the mbuf and applications can
see the packet was threated inside flow engine according to the appropriate
RTE flow(s). MARK and FLAG are like some kind of gateway to transfer some
per-packet information from the flow engine to the application via
receiving datapath. Also, there is the item of type RTE_FLOW_ITEM_TYPE_MARK
provided. It allows us to extend the flow match pattern with the capability
to match the metadata values set by MARK/FLAG actions on other flows.

From the datapath point of view, the MARK and FLAG are related to the
receiving side only. It would useful to have the same gateway on the
transmitting side and there was the feature of type RTE_FLOW_ITEM_TYPE_META
was proposed. The application can fill the field in mbuf and this value
will be transferred to some field in the packet metadata inside the flow
engine. It did not matter whether these metadata fields are shared because
of MARK and META items belonged to different domains (receiving and
transmitting) and could be vendor-specific.

So far, so good, DPDK proposes some entities to control metadata inside
the flow engine and gateways to exchange these values on a per-packet basis
via datapaths.

As we can see, the MARK and META means are not symmetric, there is absent
action which would allow us to set META value on the transmitting path.
So, the action of type:

- RTE_FLOW_ACTION_TYPE_SET_META was proposed.

The next, applications raise the new requirements for packet metadata.
The flow ngines are getting more complex, internal switches are introduced,
multiple ports might be supported within the same flow engine namespace.
From the DPDK points of view, it means the packets might be sent on one
eth_dev port and received on the other one, and the packet path inside
the flow engine entirely belongs to the same hardware device. The simplest
example is SR-IOV with PF, VFs and the representors. And there is a
brilliant opportunity to provide some out-of-band channel to transfer
some extra data from one port to another one, besides the packet data
itself. And applications would like to use this opportunity.

It is supposed for application to use trials (with rte_flow_validate)
to detect which metadata features (FLAG, MARK, META) actually supported
by PMD and underlying hardware. It might depend on PMD configuration,
system software, hardware settings, etc., and should be detected
in run time.

9a2f44c762 ethdev: add flow tag
A tag is a transient data which can be used during flow match. This can be
used to store match result from a previous table so that the same pattern
need not be matched again on the next table. Even if outer header is
decapsulated on the previous match, the match result can be kept.

Some device expose internal registers of its flow processing pipeline and
those registers are quite useful for stateful connection tracking as it
keeps status of flow matching. Multiple tags are supported by specifying
index.

Example testpmd commands are:

flow create 0 ingress pattern ... / end
    actions set_tag index 2 value 0xaa00bb mask 0xffff00ff /
            set_tag index 3 value 0x123456 mask 0xffffff /

            set_tag index 3 value 0x123456 mask 0xffffff /

flow create 0 ingress group 1

2ed50762bd ethdev: remove deprecated port count function
The function rte_eth_dev_count() was marked as deprecated in DPDK 18.05
in commit d9a42a69fe ("ethdev: deprecate port count function").
It was planned to be removed after 19.11 LTS release,
but given we must not break ABI between 19.11 and 20.11,
it is removed now.

Note the ABI version is not dumped in this commit
because other changes already did.

1f7250dfd1 doc: disable dot graph in doxygen
Ubuntu ships with a patched version of doxygen that enables
HAVE_DOT (disabled by default). Enabling this option causes the warning:
"""
warning: Included by graph for 'rte_common.h' not generated,
too many nodes. Consider increasing DOT_GRAPH_MAX_NODES
"""
This reproduces with doxygen version 1.8.13 and
dot - graphviz version 2.40.1 on Ubuntu 18.04.

This will force doxygen not to assume that dot (part of Graphviz)
is installed, and will result in dot not being used for visualization.

If someone still needs to generate the graphs, the following can
be considered:
- Increase DOT_GRAPH_MAX_NODES to a large value.
- Set HAVE_DOT for more powerful graphs.
- Set DOT_IMAGE_FORMAT=svg to generate svg images.
- Set INTERACTIVE_SVG=YES to allow zooming and panning.
